Newsweek’s got a list up of “50 Books of Our Times.” You won’t find many of the usual suspects (“The Great Gatsby,” et alia) but you will find nine books with significant religious content, by my count.

First, Newsweek’s explanation for why they drew up yet another list: “what we … need in a world with precious little time to read (and think), is to know which books-new or old, fiction or nonfiction-open a window on the times we live in, whether they deal directly with the issues of today or simply help us see ourselves in new and surprising ways.”

The nine religion-tinged books are:

“The Looming Tower”

“God: A Biography”

“A Good Man is Hard to Find”

“Underground”

“Guests of the Ayatollah”

“Whittaker Chambers”

“The Lost”

“Gilead”

“Walking with the Wind.”
