The SC did not redefine marriage so much as it removed, again, the right of religion to be the sole arbiters of marriage contracts that give tax incentives and tax breaks to “couples”. Churches should stop whining and complaining that they’ve lost their moral majority and learn how to share. They didn’t share with gay people in the benefits granted to married couples, so gay people had to use their bibles, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, to obtain what religionists had monopolized for themselves. That’s hardly a government seizure” of what belongs to all of us. Now where is are the churches defending the rights of bachelors and spinsters who are NOT gay and who are still denied the benefits granted to married people? Off playing self-righteous moral snobs as of yore?

This ruling will ruin our religion. God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. All LGBT Mormons should not receive Temple benefits should leave our religion and form their own. This is the day the Supreme Court killed Democracy

  • Ted

You get what you give in this world. False christians have been killing, ostracising, and attempting to “cure” homosexuals for 1,000 years. And, now you call us hateful (!?) simply for gaining the exact same rights you take not just for granted, but as a special privilege for you and you alone.

May God have mercy on your souls.

  • Ted

LGBT people get the same rights you take for granted, and you act as though the sky is falling.

    Your selfishness is sin

  • Chris wood

You’re fine to believe in what you want to believe. I know that God created me exactly the way that I am, Just because a “book” was written; by humans btw, God did not write a book, humans did, it doesn’t mean that my existence is a sin. God creates everyone exactly as he wanted, me included. If we are going to follow an ancient book of stories that means we can trade women for goats and stone people to death. Does God ever want us to kill in his name? No because it is not our work it is his, we all need to stop trying so hard to be the righ person and just exist as he wanted. Me getting married is none of your briefness just like you being a bigot is none of mine. We are an amazing species and if we stopped focusing so hard on our egos and personal agendas and started focusing on working together we could achieve the world. You can say it is a “lifestyle” all you want but you are not a gay person and how dare you. You didn’t decide to be straight just like i didn’t decide to…

  • Wissa

Well people, the LGBT community is celebrating. Let everyone celebrate how American children will be sodomized. Now there will be no protection for those who want to be just heterosexual. The judges took that right away in their wisdom. They really know what they are doing!

  • David Frensley

    The Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president,

    Conference:

“At the end of the day, I know for certain, that the moment biblical truth stands defined as hate speech in our nation, America, as we know her, will cease to exist.”

So much for old white men dying off. They are being replaced by young brown Christians.

Jesus was not an old white man either. He was a young brown man.

  • David Frensley

Look, the sky is not falling. The so-called LGBT community is no bigger than one city. Just ignore them and you won’t even know they are there. The Christian Church came out of Roman cities. They ignored the LGBT-Romans and lived their lives as Jesus led them to live. If people with a brain conditioned somehow by environment or congenital disease wants to glorify their same sex sexual behavior and want that behavior to literally define what and who they are, what a miserable life that has to be. See, ignoring those kinds of people is as easy as the maturing process. The sham of gay marriage lies in the fact that the celebrations of this decision TODAY will be by men and women gay and lesbian having indiscriminate sex with multiple sex-partners in one night. Do you think in the Castro, Boston and “Boys Towns” section in every major city are thinking about the monogamy and dignity of real marriage? No way. They are celebrating gay sex becoming even more popularized.

  • David Frensley

This is about popularizing and affirming gay sex. This has nothing to do with the “sanctity” of marriage. THAT is why it is framed as economic rights and nothing else.

This will have its day in the pop headlines and in a few years, it will fade back into the darkness it came from. As children yearn for a life of normality, gay rights will look like the abomination that so many Christians – hated by the unstable – were actually correct about.

  • Greg1

It will be interesting to see if South Carolina will declare secession from the union over this decision.

  • Ben in oakland

Well the first problem with what you say is the biblical truth is not being redefined as hate speech. It’s one thing to tell me and I am a sinner. It’s quite another thing to try to enforce your prejudices, justified as “sincere religious belief” through the force of civil law.

It’s still yet ANOTHER thing to make up a bunch of crap about people you don’t know and know nothing about to justify the harm you wreak towards them. And it’s quite. ANOTHER thing to use the crap you just made up as a justification for jails, murders, suicides, ruined lives, and executions.

  • Ben in oakland

Popularizing and affirming gay sex? Of course that’s what it’s about for you, because you don’t know anything about gay people, and you think it’s all about sex. It’s your limited understanding that’s the problem.

You are deluded. There is no possible other explanation for it. For the last 50 years, gay people have been struggling to end this prejudice. Or some such as you, all that will do is reaffirm your opposition to something that you don’t understand, and which is absolutely NONE of your business.

If you think it is just sex, you are deluded. There is no possible other explanation for it. For the last 50 years, gay people have been struggling to end this prejudice. Or some such as you, all that will do is reaffirm your opposition to one thing like a fad, you are beyond deluded.

