At the risk of seeming like the only issue we care about is gay marriage … this one was too good to pass up.
Yesterday we brought you the doomsday ad from the National Coalition for Marriage that warned of a “gathering storm” of gay marriage against a backdrop of ominous clouds, thunder and lightning. Now gay groups have dug up the audition tapes of the actors trying out to play the part of aggrieved Christians in New Jersey, Massachusetts and elsewhere. Or, as Andrew Sullivan put it, “auditioning for victimhood.”
If you can get through all the screaming and shouting, NOM’s Maggie Gallagher and HRC’s Joe Solmonese duked it out on Hardball. Gallagher says the ad clearly states that “the stories these actors are telling are based on real incidents.” Which I suppose is true, but as Sullivan says, “They couldn’t find any actual victims of pink fascism?”
Meanwhile, in other gay marriage news, California megachurch pastor Rick Warren has touched off yet another controversy over his role (or not) in last year’s Prop 8 fight that outlawed gay marriage. On Monday, he told CNN’s Larry King that “I am not an anti-gay, or anti-gay marriage activist. … never once went to a meeting, never made a statement” :
Gay groups are saying “not so fast,” and they’ve got the footage to prove it:
