PAUL, Minn.-Months of lackluster support among many evangelical voters for Republican presidential candidate John McCain have exploded into evangelical zeal for the GOP ticket now that McCain’s running mate is Alaska’s anti-abortion Gov. Sarah Palin. “They will rally to the banner now,” said Rep. Doug Lamborn, a Republican from Colorado Springs, Colo., an evangelical epicenter. “It reassures people that John McCain is listening to conservatives.” Observers cite McCain’s choice of Palin and his appearance last month at a California megachurch as reassurances that cemented their support.
