Pence defends Trump as champion of Catholic values

WASHINGTON (RNS) Vice President Mike Pence — a onetime altar boy who became an evangelical Protestant — proclaimed President Trump a faithful supporter of Catholic values at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, an event that sought to set aside any friction between the president and the pope.

"Let me promise all of you, this administration hears you. This president stands with you," Pence said to the 1,300 gathered.

Pence's address at the annual breakfast Tuesday (June 6) took place less than two weeks after Pope Francis received Trump at the Vatican, where the president was strongly urged — unsuccessfully — to keep the U.S. commitment to the Paris climate accords.

The pope and Trump have also clashed on immigration and refugees; during last year's presidential campaign, Francis even seemed to question whether Trump was a Christian.

But Pence told the breakfast crowd that Trump is a leader for the issues they care about most: protection of the unborn, religious freedom and Christians suffering for their faith in the Middle East.

"Our administration is fully committed to bringing relief and comfort to believers in that ancient land, and under President Donald Trump, America will continue to condemn persecution of any faith in any place at any time. We will confront it with all of our might."

Terrorists, he added, seem to "harbor a special hatred for the followers of Christ."

On abortion, Pence said to extended applause: "I couldn't be more proud to serve as vice president to a president who stands without apology for the sanctity of human life. Since day one of this administration, President Donald Trump has been keeping his promise to stand for life, and life is winning in America again."

Pence, noted, among other policy changes, Trump's blocking of federal funds to nonprofits abroad that provide abortions, and his signing of a law that gives states the right to deny funding to Planned Parenthood, the women's health care nonprofit that provides abortions.

Trump's public position on abortion has changed over the years. He once supported abortion rights but ran his presidential campaign fully in the anti-abortion camp.

For those conservative Catholics uncomfortable with Trump, Pence has provided a great deal of reassurance.

Abortion foes tout Pence's unblemished voting record in Congress and as governor of Indiana on the issue.

In that state, he signed the Religion Freedom Restoration Act, a law that allowed businesses and individuals to refuse to do business with some people based on their own religious beliefs — such as the baker who didn't want to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. Pence signed a revised version of the law under pressure from major corporations, organizations and celebrities who vowed to boycott Indiana.

Some at the breakfast said the tension between the pope and Trump has been overplayed.

"Of course there are probably some differences in viewpoints, but we are one in the foundations," said Bernadette Michael, an American originally from London who said she is thrilled with the new administration's support for the unborn.

"Now we have a voice again," she said, contrasting Trump and Pence to former President Obama, a staunch abortion-rights supporter.

The Catholic Church opposes abortion and same-sex marriage, though many American Catholics do not share the church's position, particularly on gay marriage. Neither Pence nor other speakers raised the marriage issue at the breakfast.

Catholics split their votes in November between Republicans Trump and Pence and Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine (whose views of his Catholicism align closely with Pope Francis').

Older, conservative Catholics — and, judging by the applause when Pence invoked Trump, those gathered at the 13th National Catholic Prayer breakfast —  preferred the GOP ticket.

Younger and Hispanic Catholics sided with Clinton and Kaine.

Trump, who spoke in February at the larger National Prayer Breakfast, an event organized by evangelicals, had been invited to the Catholic breakfast. A spokeswoman for the event said organizers had not asked early enough to allow the president to fit it into his schedule.

But Pence, who spoke at length about his Catholic upbringing, was perhaps a better fit than Trump, who was raised a Presbyterian and embarrassed some at the National Prayer Breakfast by insulting Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Pence, who has called himself a "born-again, evangelical Catholic," joked at length about his eight years of "hard time" in Catholic school and how "the name Sister Rachel still sends a shiver down my spine." He called his Catholic upbringing an "eternal foundation" and noted that he went to Mass with his mother over the weekend.

"I was not only baptized in the church but I was confirmed and I stand today before you as Michael Richard Christopher Pence," he said.

But Pence refrained from calling himself a Catholic. Briefly, he noted, his faith journey had taken him and his family "in a different direction."

