- Vatican Nuns Controversy – Fifty years ago Pope John XXIII convened a series of meetings in Rome known as the Second Vatican Council, which produced significant changes in Catholic life. But the legacy of Vatican II is still debated. Kim Lawton reports on how that debate has played a role in the current crisis between the Vatican and many US nuns. Last April, the Vatican accused the umbrella group that represents the majority of American nuns of “doctrinal confusion.” But many of these sisters say they are just following the spirit of Vatican II.
