Kansas City, MO – National Catholic Reporter, an independent Catholic news organization, today launched Global Sisters Report, an online reporting project that gives greater voice to Catholic sisters around the world.

Through its website, GlobalSistersReport.org, the project brings together a worldwide network of editors and reporters. The site also features columns from sisters themselves, designed to highlight the diverse ministries in which sisters are active.

The project is funded by a three-year $2.3 million grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and is the first reporting initiative dedicated exclusively to Catholic sisters.

“The work of these women religious is one of the least-told stories in our church,” said Tom Fox, NCR’s publisher and the project’s director. “It’s really an exciting challenge to bring these stories and voices to greater awareness. It also recognizes the changing nature of our global church.”

In addition to producing original reporting, Global Sisters Report will publish columns, blogs and multimedia features intended to present a realistic portrait of Catholic sisters in a changing world. The website is a growing effort and will continue to add features in the months ahead. Resources and opportunities for dialogue will allow sisters to build and enhance their own communication networks.

Global Sisters Report is a dynamic web community,” said Managing Editor Mary Lou Nolan. “Our journalists report on sisters’ lives in a complicated world and — just as important — sisters speak for themselves.”

Global Sisters Report also can be found on Facebook (Facebook.com/SistersReport) and Twitter (@SistersReport).