Pence is the first vice president to address the breakfast, though former President George W. Bush was a keynoter for four years of his presidency.

Also keynoting this year’s National Catholic Prayer Breakfast were Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Military Services USA and Mother Olga, a nun who lived through four wars in her native Iraq and is now an American citizen.

The nun invoked the Mayflower Pilgrims when she spoke of the promise of America, and she advised Americans to speak up about their faith in the public square.

There is “a hesitation to speak about God, even in the simplest ways, such as saying ‘God bless you’ when somebody sneezes,” she said. “We are afraid to have religious symbols in public offices or to talk publicly about religious values in our daily lives.”

  1. I can’t remember where Jesus said, “These are the issues you should care about,” and sent his disciples out to use the mechanisms of power to fight for them. I think Mr. Pence is just fundamentally wrong about what it means to be a Christian.

Paul speaks more pointedly than I would, but I can’t help thinking of the beginning of 2 Timothy, 3.

“You must understand this, that in the last days distressing times will come. 2 For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, brutes, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to the outward form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid them!”

  2. “… lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, brutes, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” Sounds like a list of the various cauci at a Republican convention. Not to say Democrats are perfect, of course.
Abortion should be a private matter. It occurs at the same rate whether it is legal or illegal and efforts to criminalize it are solely based on desires to punish women such advocates believe themselves to be better than.

  3. What about the Catholic values of lotsa money, lotsa gold stuff, lotsa money to charity, adultery, Fornication, divorce, multiple marriages, and palaces?

  4. What a bunch of miserable losers on these comments.

  5. Those are not Catholic values. But they probably are yours. People like you see their own faults in others. It’s a demonic Alinsky tactic.

  6. “…and sent his disciples out to use the mechanisms of power to fight for…”

Christ, the disciples and the prophets were killed by “the mechanisms of power” – depraved preachers and greedy politicians alike, for exposing them and breaking their ‘laws’.

and here is where I must insert my paste…

Isaiah 1:23 Your leaders are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loves gifts, and follow after rewards: they deny justice to the fatherless, neither does the plight of the widow come to them.

Prov 22:16 They oppress the people to increase their riches, and they give to the rich… Isa 56:11 …they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter (district). Rom 16:18 …they serve their own belly; and by GOOD words and FAIR speeches deceive the minds of the simple.

Psa 26:10 In whose hands is mischief, and their right hand (priority) is full of bribes. Amos 5:7 They turn justice to bitterness, and neglect whats right… 5:12 they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the people from whats right.

Ezekiel 33:31 They come to you as the people come …they hear your words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their greed. Psa 5:9 They flatter with their tongue. There is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is truly wicked; their throat is an open tomb. Psa 12:2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbor: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

2 Peter2:19 They speak great swelling words of pride, they manipulate using the desires of the people, through much wantonness… While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption…

1Tim 6:5 Perverse men of corrupt minds, destitute of the Truth, supposing that gain is godliness… 2 Tim 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth. Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

2 Peter 2:12 …but these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: a mind they have exercised with greedy practices; cursed men… and on and on it goes.

Jeremiah 9:3 They bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the Truth; they proceed from evil to evil, and they dont know Good …they deceive every one, and will not speak the Truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and exhaust themselves in greed. Their habitation is in the midst of deceit; because of deceit they refuse to know Good …their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaks deceit: he speaks peaceably to neighbors, but in his mind he lays their wait…

Ephesians 5:11 Have no association with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

Amos 5:15 Hate the evil, love the good and establish justice: it may be that God will be gracious to you.

John 7:7 The world hates me because I expose it, that the works thereof are evil.

  7. If abortion were a private matter, it should not be funded by the government. Planned Parenthood should not be funded by taxpayers money. Let women buy their own contraceptives and let them pay for the killing of their own babies.

  8. Wait a minute. Abortion is not funded by the government. Funding for Planned Parenthood specifically excludes abortion services. Not a nickel of government grants to PP pay for abortion. The only rubric by which someone may claim otherwise would be Medicaid/Medicare which only pays when the health of the woman would be adversely affected by carrying a pregnancy to term. The cases where that occurs are few.