  • Ben in oakland

Honey, you’re projecting again. It is not us that define ourselves by her sexual behavior. That’s strictly all on you so-called Christians. If the entirety of homosexuality is just some fad, as you seem to think, it is amazing how little strength your brand of Christianity, your perversion of morality, your obsession with sex, and your Most NATURAL Heterosexuality has against it.

  • Ben in oakland

Why do you hate Amefica? Or why do you think they do as much as you do?

  • Doc Anthony

May God have mercy on all our souls.

We’re all Americans, and America is in unprecedented deep trouble right now.

  • RandyW

You’re from a historically racist religion and you want to whine about minority groups being given the rights you have? Well, I suppose it might make sense, as the government did set the condition for Utah’s statehood as the elimination of polygamy. So, your minority group got a right removed from it, and now you’re being spiteful when a different minority group has a right extended to it. You’re not being a sore loser; you’re being a sore bystander. If you don’t want someone else’s religious beliefs enforced upon you, don’t demand that yours be forced upon others.

  • Mick

Sorry look they made gay marriage legal…. not mandatory…..So assuming you don’t intend to marry someone of the same sex this has absolutely no effect on you, or your belief whatsoever.

However if what you are saying is that your religion requires that you have a conclusive say in how everyone else lives their lives and that they should acquiesce to your religious beliefs over their own or no religious beliefs…. and you think that this is some ‘extra’ right you should have that others do not have…. then your religion should be banned.

You get Free EXERCISE of YOUR religion…you do not get to insist that everyone else does the same!

  • Mick

Am I reading this right….? you somehowe read into this rulting that is makes homosexualty mandatory and also more likely…and will also somehow increase pedophila …. really?

So the passing of that law today…somehow magically made more people gay did it? And it also means that hetrosexuals will now be forced to marry gays folks? Not to mention your rather sick comment trying to aligned homosexuality with child abuse…. which is utterly reprehensible… thankfully though only accepted by the slack jawed.

And in fairness with the greatest of respect you’d wonder why the secular world automatically assumes the religious are intellectually challenged….

Why on earth would they presume any different when they see comments like that?

What are you? Some sort of Anti-thiest pretending to be Christian and out to make the religious look bad? Cos I refuse to believe anyone is truly that stupid…and can also type at the same time…

  • Greg1

Ben, when dictates like this one, and its predecessor abortion, are pushed upon us by five lawyers with robes, then we must respond properly, but not accept the ruling. Laws like this are like throwing a rock in a pond. They have a ripple effect that is devastating to society. When this type of aberration become legal, then it takes on the whole legal component, including teaching it to our students in the public schools. When homosexuality was hidden in the shadows, parents were in control of properly raising their children; now, however, it will be much more difficult. And to the contrary of what you guys might think, doing this disgraceful act by the SCOTUS, will only further (and more radically) divide the USA, not unite us.

  • larry

So what you are saying is religious fools love to waste money on contributing to political lost causes and work to violate personal liberties using their voting power.

You will now start making politicians and their re-election committees very rich who make silly empty promises about banning gay marriage. But of course they won’t do squat on the subject. Just like several Republican controlled White Houses and Congresses are no closer to banning abortion after 40 years

    Damn, you guys are gullible!

  • I just do not get how religious fanatics and all these self-described “Good Christians” think it is their place in 2015 to translate the Bible literally….on matters like homosexuality and simply ignore all the other outrageous and insane passages relating to things like adultery, divorce, slavery and so on ! It is bogus hogwash….and you know it ! These lousy and evil zealots have no problem treating gays like third class citizens and upholding age-old lies, myths and falsehoods about homosexuals as a way to justify their intolerant religiously-fueled hate and homophobia. The Supreme Court victory for same-sex marriage was close ! The margin was 5 (in favor) and 4 (opposed). Religious fanatics like Antonin Scalia are ultra-conservative, homophobic, ignorant and rabidly anti-gay ! All these things color his decision…whether you admit that or not ! Clarence Thomas is black and should no better ! He, firsthand, should personally know how hideous and vile bigotry, discrimination…

  • Ben in oakland

They said much the same thing about Brown versus Board of Education and loving versus Virginia. You shouldn’t try to change tradition, they said. There will be devastating consequences. In those days, then “devastating consequences” were nothing more than black people being treated the same as white people. And now, the devastating effect will even be worse: gay people being treated the same as straight people. And even worse than that? My God, those people are getting married. What a horrible way to affirm the value of marriage!!!!!!!And now, the devastating effect will even be worse: gay people being treated the same as straight people. And even worse than that? My God, those people are getting married. What a

And what exactly is the ripple of fact that will occur that will be so devastating to society? When is this ever happened in the 15 years that marriage has been legal or in the 30 years that domestic partnerships were legal?

    Nonsense. nonsense! And MORE nonsense.

However, until the root of these problems is Biblically addressed, we will never shut down the infanticide mills, we will never defeat the sodomites, and we will never fix the economy. In short, we will never win the culture wars. What remains to be seen is if this ruling against States’ rights will be used as a tool to punish Christian churches who refuse to perform homosexual “marriages”.
If that should be the case, then this is the biggest threat to religious liberty since the founding of this nation.
I will stand with God’s Word and refuse to associate with any church which bows to tyranny and performs homosexual “marriages”.

