Associated Church Press honors religion publications

INDIANAPOLIS (RNS) The Christian Chronicle, U.S. Catholic magazine and Sojourners magazine all received top honors from the Associated Church Press in awards that were presented Thursday (May 7).

The Christian Chronicle won the “Best in Class” category for national newspapers, followed by The Mennonite Weekly Review and United Church News. U.S. Catholic won best denominational magazine, followed by DisciplesWorld and Alliance Life.

Sojourners continued its winning streak for best general interest magazine, followed by Alive Now and The Progressive Christian. Baptist Press took home the best wire service award, followed by Religion News Service and (tied for third place), ELCA News Service and Presbyterian News Service.


The Florida-based umbrella group for mainline Protestant, Catholic and evangelical publications awarded prizes in more than 60 categories. Other Best in Class winners included:

— Regional newspaper: The Alabama Baptist, followed by The Florida Catholic and (tied for third place) The Catholic Sun and Word & Way.

— Special interest magazine: A Common Place, followed by Weavings and Geez.

— Journal: Touchstone, followed by Reflections and The Cresset.

— Newsletter: Nuestra Parroquia, followed by Crossing Points and At Home with Our Faith.

— Independent Web site or e-zine: Caf, followed by Prepare the Word. There was no third-place winner.
