PBS is mulling whether it will cut ties with any of its public television stations that carry religious programs, The Washington Post reports.

If the Public Broadcasting Service board votes next month to ban such programming on related stations, those that carry programs such as a broadcast of a Catholic Mass would be cut loose and unable to carry programs ranging from “Frontline” to “Sesame Street.”

WHUT, a Washington station, has already warned the Archdiocese of Washington that it will cancel “Mass for Shut-Ins,” a weekly program produced by the archdiocese, if the PBS board votes for the strict ban.

Susan Gibbs, spokeswoman for the archdiocese, told The Post: “You’d think public television would be about engaging the community.”

PBS spokeswoman Jan McNamara wouldn’t give the Post a specific comment but said: “We’re still gathering feedback from our members to see where they stand.”