  9. Abortion is, and always will be murder.

  10. That may be your personal opinion but it is not and never has been society’s. “Murder” specifically refers to the willful ending of the life of someone who has been born, and always has. It may sound good to you, but it’s not a rational concept. It’s merely rhetoric. Those who created the slogan know better. they just use it to manipulate people.

  11. Sure. The half billion dollars the butchers get from the taxpayer all go for pap smears and mammograms. You are either a fool or a scoundrel.

Why would government money be needed to pay for the slaughter of children? For people who can’t afford to pay for it out of their own pockets; i.e. the poor and mostly black. That’s the train you’re on. Congratulations.

  12. Abortion is the most vile form of murder. You are taking the life of a defenseless, voiceless human being. Slaughtering an innocent child. Next to deicide it is the most despicable crime ever committed by humanity; murdering your own unborn children so that you can continue to worship at the altar of self-indulgence. It is human sacrifice at the depths of barbarism.

  13. Actually the bulk of government funding of Planned Parenthood is for birth control. No one is proposing government funding of abortion in the current political atmosphere, so your assertions are irrelevant. PP only gets a half a billion from the feds? Dang that’s not enough. I will have to up my contribution. Thank you for the reminder.

  14. More meaningless rhetoric. Nothing factual here, just baseless assertions. Say hello to Cheryl Sullenberger.

  15. At the Last Judgment both Trump and Pence will be asked these questions: Where were you President Trump and Vice-President Trump when I was hungry, when I was naked? Where were you President Tump and Vice-President Trump when I needed you to be Good Stewards and stop burning coal to save God’s Creation?

  16. You forgot Trump’s immoral values like cheating the working man out of fair wages and cheating students seeking a college education and cheating the donors of money intended to go to hospitals for needy children.

  17. The meeting between Trump and the pope was “cordial” according to Vatican and White House press releases. They discussed “religious liberty” i.e. keeping tax payer funding for Catholic agencies, schools, hospitals even though they discriminate against women and the LGBTQ community. Here’s a photo of the pope smiling when face-to-face with Trump.
Catholics DID NOT “split their votes.” The ANES 2016 Time Series Study began in early September and continued into January, 2017. The exit polls of 55,000 voters showed 60% of white Catholics chose Trump, enough for him to win Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan – the states which decided his victory.

  18. There is not one word in Scripture, or in all of Catholic Social Teaching, that says that it is a duty of government to provide people with food, shelter, or clothing. It is the duty of people to provide those things for people who cannot provide for themselves.

  19. Right. I didn’t put any water in the left-hand end of the bathtub. I just put water in the right-hand end of the bathtub.

  20. If abortion were a private matter, it should not be funded by the government.

    Nor is it right now.

  21. You are either a fool or a scoundrel.
Read Matthew 5:22 to prevent yourself from going to hell.

  22. Pence’s definition of Catholic values: ““I did try and f##k her. She was married… I moved on her like a b###h, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married”.

  23. According to Mike Pence, in this article those are just the values both Trump and the Catholic Church embrace. People like yourself gave up any pretension of representing morals and ethics by supporting serial adulterer, cheat, and bigot Trump. You have no values other then “I’ve got mine, up yours”

Alinsky? Really? Still trying to get mileage out of invoking his name as a boogeyman? Can you be a bigger wingnut cliche?

  24. That and “discrimination is the privilege of Christians” as seen when he was Governor of Indiana.

  25. A slogan for the ignorant. PP gets none of the money for abortion. It goes to patients receiving other services to compensate them. You know that already and you persist in such dishonesty.

Moreover, if it’s not your body, it’s none of your business. It’s not like you have any concern for those already born. So why should your type be taken seriously about the unborn?

  26. We are not a government of, for and by the people? One representing our will?

Jesus said people had a duty to the poor. We are the government.

