Former Army Chaplain (Capt.) James Yee, who was honorably discharged after being cleared of espionage charges has a new role: pledged delegate to the Democratic National Convention for Sen. Barack Obama.

“I came out and basically reiterated that Sen. Obama is really the only candidate that consistently campaigns on rejecting torture without exception, on closing Guantanamo Bay, restoring habeas (corpus) and adhering to the Geneva Conventions,” he told The Olympian newspaper in Washington state on Monday.

Yee, who served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, said on a YouTube video announcing his delegate status, that he objected to torture faced by Guantanamo detainees and was himself subjected to “the frightening tactic of sensory depravation” when he was held in a military brig.

Now a resident of Olympia, Yee was discharged in 2005 and published the book “For God and County” in the same year.
