Amazing stuff out today. NYT reports on his emails with a bona fide radical Muslim cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, born in New Mexico of Yemeni parents, now in England praising Hasan as “a hero.” And Wapo has scored a Powerpoint presentation that Hasan gave at Walter Reed two years ago, the final slide of which is spooky in the extreme: “Department of Defense should allow Muslims [sic] Soldiers the option
of being released as ‘Conscientious objectors’ to increase troop morale
and decrease adverse events.”

If, as has been reported, Hasan sought a discharge from the Army rather than be deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, you’ve got to wonder what his superiors knew, and when, and what they were thinking.
