Trump says evangelicals will love his Supreme Court pick

WASHINGTON (Reuters) President Donald Trump said on Friday (Jan. 27) that evangelical Christians would love his choice to fill an open seat on the Supreme Court, adding that he is pretty certain who it will be but "not 100 percent."

"I think the person I pick will be big, big," Trump said, according to a partial transcript of a Christian Broadcasting Network interview set to air in full on Sunday. "I think evangelicals, Christians will love my pick."

Trump has said he would make his decision this week and announce it next Thursday.

Comments

  1. Replacing Scalia will not lead to the overturning of Roe v Wade or other goals of evangelicals.

  2. Don’t rub things in their faces Donald. That isn’t nice and won’t win you friends. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

  3. Luke 18:27 But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

  4. There are legal precedents established and are strengthened over time. No Republican administration has overturned Roe v Wade in 42 years. The SCOTUS, with Scalia, didn’t overturn it. Trump needs a liberal judge to die or retire and a conservative put in their place. That’s still no guarantee as some conservative judges have surprised us with their votes. So it is possible in the future.

  5. He’s only putting the court back to where it was before Scalia. Nothing will change unless Trump’s choice doesn’t vote as expected. That has happened before in the court.

  6. Religion has NO business coming between a woman, ANY woman, and her physician. Further, so-called “Christians” pushed for voter suppression, gutting Civil Rights, want “creationism” taught as science in PUBLIC schools, demand that TAXPAYER dollars fund private and parochial schools. Further still, so-called “Christians” want to codify laws allowing discrimination to be LEGAL! The United States of America was founded on SECULAR principles for a reason!

  7. If they actually did away with abortion, they would be cutting off a major source of power, money, and dominion. It is not in the republican interest to do away with abortion. That’s why we still have it.

  8. Meaning no one else will! THis is not a theocracy!

  9. The seat rightfully belongs to Merrick Garland.

  10. For Republicans “Roe Vs Wade” has been some of the best legislation every passed, which will be the same for Democrats if its overturned. Now many Women will be very angry, but its an issue that consistently garners a certain number of christian conservative votes no matter what the state of the nation. Ironically this may be the reason it won’t be overturned because … Matthew 25:40 “the least of these” would be the worst thing for neocons who don’t like “welfare” or even the idea of government handouts to the poor unless they can find a way to profit from it. Killing babies and unborn babies is difficult to justify from any religious point of view, although from an Elitist, Globalist point of view it is a necessity. It looks like it will take two supreme court justices to make it happen.

  11. The US is made of more than just Evangelicals, and our secular constitution deserves someone to look at the rulings with everyone in mind.

  12. Red States have passed numerous laws designed to close down clinics and deter doctors from performing abortions. If a women cannot afford to travel long distances in those states, they cannot get abortions.

  13. That’s a moot point. We have to worry about the future and hope no one else leaves SCOTUS before Trump’s reign is over.

  14. Presumably that means a sizeable measure of the public will hate it.

  15. I think that hope unlikely, unless Mr. Trump himself doesn’t last four years.

  16. Nor does it in any way reflect one, if one understands the proper definition of the term.

  17. As long as its mother’s being murdered then, you are all for it apparently.

  18. You think he cares about how to get along with people?

  19. His actions and speech tend to show that he only cares if it affects his bottom line.

  20. Abortion restrictions lead to higher maternal death rates, injuries which haven’t been seen since 1973, and enable illegal and dangerous hacks like Kermit Gosnell who injure and kill women who do not have access to safe and medically sound clinics.

Facts make you cry Sandi. That is why you avoid them at all costs.

  21. Abortion is murder Spud. You can try to justify it in any means possible. It is still murder.

  22. You have to be born to be murdered. The Bible does not recognize life in gestation but at its first breath.

  23. yes it does spud. John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit while in the womb.
Samson’s mother was told what to eat and drink because her child was going to be a Nazarene.
Mary was told she would be carrying: ” “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end”

  24. 1. Not meant as literal.
    2. Not actually in the Bible. No mention of Nazarenes in Judges.
    3. He wasn’t to be called Jesus in the womb. He had to be born first

  25. No one should expect otherwise. That said, I suspect the President is merely throwing his evangelical constituents a bone. It’s not as if his appointee will singlehandedly shift the balance of the court.

  26. For the president this is all just a game, a ratings thing. “I think the person I pick will be big, big,” Trump said, according to a partial transcript of a Christian Broadcasting Network interview set to air in full on Sunday. “I think evangelicals, Christians will love my pick.”

This is just like a press release to tout an upcoming tv show or movie. He couldn’t care less about right wing Christians, women, fetuses or any other stuff. It’s all about his self-gratification and nothing gratifies him like believing he is wildly popular. In his little bubble he thinks he is because Bannon, Conwoman, and the rest of that NaziKKK bunch tell him so.

  27. That’s entirely debatable, but I’m not prepared to do so at this time.
