Each World Meeting of Families has a theme that energizes and enlivens the event while providing great depth of meaning to our understanding of families. The theme of the World Meeting of Families, held in Philadelphia this year, is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,” which emphasizes the impact of the love and life of families on our society.

ABOUT THE SPOKESPERSONS:

Dr. Janet Smith holds the Father Michael J. McGivney Chair of Life Ethics at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. She is the author of Living the Truth in Love: Pastoral Approaches to Same-Sex Attraction, Humanae Vitae: A Generation Later and The Right to Privacy, and the editor of Why Humanae Vitae Was Right: A Reader. Prof. Chris Kaczor and Prof. Smith co-authored Life Issues, Medical Choices, Questions and Answers for Catholics. Her articles have been published in many academic journals, and she has been a regular columnist for the National Catholic Register and blogs on CatholicVote.com.

She is serving a third term as a consulter to the Pontifical Council on the Family, and serves the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian unity as a member of the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission III and as representative to the Faith and Order Commission for the World. She has received two honorary doctorates and several other awards for scholarship and service.

Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, known worldwide as the “Dynamic Deacon,” is one of the most sought-after speakers in the Catholic Church today. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master of theological studies from the University of Dallas.
