Yesterday, as mentioned, was the first day of Hanukkah. We all know what that means: It’s time for a good, old fashioned Politician Holiday Well-Wishing Tweet Off!

This year most of the Republican presidential candidates got in on the holiday tweet-fest (although apparently nothing yet from Ron Paul or Rick Santorum?), each with their own particular flair. Michele Bachmann lead the pack with an enthusiastic well-wishing (exclamation points are awesome!!!!!!), followed closely by a personal greeting from Mitt Romney‘s family and an Unnecessarily Capitalized Message from Jon Huntsman.

The two southern candidates displayed contrasting styles. Newt Gingrich went all out with the linguisticly-savvy “I know Hebrew!” approach…

Italian government scientists are reporting that the Shroud of Turin was apparently created by a supernatural event, supposedly debunking the theory that the garment is, you know, totally fake. The announcement excited some, but vocal atheist and prolific author Richard Dawkins was not impressed.

Have you heard of the New Dominionists? Well now you have.

Finally, you get two Videos of the Day – again! The first is a mesmerizingly gorgeous lightshow from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the United Arab Emirates (turn on the HD and watch full screen if you can):

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Projections from Obscura Digital on Vimeo.

And speaking of (a festival of) lights, your second video is rockin’ musical trip through the ages…of Hanukkah!
