I blogged a bit ago about the differences between the burkha, hijab, and niqab. At the time, the news was about France taking another step toward eliminating the hijab in public areas. Since then, an appeals court ordered that a Pa. prison can ban employees from wearing the muslim headscarf.

With all of this talk, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has an interesting page on their website that allows women to give short accounts as to why they do, or don’t, wear the headscarf. Known as “Project hijab,” the collection is described by the website:

In this special video collection, women from six countries explain why they do (or do not) wear the hijab. France made headlines recently when it banned the burqa from public spaces, but debate about Islamic headwear goes on in every corner of the world. Click on any of the videos to hear opinions from women around the world.

They accept submissions from around the world:

Are you a woman who wears the hijab? Or are you a woman who’s against Islamic headwear? Send us your short videos telling us about your choice. Or upload to YouTube, or another video-sharing site, and send a link to RFE/RL’s webteam. Or share your video link through Twitter using the hashtags #whyiwearthehijab and #whyidontwearthehijab.