  • Xman3

Ben, what favor Kool-Aid do you drink?

  • vinny guzman

I’m sure all your feelings towards god’s word is because u know it says this, plain and simple:

    (leviticus 20:13)
“If a man lies down with a male the same as one lies down with a woman, both of them have done a detestable thing. They should be put to death without fail. Their own blood is upon them”

(1 corinthians 6:9,10) “..submit to homosexual acts, men who practice homosexuality, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God’s Kingdom.”

    (Deuteronomy 22:5)
“A woman must not put on the clothing of a man, nor should a man wear the clothing of a woman. For anyone doing so is detestable to Jehovah your God.”

  • Martha

While the Bible disapproves of homosexual acts, it does not condone hatred of homosexuals or homophobia. Instead, Christians are directed to “respect everyone.”—1 Peter 2:17

The Bible doesn’t comment directly on the biology of homosexual desires, though it acknowledges that we are all born with a tendency to go against what God commands. (Romans 7:21-25) Rather than focus on the cause of homosexual desires, however, the Bible prohibits homosexual acts.

The Bible says: “Don’t be controlled by your body. Kill every desire for the wrong kind of sex.” (Colossians 3:5, Contemporary English Version) To kill wrong desires, which lead to wrong actions, you need to control your thinking. If you regularly fill your mind with wholesome thoughts, you can more readily dismiss wrong desires. (Philippians 4:8; James 1:14, 15) While you may struggle greatly at first, it can become easier. God promises to help you to “be made new in the force actuating your mind.”—Ephesians 4:22-24.

  • Jimbo

    Ben,

If you wished for equal rights you got it. As a Catholic Christian and raised Baptist/Presb Christian I have to love and respect all people. So you want to get a civil union, ok. But scripture does state that a marriage under and blessed by god is that of a man and a woman so don’t expect a church to marry a man and man or woman and woman without amendments. This does not effect me in anyway. I do not teach hate in my house about this life choice but as a moral point is a no no. As far as the Constitution no one in government can/should not restrict a persons inalienable rights such as religion, race or nationallity. Also there is the separation of church and state so the government can’t tell the church to many you nor can the church deny you to vote or bother with your rights in businesses, politics etc. But I also don’t and will not agree with your life style. But if a gay person act in a truly “Christian” way I believe that god can forgive this sin. Just some thoughts.

  • Jimbo

Sorry, ran out of characters. In saying this. you must repent contritely and do not perform this sin again.

  • Jimbo

    Ben,

To your biblical truth post. Christians follow Christ’s teachings that all life is sacred, and detest taking live. But humans are not perfect. Blood was spilt many times over throughout fingers by every religion in the world. So don’t point fingers. • David

You can not legislate morality on any level except those actions which bring direct harm, physical harm to another group. If you understand the basic precepts of a good law, it’s that it protects the individual’s right to say and believe what they feel is right, as long as it does not bring “physical or financial” harm to an individual. Verbal abuse is not characterized as “harm” because to legislate verbal abuse on any level would give substance to a majority’s or minority’s power to outlaw or or restrict “freedom of speech” which is the most important balance in our entire Constitution.

I am a follower of Christ and from a civil stand point, I think there is very little ground to stand on legally in order to restrict financial benefit to a social group, which if you dig deep enough, you will discover that much of the argument at hand has alot wrapped up in financial restrictions, taxes, insurances, benefits, and such.

    However . . . .

  • David

However, I’m not ignorant enough to believe that there isn’t underlying intention that’s wrapped up into this argument of wanting to redefine marriage as a whole and not simply just to allow for unions and the benefits tied to those unions.

Marriage is a practice, ordinance, whatever you want to call it, that is defined by and within the walls of religious belief. It means the “oneness” of a man and woman to become a single indivisible unit. Which means that marriage as a practice has an unmitigatable worth that can not be defined by courts or governments in general, although they try.

There’s nothing wrong with 2 men loving each other, or 2 women loving each other, it’s the sex that, I’m venturing a guess that holds the greatest offense in the back and forth argument. It’s an attempt to act out the man / woman relationship without the presence of a man and a woman.

It’s more sad than offensive, I believe its a condition of our age, stemming from sheer lack…

there are too many reasons to catalogue, why marriage has taken on lessened persona in the eyes of our democracy. Infidelity, sexual immorality, easy get out of marriage schemes, pre-nups, lack of character on the parts of partners in a marriage, etc etc . . .

point being, when something as sacred as marriage is treated as such a small matter through the demonstration of individuals who didn’t grasp the importance of the relationship to begin with, they in turn detract from the overall value of marriage and destroy its sacredness in the eyes of their children and those to whom they are acquainted with both family and friends. And the sheer volume at which marriages are disregarded in today’s society, in turn destroys the overall value that a society places on the act of marriage. Thereby, opening it up to whatever definition one wants to apply to it.

