Even though New York’s City Council passed a resolution asking the Education Department to observe two Muslim holidays, Mayor Michael Bloomberg isn’t having it.
“Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city is too diverse for schools to observe every holiday.”
There might be more Muslim students than you think, though. The AP story cites a 2008 study which estimates at least 10 percent of NYC’s 1.1 million students are Muslim.
