    Ideology, including religions, does contribute to the spread of conflict and prejudice. But ideology includes secular thought and atheism as well. All are transmitters of prejudice and resulting conflict. Religion is not exclusive in the regard.

    In America, we just spread these negative social interactions via a powerful gov. That way its less personal, as intended. And thr secular thinkers can believe since they have reinforcement via the state that the lack of religious freedom that results serves a good humanitarian purpose.

    As for the man in the article, of course he should choose his own path. I believe that is the primary difference between a conservative and progressive in america. Conservatives want thr freedom to choose while progressives want less choice as they believe they know best and have a plan to Institute it in government.

    Same conflict, different packaging.
