Atlanta, GA (January 6, 2014) – Today The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) announced that it has changed its name to Forum for Theological Exploration (FTE). The name change retains the acronym “FTE,” builds on the organization’s legacy and reflects the evolution of its work. In addition to its name change, FTE also launched a new website at fteleaders.org.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Forum for Theological Exploration remains committed to cultivating a new generation of diverse Christian leaders, pastors and theological educators.
“The needs of young leaders and the context for FTE’s work have changed significantly since FTE’s inception in 1954. FTE needed to adapt its work to address the diverse pathways and stories of young adults exploring and pursuing Christian ministry and teaching, and to inspire them to lead faithfully in a rapidly changing church and world. We wanted a name that reflects the organization’s evolving work,” said FTE Board Chair Rev. Dr. Wendy Fletcher.
FTE will expand its work beyond the Protestant Mainline, focus more on young adults’ vocational development and provide a forum for future leaders to engage in the theological exploration of Christian ministry. Young adults will also have opportunities to attend ministry exploration events without the requirement of an FTE fellowship.
“FTE has historically been known for awarding fellowships, but now it must focus more on providing young adults with a formative experience instead of a financial exchange to explore vocational questions,” said FTE President Stephen Lewis. “We have the exciting opportunity to help young leaders see Christian ministry and teaching as meaningful vocations to make an impact in the world.”
The Forum for Theological Exploration is committed to cultivating diverse young adults to be faithful, wise and courageous leaders for the church and the academy.
