TRENTON, N.J. (RNS) As part of a survey to understand why they have stopped attending Mass, a few hundred lapsed Catholics were asked what issues they would raise with the bishop. He would have gotten an earful. By Peggy McGlone.

Why 2/3 women and a median age of 53? Is this the true demographics of people not attending Mass? According to Wikipedia, the US median age is 37 and women make up 51% of the population. The fact that so many older women took the time to answer the survey might give direction to the church regarding potential audience growth. As for the young and males, it is reasonable that for many of them, the church has lost all relevance .
