(Denver) — The inaugural meeting of the Society of Race, Ethnicity, and Religion (SRER) will take place April 26-28 in Chicago at the Lutheran School of Theology’s McCormick Theological Seminary.
The SRER is the first ever multi-discipline, multi-racial, and multi-ethnic gathering of religion scholars committed to the cross-pollination of religious ideas and concepts contextualized within marginalized and disenfranchised communities. The purpose of this new Society is to create an academic space where communities of color can gather to discuss among themselves so as to advance their scholarship though the power of synergism – a space to engage, learn, and be challenged from communities of color other than one’s own.
Plenary speakers include: James Cone, Shawn Copeland, Barbara Mann, Kwok Pui-Lan,
Fernando Segovia, and George Tinker.
