In the age of social media, companies have taken to Twitter to address customers concerns in real time. Often, companies return quick and genuinely apologetic responses when a customer complains in public.

That may be what Dr. Nathan Lorick, Director of Evangelism for the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, was hoping for when he tweeted American Airlines.

Lorick, who may have been on his way to the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) annual national meeting in Ohio, faced massive delays from the airline. He tweeted his frustrations with the delays to which American Airlines quickly responded, “We’re sorry for the delay, Nathan. We see that you are on your way and we’ll have you home shortly.”

However, the exchange did not end there. Curiosity got the best of Lorick and he decided to ask American Airlines why they were sporting a new rainbow logo.

“June is pride month across the globe and we are proud to support the LGBT community and its allies.”

Lorick was having none of it. À la Franklin Graham, Lorick made his distaste known about LGBT “lifestyles.”

“Seems like a poor choice from a company that certainly has many customers who do not agree with that lifestyle! #disappointed”

To which American Airlines made a quick, and sassy, retort:

“We’re sorry for your disappointment.”

Lorick has since made his tweets private, as the exchange has gone viral.

The truth is that more and more companies are becoming unapologetically LGBT friendly. It’s simply good for business to be overtly pro-LGBT. Whether it’s simply for revenue or if the companies actually care about LGBT civil rights isn’t questioned. These companies see a niche group of individuals with large purchasing power for a profitable business venture.

Almost every major airline in the United States has in some way or another supported LGBT couples. Of course, the support for LGBT community isn’t limited to airlines. Many companies, from virtually every market, are allies to the LGBT community.

Perhaps next time he should drive.
