I will be the first to admit that I normally don’t spend much time trolling through online comments that are attached to news stories or blogs, but sometimes they can get downright hilarious.

Such was the case over at dotCommonweal, when our quote of the day provided endless entertainment (and consternation) for our pal David Gibson and some reader identified only as “Kathy.” Beyond not being able to get a joke, “Kathy” seems to have some kind of axe to grind with RNS, but I have no idea who she is. Kathy, if you’re reading this, please give us a shout so we can settle our differences. Over a martini.

If you have a few minutes, it’s a quick, breezy and highly entertaining thread. Kudos to Gibson for keeping his sense of humor intact.

Our quote of the day that got all this started was this: “We have to make decisions that are deliberative about our health care at every moment. What I have said is that if I cannot say another prayer, if I cannot give or get another hug, and if I cannot have another martini – then let me go.” — Monsignor Charles Fahey, 76, chairman of the board of the National Council on Aging, a nonprofit service and advocacy group. He was responding to the Associated Press about Sarah Palin’s “death panel” accusations.
