Pa. Jews for Obama

Print More

A letter making the case for Obama, taking particular pains to defend his handling of the Wright affair. The signatories include some rabbis, politicians, and professors, but Ami Eden of the JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) points out that the biggest shots in Pennsylvania Jewry are backing Clinton–and promises that they will be heard from shortly.

From the few names familiar to me amongst academics and rabbis, it seems to be top heavy with Reconstructionists, which have a disproportionate standing in PA Jewy (since their rabbinical seminary is located in Philadelphia), but who usually show up as statiscally insignificant, or “Other,” in national Jewish polling data when American Jews are asked about denominational affiliation. In other words – this letter ain’t how Jews will vote on April 22.
