Kansas City, MO – Global Sisters Report, the groundbreaking project giving greater voice to Catholic sisters around the globe, celebrates its one-year anniversary today. As the first reporting initiative dedicated exclusively to Catholic sisters, the project’s website, GlobalSistersReport.org, presents a realistic portrait of Catholic sisters in a changing world.

The project brings together a worldwide network of editors and writers, some of whom are sisters themselves, and includes articles written from sisters’ perspectives. These stories from around the globe range from sisters maintaining their ministries despite threats from Boko Haram and ISIS to accounts of promoting social justice, such as sisters’ participation in the historic Selma march.

“Catholic sisters are committed agents of change who live community in ways that disrupt common thinking,” said Mary Lou Nolan, managing editor. “Telling their stories on a journalistic platform has been eye-opening. We’re looking forward to reporting more about them and the social justice issues they care about.”

The project has already profoundly impacted the women religious community and counts readers in nearly 200 countries.

“For the first time ever, the stories of women religious globally are being told in a comprehensive manner. What’s emerging before us is the reality of what already is — a global network of dedicated women working to improve the lives of the most marginalized in the world,” said Tom Fox, Global Sisters Report director. “This project is great for the women, great for the church, and an advance in journalism just when other media are pulling back from international coverage for lack of funds,” he added.

Following the release of the apostolic visitation report last December, Global Sisters Report established itself as a top news source for all things women religious, providing comprehensive news and analysis on the topic and sparking lively discussion across its online community.

The project has also developed content-sharing partnerships with news organizations such as KCUR 89.3 FM, Catholic News Service and Huffington Post, in addition to sharing content with National Catholic Reporter.
