Sojourners honcho Jim Wallis is not one to mince words. He’s known to liberally quote the Hebrew prophets, and, like those prophets, Wallis is not afraid to deliver a tongue lashing now and then.

Still, the progressive pooh-bah used some especially strong language to criticize Sarah Palin’s recent comments on health care reform.

If you haven’t heard, Palin said this: “The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.”

Wallis called that statement a “new low for our political discourse,” then lays into Palin: “Politics for people like you is really all about you, your fame and power, and your taste of it during the last election has revealed what kind of politician you truly are.

Please don’t invoke your “Christian faith” anymore and embarrass the people of God even further. May your efforts to scare Americans during this important debate fail. May your political future also fail, and may your star fall as fast as it rose just a few months ago – because we now know who you really are.”

ouch.

By the way, Palin’s claim about a “death panel” has been throughouly debunked by just about everyone.