In Short, Christian society has destroyed the definition of marriage, because they (not everyone) undervalued it by their…

Your dad should try reading the Bible . . .

Yes, yes, from beginning to end.

There is nothing in the Bible that justifies anything pro-homosexuality or pro-homosexual position. It is repugnant to demand there is.

  • Dave Frensley

    Ben,

A “good” Christian cannot and will not justify or “affirm” their own sins. According to the same new testament they hold as important to understand WHAT being a Christian is all about. They most certainly won’t redefine homosexuality and “affirm it” as not being a sin.

It is repugnant to be a pro-homosexuality advocate and use anything Biblical to try that attempt.

  • Dave Frensley

    Mick,

Your gay activist buddies don’t view the rights of Christians to oppose gay behavior as even being legal. Let alone a religious right guaranteed by the constitution.

Hopefully you will be a very active proponent of the rights of Christians to refuse to support the homosexualization of Christian life. YOU have the right to engage in homosexuality in any way YOU choose. Christians have the right to find that unacceptable and repugnant.

FREE EXERCISE means that Christians get to live their lives outside of their Church buildings the same way as they do inside them.

  • Dave Frensley

    Wissa,

That may be true as one looks to history to find a guide. But Christians are “out and proud” when exposing the darkness inside the gay pride movement. The very same ambivalent populace that supposedly supported gay marriage, will come down like a hammer on the pederasts and sodomites that make up a large portion of the gay community, if they actually seize their desires from the children of normal people. Harvey Milk was made a hero with absolutely ONLY the gay pride movement knowing he was a pederast with a teen sex partner. Once this sickness starts to actually, really, “come out,” the common people will rise up against the sexually depraved like they always have throughout history. Neither President Obama, nor the supreme court imparts anything noble to a movement that has been stalking the populace for ages. The sky is not falling. Mankind has been through many times.

  • Dave Frensley

    Larry,

Well done pointing out how corrupt the politicians are that won’t do anything to curb homosexuals and homosexuality from ruling society. From bad to worse.

Interesting that a person like you would be so open about that.

  • Dave Frensley

    Ben

Black people make a large portion of Christians that oppose the gay pride demands. Including the AME Church where president Obama put on his circus act.

Now let’s see you breathe your anti-Christian hatred towards the AME Black Christians that oppose your homosexual behaviors. The truth is that there is nothing supporting a person from the Christian life to be encouraging of homosexuality. Do you really sell the nonsense that gay marriage isn’t about validating gay sex? That would be ridiculous if you even attempted an answer. Do you really believe that over the nights since the SC decision came down that gays started a purity movement in gay bars and bath houses or “gay affirming churches” throughout the country? No way man, there was the TYPICAL gay promiscuity on a scale that no straight person other than a porn actor (or california college student) could comprehend.

    And you know this.

  • Dave Frensley

    Ben,

The gay flag is closer to the swastika-imprinted nazi flag when considering what its followers demand of Christians. Soon it will be an all in or all out movement. In some cities it is hung exactly like the nazi-flag was. You follow its precepts or else.

  • Dave Frensley

    Zman3,

Be very careful what you ask.

You may learn in very stark ways what the word “repugnant” actually means.

  • Greg1

Dr. Marcia. One correction: homosexuality IS a psychological disorder. It always has been until some so called psychiatric and psychological “professionals” decided by panel vote in the 1970’s that it would no longer be considered what it always has been considered: a disorder. It shows that the mob rules, even in medicine.

  • Andrew W

Religion is the only thing that has EVER made homosexuality “wrong.” That is a fact. There isn’t a single Christian denomination that has reversed that. Not one. To be a Christian you must still believe homosexuality is wrong. It isn’t wrong, especially considering the fact that religion is simply a story.

The encouraging news is that Christian hatred of the LGBT community and the Muslim’s barbaric behavior in the Middle East, are hastening the end of religion. Today in the US less than half of the population self-describe as “religious.” Less than one-third of Americans under the age of 25 consider themselves religious.

Religion maintains a grip only in areas of extreme ignorance. This alone is evidence of the reality that with education and understanding religion loses its appeal. But, for many people the infection was planted at a very young age – before thought and reason. If you question that fact try this on – more than 90% of ALL “religious” people never chose…

  • Ben in oakland

Of course it is. The rainbow flag, representing equality, is Just like the flag that represented the second worst war in the history of the world, the slaughter of6 million people, and a couple of Atomic bombs dropped on two cities.

Nothing is being demanded of you except to treat other people the way you would like to be treated, to stop your judgment of people you don’t know and clearly know nothing about, and to focus on your own sins instead of mine. You know? what Jesus bade you do?

You are not the only Christian here, and your persecution is completely imaginary. Given your slanderous lies, you’re not a Christian. You haven’t the slightest bit of evidence for the slanders and reviling you just pronounced, just a couple of idiots who were too stupi to engage in sound business practices.

But sure. Keep repeating your lies, slanders, reviling and your defiance of reality. Im sure it makes you feel very righteous.

Here’s my suggestion to you. Grow up.

  • Ben in oakland

And there you are LYING AGAIN Greg.you have been corrected any number of times, but you will persist.

Lying for Jesus is STILL LYING GREG.

Thanks for proving once again that this has nothing to do with your religion, and everything to do with hate,

  • Ben in oakland

You are affirming your own sin of unrighteousness judgment, slandering and reviling.

    Own it.

  • Ben in oakland

And no one disagrees with you at all, except of course, a lot of Christians.

Feel free to preach against homosexuality, attack gay people with lies, accuse us of persecuting you. I frankly don’t care.

But a lot of decent, kind, compassionate, intelligent and CHRISTIAN people are going to see you for the bigot you are, and call you out on it.

  • Ben in oakland

Yup. Canada and the enitirety of Western Europe, peaceful, happy, and RICH, will just be ruined by it.

  • Ben in oakland

More slandering, more reviling, more lies, lies, lies, and lies.

Can you not possibly just admit your hatred, or are you going to continue to “love” us on that peculiar Christian way?

  • Ben in oakland

    We’re ruining society?

    More slanders, more lies.

you want us curbed? would that include prison or execution? Perhaps our free speech and freedom of religion curbed?

    do tell!

  • Ben in oakland

No, honey. YOU know it. unfortunately, you made it all up.

  • Ben in oakland

In other words, Christian values, deeply held religious beliefs, god’s of ands, and promises before God and community, have all been abandoned by both heterosexuals and Christians. so it must be gay people”s fault.

    TWO WORDS: BRISTOL PALIN.

A good Christian girl, a good moralizing shrew, and total hypocrite. she is pregnant by yet another man with another baby conceived out of wedlock.

Maybe you should talk to her.

  • Ben in oakland

I’ll answer you later if I have time. You are so wrong that you put into the “I am wrong” sweepstakes and take the top three prizes.

I’m going out to celebrate with my husband and friends

  • ben in oakland

@Well, thank you, more or less. You get points for supporting my right to live my life as I see fit, as your equal before the law of my government. I mean my thanks sincerely.

But here is where you start losing points.

I’m not interested in a civil union. I am interested in having EXACTLY what you have, nothing more and nothing less. I have a CIVIL MARRIAGE LICENSE right this very minute. The only reason that religion was involved at all was because we have a dear minister friend who really wanted to officiate our wedding. We let him do so, under the proviso that there was to be no religion involved. He was fine with that, though I’m sure he prayed for a blessing anyway, because that is the kind of man he is. And yet my marriage is still as legal as yours, with no religion at all. And that is exactly what I wanted.

    AND HAVE.

Religion is optional in civil marriage, I don’t care what scripture states. It is not my scripture.

  • ben in oakland

    @Jimbo.

Blood was spilt by religions because religious people aren’t perfect? Quelle surprise. Yet a certain class of so-called Christian is still happy to see the speck in my eye and miss the beam in their own.

This decision puts the nation at risk on a “biblical scale?” nonsense. And on a TRULY biblical scale. Where exactly has this happened? Western Europe has had marriage equality for 14 YEARS, and is still prosperous and peaceful. Where is gay marriage banned? In every hell hole in the world, Christian or not.

not believing that Jesus died for your sins is the one unforgiveable sin, and yet we have freedom of religion, freedom to reject the entirety of religious belief, and god doesn’t seem to care. He also didn’t seem to care about slavery, segregation, genocide, our wars of choice, bankers greed resulting in a world wide economic collapse, dropping two A-bombs, and a host of our other sins.

But two men or women demonstrating commitment? That will be TERRIBLE.

  • ben in oakland

    @Jimbo.

I must repent or WHAT? You’re going to hold your breath until you turn blue? The god I don’t believe in, who loves me so damned much, is going to make me burn in hell forever?

when you are free of sin, when you have no sins to repent of any longer, THEN AND ONLY THEN, Christian, may you tell me that I must repent of MY sins.

    Who said:

Judge not lest ye be judged?

Look not for the speck in your brother’s eye lest you miss the beam in your own?

Treat others as you would like to be treated?

Well, obviously, no one important to the kind of Christianity you and so many other people seem to practice.

All of us may be sinners. True. only some of us feel entitled to throw stones.

now, my husband and I, and 1.3 million of our closest friends, are off to San Francisco to celebrate not only this momentous decision supporting our equality, but yet another brick added to the wall of the separation of church and state.

Have a nice day. I know I will.

  • Greg1

Ben, I’ve asked you before to show me the study and the work that led to the changing of homosexuality from a disorder to normalcy.

  • Greg1

I don’t give financial support to either party, and I vote according to my faith. Many times I will abstain from voting if both candidates are Anti-Life, or going forward, Anti-Marriage.

  • Greg1

He did originally, but man, through sin, has descended to lower and lower levels of morality. We are very close to the bottom now. I’m not sure even Sodom and Gomorrah were this bad. Maybe we are the USG and not the USA.

  • Jerry Krause

My radical view on the U.S. Supreme Court’s passing of gay marriage nationwide is this: The smell of feces in the air shared between two men is not the sort of fragrance that can spark an offspring; motherly instincts that only a woman can behold, and fatherly instincts that only a man can behold. Two separate thoughts. The first a trespass on nature’s design; the latter designed to nourish life. I think it is not what is written on paper but having all the right ingredients that defines the true meaning of marriage.

  • Jerry Krause

I agree with Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee’s prediction that Christians will push back against gay marriage in a similar way to Dr. Martin Luther King’s fight against racial discrimination. “They either are going to follow God, their conscience and what they truly believe is what the scripture teaches them, or they will follow civil law,” Huckabee said. “They will go the path of Dr. Martin Luther King, who in his brilliant essay the letters from a Birmingham jail reminded us, based on what St. Augustine said, that an unjust law is no law at all. And I do think that we’re going to see a lot of pastors who will have to make this tough decision,” he continued.

  • Greg1

Dave, you might want to google, Larry Sinclair.

  • Deacon John M. Bresnahan

I recently read an account of that panel meeting. And according to it the dropping of homosexuality as a disorder was pushed through–not by some psychological breakthrough or genetic discovery— but by threats and intimidation of various types.

  • Deacon John M. Bresnahan

Talk about whitewash. Virtually every wedding I’ve been to the photographer and others were expected to virtually run the event and be deeply involved. And lawsuits have already been filed to coerce bakers, photographers, caterers, etc. into being part of gay “wedding”ceremonies

  • Ben in Oakland

Well, I’m glad to hear that there’s yet another Christian who wishes me to be executed by the state. Next thing you know, you’ll be telling me how much you love me and hate my sin– so much so that you were willing to have me executed.

Christian love: it’s just like regular love, except that it is frosted with hate.

  • Ben in Oakland

    @ jerry Krause.

It always amazes me the fascination of a certain class of so called Christian with anal sex. It’s all you think about. One has to wonder why?

And really? It’s an unjust law? I think it is only that you don’t like this law, as it is no injustice to you or anyone else, unless of course, all you can think about is to hot men having anal sex, and you weren’t getting any.

  • Ben in Oakland

    @david

Of course, you actually are ignorant enough to believe that. For you, it couldn’t possibly be the gay people are human beings, and value religion for precisely the reason is that heterosexuals value it. Because we were raised in a culture that values marriage, family and children. No, for the likes of you, asked to be all about benefits and money, insidious agendas and rebellion against God. And anal sex! Don’t forget anal sex.

Only in the imagination of an anti-gay bigott could possibly be that gay people are trying to imitate a man’s/woman relationship. It couldn’t possibly be that we are acting out authentically as we are made. Just so you know, both my husband and I are very aware that we are men. It couldn’t possibly be that we are acting out authentically as we are made.

Just so you know, We wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • Ben in Oakland

I’m absolutely sure that you believe that. It’s exactly what convinces me that you’re an anti-gay bigot, but of course, you won’t deny that forever and ever amen. Only by imagining us to be your persecutors send your conscience allow you to persecute us, and I think it’s a good idea. It’s called projection, and you are good at it.

  • Ben in Oakland

You can take that up with the Lutheran Church in Vienna, or perhaps the Holocaust Museum in Washington.

  • Greg1

Jimbo, the books and curriculum your children will be learning from in school will now include this nonsense. It will impact both you and your family.

  • Be Brave

    Ben,

Satanic evil has had great power and control and influence on mankind since its beginnings. No Christian is ignorant enough to think that the powers and principalities that power and empower homosexuality are not immensely powerful.

If evil wasn’t at work here, any and every homosexual and their supporters would be honest, that Christians that follow the teachings and preaching of Christ Jesus and the Apostles on marriage are morally, ethically and theologically sound in their choice to be in agreement with Jesus that marriage is immutably man and woman. But we see the same spirit and actions in the modern homosexual pride movement as was see in the ancient Sodomites and anti-Christian Romans. Any person that isn’t yet totally lost to the world and its ways, can see no bigotry, hate or irrational fear in Jesus/Gospel defined marriage. Ben, you have the right to be a non-Christian. Per Jesus. But according to the constitution, you have no right to be an anti-Christian.

  • Be Brave

    Paula,

It’s time to stop being ignorant of what lebians actually do and what they stand for. This isn’t about a tennis stroke or a short hair cut. L G B T and Q, have sexual behavior that defines them. Sodomy is definitely real.

Time to grow up and put away childish things.

You have let the wolf have access to all of the lambs. And they are not just going to play the baby-sitter.

Look up what “orientation” actually entails.

  • Max

In your church, right? And we are now to celebrate an act clearly spelt by same Bible as sin?

I wonder what our world and the christian faith is becoming.

