New York, New York, January 8, 2013- After 25 years as the founding chair of the National Interfaith Cable Coalition (NICC), America’s largest multifaith media organization, the Reverend Dr. Daniel P. Matthews, former rector of Trinity Church Wall Street, has announced his retirement.
Dr. Matthews will continue to serve as chair emeritus of the non-profit organization, which has 159 member organizations representing 124 million Americans. . NICC, which does business as Odyssey Networks, began as a cable television entity, but in recent years, has expanded into the Internet, mobile and e-publishing platforms to deliver its mission of using video to promote tolerance and enrich spiritual life.
To succeed Dr. Matthews, the NICC Board of Trustees has elected The Reverend Dr. James P. Wind, president of the Alban Institute, a major independent center of learning and leadership development based in greater Washington, D.C., with a focus on congregations and their challenges in contemporary America. He assumed his new role on January 1, 2013.
“Odyssey Networks plays a creative and increasingly important role in helping the religious communities of this country tell their stories and understand each other,” said Dr. Wind on his election. “It is founded on 25 years of pioneering efforts to use cutting edge media to explore the spiritual dimensions of life and to produce high quality media products that demonstrate the constructive and indispensable role of faith communities in our lives. I am honored to play a small role in supporting that important mission.”
Prior to joining Alban in 1995, Dr. Wind, who is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, was Program Director, Religion Division, at Lilly Endowment. He is the former Chair of the Chapter of the Washington National Cathedral and is currently a Member of the Chapter. A NICC trustee since 2006, he also serves on the board of directors of the Indianapolis Center for Congregations and the advisory board of PBS’s Religion & Ethics News Weekly. He is the author of two books and co-editor of five, and has written numerous articles and reviews. His column, The Leading Edge, is published in Congregations magazine.
