DALLAS, TX (August 29, 2013)—Leadership Network is launching a year-long contest to find the best photos and stories of innovation in large churches. The goal of the contest is to collect photo essays featuring large, Protestant congregations. The idea of compiling photo essays, rather than single photos, was inspired by various news outlets’ use of the medium.

“In our organization we hear tons of great stories of what God is doing in various cities, but we rarely get to see pictures. Pictures can tell a story just as well, if not better, than words alone,” says Stephanie Jackson, publications manager for Leadership Network. “We think photographers can offer a fresh and unique, visual perspective of the vibrancy and life happening in churches around the world,” Jackson adds.

Citing the fact that many college journalism and photography classes encourage photo essays from their students, Managing Director Dave Travis affirms the approach, “We felt this would be a good opportunity to encourage artists to use their talents to share their church’s story with a broad audience.”

The contest, which is open to all photographers (pros, amateurs and students) around the world, will run until June 23, 2014, however, there will be prizes given for the top two entries each quarter. The first quarterly deadline is September 30th. Each entry should consist of 10-25 photos, each with a unique caption or description.