Its about faith;its about God and what you have known about Him.Has he changed because of opinions of men?

  • Matthew

If the wedding is being run by the photographer or anyone other than the minister, it isn’t really a Christian wedding in the first-place. A true Christian wedding – straight or gay – is a worship service. Photographers and any other non-worshipers must stay in the background or not be there at all.

Of course, if the church was really in charge of weddings, we wouldn’t need a state issued marriage license would we? Except that we do in this country for it to be a “legal” wedding. Once the state started issuing marriage licenses, the church lost its right to define marriage. That happened a long time ago.

  • ben I. Oakland

Frankly, in the light of yesterday’s parade, I’m feeling very expansive.

Greg, I gave you that information, but you decided to ignore it. But it doesn’t matter, because if God himself came down and told you otherwise, you’d ignore it.

Google Evelyn Hooker. But you won’t.

First, you can read a book by Ronald Brayer called Homosexuality and American Psychiatry. But you won’t.

or, you can just admit that you are a flaming bigot who hides behind his religion o justify his refusal to accept reality. Because, dear, you ARE. But you won’t.

Your constant attempts to delegitimize the APA by claiming it was just a panel vote, when it was not, that there is no evidence, which there is, is a classic bigot ploy to redefine reality.

Even if what you have to say were true, which it isn’t, the APA as maintained this position for over 40 years. Shirley, if your side had some evidence, it would’ve been presented by now. Oh wait, it was in the referendum of the anti-gays…

  • ben In Oakland

Well, Deacon, I’m sure you did read that in some right wing website. Where else would you find a claim that over 40 years ago, a small Group of gay people forced a major professional organization to recant a position that they had maintained without evidence for decades, in full sight of the American public, the press, scientific criticism, and the police?

You don’t have to read the history books or engage in reality when you have God on your side, do you? It doesn’t matter that the APA stance is replicated by nearly every professional, medical, and scientific organization in the civilized world, does it? It couldn’t possibly be that you’re just a major bigot, like Greg, hiding behind your God and denying reality.

Have you noticed something? I’m done being polite and respectful to out and out bigots here. I’m sure that hurts your delicate feelings. But if you are going to lie, it is no longer necessary to respect the unrespectable lies of the fanatics.

  • Ben in Oakland

And of course, you were once again slandering and reviling me by claiming that I am anti-Christian. Again, that would be a very big surprise to my Christian friends, including the Christian minister who married us.

But that doesn’t matter, because accuracy and truth NEVER Matter to bigots as much as their bigotry does.

For the record, one more time. I am not anti-Christian and I really frankly don’t care what you believe, as long as you don’t try to impose it on me. I am anti-theocrat.

But you can continue to lies about me as much as you wish. That way, when you come to jesus, and he sends you to hell for lying, for slander and reviling, i’m sure the look of horror on your face will be quite amusing for the elect of heaven.

I only wish I could be there to see it.

“Well done pointing out how corrupt the politicians are that won’t do anything to curb homosexuals and homosexuality from ruling society. From bad to worse. ”

Because frankly there is no interest in doing so in a democratic and free society. Keeping our laws free of sectarian bigotry is necessary for maintaining a society which values religious freedom.

  • Larry

Glad to see fundamentalist Christians so open about their hatred of democratic society. Its so refreshingly honest.

James Dobson is going to be out of a job real soon. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

WE “RELIGIOUS” PEOPLE SHOULD STILL BE GRANTED THE SAME FREEDOM, RIGHTS, ESPECIALLY FREEDOM OF SPEECH THE HOMOSEXUAL WISH TO RECEIVE. YOU WANT EQUALITY? GIVE EQUALITY! DON’T BE IMMATURE ABOUT THE MATTER. YOU HOMOSEXUALS ARE SHOWING A CHARACTER OF NEEDINESS, BEING FORCEFUL, AND CONTROLLING. LET THE SAME FREEDOM YOU WISH TO RECEIVE BE KEPT BY THOSE THAT AREN’T GAY AND DON’T CONDONE HOMOSEXUALITY. DON’T REPRESENT YOURSELVES AS “DRAMA” AND “HIGH MAINTENANCE” BECAUSE YOU WON’T BE TAKEN SERIOUS FOR LONG. YOU MAY NOT BELIEVE IN GOD, BUT ONE DAY WHEN YOU SEE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS COME TO PASS, DON’T SAY NO ONE TOLD YOU THE TRUTH. IF ANYTHING, IT WOULDN’T HURT- I CHALLENGE YOU TO RESEARCH IT FOR YOURSELF IN THE BIBLE- GET YOUR ANSWERS FOR YOUR OWN SELF: • 3 refer to intercourse between men (Leviticus 18:21-22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:27)
    • 1 refers to intercourse between women (Romans 1:26)
    • 1 refers to prostitution and pederasty (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
    • 1 is general in nature…

“Glad that you have it all figured out, what we will do and what are plans are.”

