Joni Eareckson Tada, a well-known Christian writer and quadriplegic, is the voice behind this year's biggest Oscar upset, the song "Alone Yet Not Alone" from the film of the same name. She talks about her surprise at the song's nomination, singing on half-capacity lungs, and what she would wear to the Academy Awards.

The Glory of God is man fully alive! Yes,what else can I say?

    Beautiful song and message.

I am disappointed you felt the need to be critical of good Christian men and women who are trying to produce good movies. Do you offer critical reviews of all the trash that is being produced and the movies that constantly put down people of faith? This looks like a good movie and the Christian movie industry has grown and is getting better. The negative attributes you mentioned aren’t limited to Christian movies.

Why do we have to soft-pedal our criticisms of Christian movies? And why wouldn’t Religion News have a special responsibility to review Christian films. I would not trust a positive review of a film if I saw them give kid glove treatments to films that were not high in quality. Since neither of us have seen it, at least we should withhold judgment of the review.

By the way, I think Christians need to hear each and every time we fall into stereotypical respresentation. How else will we learn?

  • So sorry to hear the nomination has been rescinded… It really is a beautiful song. This interview doesn’t touch upon another aspect of Joni’s life, which I blogged about last week — she is also a gifted artist.