BTW the Roman occupiers of 1St century Judea already had a system for care of the poor 🙂

  27. “That’s the train you’re on. Congratulations”

Keeping people from being mired in poverty by enabling family planning choices? All aboard! Toot! Toot!

  28. Actual Catholics understand that President Trump is our friend. Only lefty Nuchurch “catholics” question his conduct.

  29. Spoken like a true Democrat, although perhaps out of place with most Texans! How DARE you judge anyone’s spirituality by their politics! You have NO IDEA how many people either President Trump or Vice President Pence has provided with nourishment when they were hungry or thirsty, or provided clothing when they didn’t have any, or visited when behind bars!

Let’s not EVEN go into how many Democrats try to help God save God’s Universe by refraining from buring fossil fuels–the very resource coming from the ground that we once considered a big gift from God, that totally revolutionized our lives across the decades by providing medicines, fertilizers, electricity and transportation that wasn’t possible using whale oil!

  30. Corporal Works of Mercy
Feed the Hungry-Trump/Pence: Cut food stamps, school lunch, and Meals on Wheels
Give Drink to the Thirsty-Trump/Pence: Roll back the Clean Water Act which protect US drinking water
Shelter the Homeless-Trump/Pence: Cut $6 Billion from HUD and eliminate all housing assistance programs and Community Development Block Grants
Visit the Sick-Trump/Pence: Repeal Affordable Care Act causing 23 million to lose coverage, waive pre-existing conditions and basic coverage protections, and make older Americans pay 5x more.
Bury the Dead: Trump/Pence: see above. Lack of accessible health coverage can literally kill you.
Visit the Prisoners-Trump/Pence: Reinstitute failed policies which will increase the already highest per capita in the world prison population and guarantee payments in excess of $34 billion to private prison companies which have a questionable human rights record to house them.
Give Alms to the Poor-Trump/Pence: Give tax breaks to the rich.

  31. The older language some of us learned had one of the Corporal Works of Mercy phrased as:
    Welcome the Stranger….

  32. Pence, the ex-Catholic turned fundamentalist, and Trump, the thrice married ignorant childish narcissist awful oaf in the Offal Office, as defenders of Catholic values? That would make Jesus throw up. — Edd Doerr

  33. I am a Catholic. Daily Mass, rosary, support life from natural conception to natural end, etc. I support this subtle message of the President by sending the vice president in his place.

To most US Bishops and the professional ‘katholic’ class………….. Be Catholic ! not neo-katholic. Of course, that might endanger the $$$ coming from the feds

    1. Marxism and socialism were condemned by popes up and through Benedict XVI;

    2. climate change due to human activity is hardly minimal but is rather a scheme to redistribute wealth – Marxist style. Check out
    3. Further, check out St Thomas Aquinas on the moral aspects of immigration

  34. The comment below by “senzie” kind of says it all. I don’t blame people for voting for Trump as a way to stop Hilary. But to think Trump is some kind of Christian hero? During the election I told my pro-Trump Catholic friends to try to imagine Trump reading aloud the Sermon on the Mount. It’s impossible. Blessed are the meek? Losers! Blessed are those who mourn? Crybabies!

  35. No one is criticizing Trump for his “good works” but rather because of the power he holds and his misuse of such power he is causing great suffering and death (remember “to whom much is given, much is expected”) and so he is rightly held in our democracy to a higher standard accountable to “We, the People” from which he was entrusted with that power to do good (or in his case, evil). Also, you really don’t have a viable response to Trump’s abject failure to be a Good Steward of God’s Creation and the fact that he is poisoning the very air and water God gave us to be good stewards of, do you? By the way I am an anti-abortion Democrat (except in the case of rape or incest or a genuine threat to the woman’s life) which anti-abortion stance is about the only Christian element of the Religious Right which is otherwise nothing but political and without any biblical or moral basis except on the issue of abortion. The Right to Life is NOT a single issue but one that spans the entire spectrum of life from conception to the resurrection and the GOP has little respect for human life once we leave the womb and if they supported FDR’s “Second Bill of Rights” (e.g. universal health care, living wages, full employment, etc.), which they will never do because they are the pawns of big business and the super-rich, there would be far less abortions than even when abortions were illegal in this country!

