This is a perfect example of the wisdom of the framers of our Constitution in quickly adding as the very first clause in amending that flawed document the “non-establishment” of religion or church. That means a very real separation of church and state. We could look at the long and ugly history of evil done by religious people for their beliefs, but even current events in this country are sufficient to prove the wisdom of the framers. Religion and government just do not mix. They have always been oil and water.

Ours is supposed to be a secularist democracy. We have a very long way to go to clean up the mess we have allowed to develop by ignoring the wisdom of the framers and the Constitution they developed, along with its improving amendments, during the 225 years since it was written. Both religion and politics, churches and government, are healthier when kept free of each other, totally free.
