With the news today that Pope Benedict XVI has decreed a second miracle attributable to Fr. Damien, Hawaii cleared its last major obstacle to acquiring a full-fledged patron saint.

Hard to believe that the Vatican was giving any thought to U.S. politics in this regard, yet a certain presidential candidate from the Aloha State must find the news at least mildly auspicious.