  36. Just as Saudi oil replaced whale oil, Saudi oil needs to be replaced with good job and good health creating clean energy independence for America and to help save the very planet God created for us. You should be asking for answers to the following questions from your Republican Members of Congress: Why is America in the Middle East? Why are American taxpayers other than the super-rich still being forced to sacrificially pay from the earnings of their hard work the Chinese loans of the needless $7 trillion Iraqi War that should have been only fought, if at all, and only paid for by Europe and the Saudis and maybe Turkey and Israel? Those countries should have the only national security interest in fighting ISIS not domestic oil and gas and wind and solar abundant America. Why did the Republicans lift the ban on exporting that domestic oil and gas to foreign countries? Why are Republicans beating the drums of war in the Middle East? To drive up the price of oil for their international oil company patrons, that’s why! Why do American taxpayers pay every year, as 2008 GOP presidential primary candidate, Jon Huntsman, argued without rebuttal at the Reagan Library debats, the equivalent of $9 per gallon of gasoline over the posted price at the pump to provide free security for treasury hoarding, tax avoiding, planet killing, freeloading international oil companies in the Middle East? Why are we not investing those same dollars to make America 100% independent of Middle East oil with good job creating U.S. domestic environmentally regulated natural gas and wind and solar energy systems for real national and economic security and to protect the health of our citizens and the life of our planet? That, combined with a Israelis type wall along our borders at a cost of less than 2 months cash flow cost of that needless Iraqi War that only served to protect international oil companies and paved the way for ISIS and starting to spend more on butter than guns in the Middle East and other areas of poverty in the world! They will not give you an honest fact based answer becauseyour Republican Members of Congress do not really consider you a constituent – big corporations, including foreign and domestic corporations and the super-rich are their only true constituents and the corporate and wealthy elite keep them under their thumb thanks to the SCOTUS ruling in Citizens United wrongfully making corporations “people” and corporate money “free political speech” giving corporations the unfettered right to secretly spend unlimited money on deceptive political attack ads to defeat lawmakers not serving their self-aggrandizing interests which are rarely the interests of working families and small businesses in America! Go out and join Move to Amend to repeal Citizens United and take back your government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” and “people” that are living human beings and not corporate entities our Founding Fathers feared and understood were only legal fictions created by our elected lawmakers to aid in the development of investment and commerce and nothing more!

  37. Also go review Pence’s voting record in the Congress as an elected representative and as Vice-President and his veto and legislative record as a Governor and you will see why he agreed to be Trump’s right hand man.

  38. There is NO parallel with Catholic moral theology and Donald Trump. None. Nada. I spent a wonderful few months reading moral theology in grad school. I’m not Catholic, not even Christian, but I was inspired by what I found there. Trump is a moral nightmare and ithe has nothing to do with his behavior while naked. His values are monstrous.

  39. The second shortest verse…and Jesus barfed.

  40. 1. Socialism is not Marxism. The RCC never condemned a social safety net in a democracy setting. Far from it. They generally support it. is not a source for scientific info. Try on the subject. Nothing wrong with redistribution of wealth which was acquired through corrupt methods. Class warfare already exists. The uppermost wealthy have been successfully waging it against people who work for a living for decades.

    3. Beneficent treatment of strangers in ones midst is the oldest custom in western civilization. First addressed in the Bible with Sodom and Gomorrah. Cities whose sins were not homosexuality, but inhospitable behavior. The worst taboo of the region. is a reactionary wingnut site.

  41. “Big Brother is your friend!”

Evidently the overwhelming majority of Catholics are not really of the church. Unless convenient to claim so.

  42. But there’s been no use of government funding of PP for abortion. It does not happen. Those grants are audited and the audits ensure it doesn’t happen.

