Looks like religion and manliness is the talk of cybertown these days. Joe Carter over at First Things insists that Jesus is not, in fact, a cage fighter. First, however, establishes his own “man cred”…with some caveats:

“I’ve hunted for snipe and fished for shark. I’ve eaten rattlesnake, alligator, and the pork patty from an MRE. I’ve stoically endured tornados, typhoons, and a two-year-old toddler. I keep a .40 caliber Glock under my pillow. My hero is John Wayne.

The counter-argument to my manliness: I own a lot of Celine Dion albums.”

Meanwhile, the folks at Two Friars and a Fool are having their own conversation about “Biblical Masculinity“:

“We at Two Friars and a Fool are huge giggling fanboys of Rachel Held Evans and towns full of monkeys. Conversations with her about her year of biblical womanhood project inspired us to do some thinking of our own about masculinity and biblical portrayals of masculinity and whether we have anything intelligent to say about these subjects, being men who sometimes read the Bible. So we sat down to have a little conversation…”

Not one to leave women out of the conversation, Presbyterian Pastor Carol Howard Merritt at the Tribal Church blog thinks there are a few things men should know about Post-Evangelical Women:

“I find myself wanting to explain what it’s like to grow up as a conservative Evangelical woman and how difficult the transition into leadership is from that place. I work a lot in the conference world, and my issues often arise there. I hear the whispers that men don’t. So, even though I’m at risk of sounding like a bad Cosmo article, I decided to write 7 Things Guys Need to Know about PEWs (Post-Evangelical Women). Basically, it’s the stuff we’re saying or dm’ing when you’re not there.”

BoingBoing offers a short peak at the new graphic novel “Habibi,” which reportedly mixes “Islamic legend, science fiction dystopia, love and loss”:

“Craig Thompson’s new graphic novel Habibiis an enormous and genre-busting graphic novel that blends Islamic mysticism, slave/liberation narratives and post-apocalyptic science fiction, creating a story that is erotic, grotesque, and profoundly moving.”

Wired has a followup to their earlier article about the FBI’s allegedly anti-Islam training sessions, and this time the Wired team claims to have some video evidence:

“The FBI has publicly declared that its counterterrorism training seminars linking ‘mainstream’ Muslims to terrorists was a ‘one time only’ affair that began and ended in April 2011. But two months later, the Bureau employee who delivered those controversial briefings gave a similar lecture to a gathering of dozens of law enforcement officials at an FBI-sponsored public-private partnership in New York City.”

Finally, our Tweet of the Day comes from Muslim comedian Aman Ali. His tweet doesn’t have all that much to do with religion, but it’s probably a universal truth:

@amanali – I’ve never gotten on a conference call and afterwards said to myself “Man, what an awesome way to spend 5 hours of my life.”
