"The Committee is gravely concerned that the Holy See has not acknowledged the extent of the crimes committed, has not taken the necessary measures to address cases of child sexual abuse and to protect children, and has adopted policies and practices which have led to the continuation of the abuse by and the impunity of the perpetrators," the report said.

  • One has to wonder why the UN has not “required ” the same of public schools. Or why it has not addressed issues of terrorism, genocide, child slavery, known to be practiced in other faiths.

The problem with catholic church is they don’t understand Christ. Therefore, they hold false doctrine. The pope is not The Holy See, Christ alone is. Nobody comes to God except through Christ. Christ never said a man cannot be married and preach. He didn’t say you can’t marry and go on preaching. He only said you are better off if you can avoid it. Men that want to serve Christ are being told they “can’t” marry and go on preaching. This creates frustration and children being vulnerable are being molested as a result. These men should marry, then they wont need to sin. The false doctrine has created this situation in catholic church. It can’t be hid!

Nice try for false equivalence Harry but it is really silly. Show me how public schools as a unified entity has deliberately shielded sexual predators employed by them from prosecution, then we can talk.

“Or why it has not addressed issues of terrorism, genocide, child slavery, known to be practiced in other faiths.”

They do. You just don’t pay attention.

Maybe you can explain why you have to make excuses for sexual abuse by members of clergy?

The War against Al Queda has been supported by the U.N.
The US/Afghanistan war was supported by the U.N.

The United Nations has been very forcefully against terrorism. Notwithstanding its other many deficiencies.

What doesn’t the church understand about Christ?
Jesus supported slavery, rape, torture, sexual repression, forgiveness of psychopaths, bigotry and the belief that children got what they deserved because they were evil.

Jesus was a Rabbi who taught the Torah, remember?
    Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy…etc.

    I wonder.
How can pope francis be an outspoken advocate of helping the poor and disenfranchised, but not address this issue head on?

How can any moral human associate themselves with this criminal organization?

How can our governmental leaders meet with any leader of this criminal organization while this cloud of crimes against humanity itself drapes them like the velvet robes so many of them have chose to adorn themselves with?

How come those who normally comment on articles on RNS lamenting the supposed destruction of society because of gay marriage and birth control not be filling up this comment section with venomous outrage?

What is it about religion that keeps not only our legal system, but those of many other countries from prosecuting this criminal organization?

How can any sane human believe that a god cares so much about humans it would answer the most inconsequential of prayers, but does nothing while hundreds of those spreading its supposed message of love molest, rape and abuse thousands of the most vulnerable among us?

    So I wonder.
How can anyone place themselves in subservience to this god, and worship it and still think they have morals?

    Religion is poison!!

This makes me feel sick! The Vatican has protected these child molesters for decades! Possibly even centuries! How come our Western society is incapable of bringing those responsible to justice!? If I ever had a tiny bit of respect for Catholics, that respect is no forever lost!

I simply can not respect a person who – after these horrible practices and crimes have been revealed – chooses to stay with this criminal organization!

  • Most child molestation takes place within families. Even with the knowledge and consent of the non-abusing parent. This has happened for millennia.

The Church has many deficiencies with secrecy, protecting abusers, and a leadership too easily groomed by addicts. It is not a criminal organization. But individuals within it are criminals and have assisted criminal behavior by inaction. The fight against sex abuse and cover up is not helped by exaggeration and misdiagnosis.
