Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr., Church of God in Christ (COGIC) presiding bishop and pastor of the West Angeles Church is celebrating his 75th birthday with a special birthday service.

On Friday, July 31, 2015 at 7 pm, ecumenical and civic leaders, celebrities, friends, family and a host of well-wishers will converge on the West Angeles Cathedral, 3600 Crenshaw Blvd. Los Angeles, CA to say happy birthday to Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

For the past forty-six years, Bishop Blake has been the pastor of West Angeles COGIC in South Los Angeles. This 25,000-member congregation is one of the largest churches in the metropolitan area. His leadership as a pastor, influence in the community, and integral character has garnered him praise and admonition from around the globe.

During the past eight years, Bishop Blake has also served as leader of the Church of God in Christ, the oldest and largest African-American Pentecostal denomination with 6.5 million members worldwide.

Bishop Blake says, “I am humbled and overwhelmed by the amount of love and support that is being shown to me upon this milestone of turning seventy-five years old. I am taking this as an opportunity to provide a legacy for the generations that will come after me,” he added. “Thus, all of the proceeds from my birthday celebration will go toward the diminishing of the West Angeles Cathedral mortgage.”

Rick Warren, Pastor of Saddleback Church and best selling author of the Purpose Driven Life, is the guest speaker for the evening. Attendees include West Angeles members and celebration co-chairman Earvin “Magic” Johnson and wife Cookie, actors Courtney Vance and wife Angela Bassett, Samuel and LaTonya Jackson, Miguel Nunez, Judge Mabelean Ephraim, Archbishop Jose Gomez, Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, and COGIC First Assistant Presiding Bishop P.A. Brooks, just to name a few.

Special musical guest includes Grammy Award-winning gospel music artist, Smoke Norful. For more information, go to www.cogic.org or www.westa.org.
