As the Oregonian’s Nancy Haught reports, 59 bishops from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, as well as five from Canada, are in the Middle East to meet Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian leaders. The trip had been in the works since 2005, but has taken on new challenges and poignancy with the ongoing battle between Israel and Hamas.

The Rev. Dave Brauer-Rieke, bishop of the Oregon Synod of the ELCA, began blogging from Jerusalem today.