Well you are taking your cues from the segregationist playbook. Its easy to see how that plays out. There is not an original thought among your crowd. Its what happens when you only read one book.

In about 20 years lying revisionist conservative Christians will be trying to take credit for the works of affirming churches for their support of marriage equality. Just like the former segregationists try to appropriate the Civil Rights movement. Its how you get such fictions as calling Alveda King a “civil rights leader” despite being aligned with groups very much against civil liberties and leading nothing.

One thing has ben crystal clear, Fundamentalists love throwing money away on stupid crap. Televangelists, go nowhere political causes, various legislative efforts to violate the Constitution, multi-level marketing, you guys are gullible!

If you sincerely believe that God condones same-sex marriage, then you are the one in need of His mercy for you mock Him and His holy institution of marriage.

  • Stephen

You are the one who is deluded but you most likely will not realize it until it is too late.

“And (We sent) Lot when he said to his people: What! do you commit an indecency which any one in the world has not done before you?
Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extravagant people.
And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify .
So We delivered him and his followers, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind.
And We rained upon them a rain; consider then what was the end of the guilty.” ( Quran – 7:80 – 84)

This passage is an apparent reference to the activities at Sodom and Gomorrah.
May LORD forgive me and peace be on those who follow true guidance. Ameen

Homosexuality is biologically and logically wrong any way you look at it. It is not a marriage, rather it is a relationship. We are experimenting with humanity and biology tells us that this is emphatically abnormal behavior. Why is this so hard to see?

  • Tom

It is not about rights. It is about the acceptance of abnormal behavior as normal. This is a sad time for our country and our youth that are already confused since they are pulling away from what kept us sane….the bible.

  • Tom

Being gay is a product of incorrect upbringing. It is not genetics because we know all of the genes and there isn’t a gene that codes for abnormal and biologically unfit behavior. Sad.

  • Tom

gay is abnormal. it is biologically wrong. wake up.

  • Tom

Gay is biologically abnormal. it is a symptom of a sick society that is losing its family values and the proper way to have a relationship. The penis was not made for the anus. It is pretty obvious but you and your supporters choose to ignore the facts.

really? read the Bible again in the context it was meant to be read in. it really does not condemn homosexuality at all. try learning for yourself. if you are going to use the Bible then learn it and not go by someone else’s opinion. otherwise you will be gravely misinformed. and that is a sad thing. I wish you well.

The supreme court of the USA is made up of imperfect people who make imperfect decisions and choices, they are prone to err as they have so clearly demonstrated in their decision on same sex marriage. Unfortunately many of their wrong decisions and choices have devastating affects on America and on the lives of millions of people.

Christians are also imperfect people who have erred in life also, however, a true Christian will turn away from their old worldly lifestyle and start following and obeying the teachings of Jesus Christ who is perfect and He makes the right decisions and choices for our country and its citizens.

In the end Jesus Christ will return and rule over the earth, those who denied Him and His authority will face the great white thrown judgement where every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, unfortunately it is to late for them and they will all perish.

Those who chose Jesus as Lord and Savior and obeyed Him will live…

Steven is correct, and Nick is (exceedingly) incorrect.

In the context in which it was written, Scripture unambiguously condemns the practice on homosexuality as an egregious sin in more than half a dozen places and in many verses.

Judaism and the Church have understood this for more than 4500 years. It is only in the last few decades that the lost culture has tried to change the forthright meaning of Scripture.

  • Bruce427

I read an article some years ago that stated the panel (6 members, I believe it was) were all either homosexuals or homosexual affirming.

  • Larry

In most cases it is a waste of time trying to tell a pro gay marriage person about the errors of the whole concept. Nick, you are so wrong in your interpretation of scripture. I am stuck by how close you came to the truth, yet somehow you missed it! Two facts are abundantly clear – God really loves mankind (more than we can comprehend) and homosexuality is soundly condemned. I might add, there is a list of other condemned acts that are often overlooked when we choose to do our own thing.

Let’s keep in mind when the Bible was written. Look at the advancements society has made in that time. Why do we keep looking to the Bible as the “go to” document on who should be condemned. The Bible says a great deal of things that can be misconstrued, but religious people are very selective on what they wish to follow.

I for one would love for some of these people to pick up medical text books and review variations in sex characteristics. There is a great deal of gray area in the world, it cannot all be distilled to the wrong or right world of religion.

  • Scientific thought

Okay, here’s the thing with all of these hateful comments. Apparently we never learned from our mistakes with the race issue about Hate! While and African Americans are still on opposite sides of the same fence in most cases (the poor house)! Now being a straight White male with a wife and three children here at home I have absolutely no issues with same sex marriage. My wife and I have gay friends as well as lesbian friends which we feel to each their own! I was raised Christian but found that the scientific analysis of this planet proved that every single living thing came from the ocean, with that being said it is impossible for me to believe that some God controls everything, and my uncle is a preacher as was my grandfather so Christians don’t waste my time or yours by responding. I say let the (homosexual community) have their rights and stay out of their homes!
