UNDATED _ Max Lucado’s best-selling book”Just Like Jesus”(Word Publishing) has been named the Christian book of the year by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.

That honor was announced on the eve of the recent annual meeting of the CBA, an international organization of Christian retailers.

The CBA, formerly known as the Christian Booksellers Association, inducted Prison Fellowship founder Chuck Colson and musician Kurt Kaiser into its Hall of Honor during its meeting, which ended Thursday (July 15). Author Janette Oke received a Life Impact Award from CBA.

Both organizations _ which have expanded as the Christian retailing industry has become a booming $3 billion business _ are celebrating major anniversaries. The CBA turns 50 years old this year while the ECPA was founded 25 years ago.”With a 50-year legacy of God’s faithfulness and the current trend of dynamic growth, we’re looking toward a future with tremendous opportunities for exponential growth and global impact,”the CBA stated at the close of its convention, which drew more than 14,000 people to Orlando, Fla.

Lucado was honored with the Charles “Kip” Jordon Christian Book of the Year Award on July 10, the third time he was so honored.

The ECPA also presented Hugh Barbour, founder of Barbour Publishing, with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Bill Reynolds, a longtime Bible salesman based in Northridge, Calif., with a chairman’s award.

Winners of the Gold Medallion Book Awards, which ECPA presents based on votes by Christian retailers, were chosen from 581 book entries by close to 200 judges.
