MILWAUKEE, September 2013— The Apostleship of Prayer has appointed Mr. Santiago Rodriguez, S.J., to the position of youth and young adult director. Rodriguez, 32, is a scholastic (seminarian) from the English Canada Jesuit Province. He pronounced perpetual vows in 2010.

For over a year Rodriguez has been presenting the Apostleship of Prayer Hearts on Fire retreats in Canada and the United States, working with teams of 4 or 5 younger Jesuits to provide groups of 100-200 young adults an intense weekend encounter with the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola.  As full-time youth and young adult director, Rodriguez will continue to give Hearts on Fire retreats in both the United States and Canada.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity to serve young adults through my work at the Apostleship of Prayer,” said Rodriguez. “The Hearts on Fire retreats help young people contemplate beauty, grow in faith, draw nearer to the Heart of Jesus, and find ways to serve others.”

Rodriguez’ appointment to youth and young adult director is for two years.  He is replacing Fr. Phil Hurley, S.J., who in his four years in the position founded the popular Hearts on Fire retreat.  Fr. Hurley has been missioned by the Maryland Jesuit Province to service in Chile, South America.