  43. I’ll respond to all three of you:

I’m usually not one to “suffer fools gladly,” but you all seem to be sincere in your love for the downtrodden and the environment, therefore your string of criticisms and major beefs with the stewardship of President Trump and Vice President Spence regardung these matters.

As an undergraduate in college, I took a psychology course where I learned about projection. Speaking rather simply here, projection happens because of the human tendency to place on the shoulders of others the responsibility for those vital things that either they themselves, or others are managling rather poorly. Instead, they need to place that responsibility for the mismagement and failure on the shoulders of those who were in a good position to have made a difference..

I believe projection is what’s in play here. All–or at least, some of you, are becoming frustrated and impatient with the human progress the US has made with poverty, degradation of the environment, the proliferation of easy abortion and the occurrence of war and violence. Therefore it’s far too easy for each of us to project all these bad things and many others, onto President Trump and Vice President Spence and their lack of stewardship and control of things. To you, they represent the Republican party and the evil corporations, super-rich, yada-yada-yada.

The responsiblility of these things REALLY lies with “we, the people.”
Who is responsible for helping feed and house the poor? WE ARE!

Who is responsible tor cleaning up the environment for now and future generations? Again, WE ARE!

Who’s responsible for women getting pregnant and keeping their babies when they are not able to take care of them and give them a good education? To some degree or other, WE ARE!

Who is responsible for violence and war? Again, to some degree or other, WE ARE!

As the famous comic strip Pogo said, “We’ve met the enemy, and it’s US!

One political party projects their crap onto the other, and vice versa. It doesn’t matter much who is president and vice president. By themselves, the past top officers of the US government weren’t able to change these vital things, nor can the future ones make much difference with them either. A Marxist government might posses that kind of power, but they don’t have a very good record of weilding it in favor of causes bigger than their bloated bureaucracies and political cronies!

Only by becoming involved and active in various aggressive movements that represent these causes can the CITIZENS of the US collectively make a difference!

I pray that happens, and very soon! .

  44. Unfortunately the media is too partisan to bring to public awareness the existence of third party and independent presidential candidates that could have been better options

  45. They didn’t let them show up on the debates. The debates would mean more if people got to see and hear from all the available candidates

  46. You’re right. I know CNN gave the Libertarian Party a town hall but McMullin got nothing. Then again, his party was very very small.

  47. Just saying, but I think I know what’s happening here: Trump goes full term, then rewards his VP by endorsing Pence’s presidency in 2020 (by which time the Democratic Party shall remain as same-old, same-old and fateful as Hillary Clinton’s recent bid to govern the republic).

No wonder Trump & Pence work nicely together, unlike JFK & Johnson, or Reagan & Bush, because, like you said, Lauren Markoe, all that the US vice president does, is say (and, hmm, who knows, actually means what he says?) in public stuffs like:

    (1) “This president stands with you”; (2) “Trump is a leader for the issues (you) care about most”; (3) “Under President Donald Trump, America will continue to” do so and so (whatever); (4) “I couldn’t be more proud to serve as vice president to a president who stands without apology for” this and that (whatever); and (5) “President Donald Trump has been keeping his promise to” accomplish X, Y and Z (whatever).

  48. In the U.S. the government is supposed to be “of the people, by the people, and for the people” and so the policies of our government should be the policies decided by real living human beings elected by and accountable and responsive to the people. You will not admit that but then again given your ideological view you are probably one of those right wingers that believes that, as ruled by the 5-4 GOP vote on the SCOTUS in Citizens United, corporation are people just as much as living human beings and that the unlimited money of corporations is free political speech and that it is perfectly acceptable to have corporations secretly fund deceptive political attack ads for their own self-serving agenda not in the public interest thereby disenfranchising voters through misinformation and gaining iron hand rule over elected lawmakers at all levels.

  49. P.S. Read “World Hunger A Challenge for All: Development in Solidarity” prepared at the request of Pope John Paul II and read the environmental encyclical by Pope Francis entitled “On Care for Our Common Home” given to and ignored by Donald Trump. Donald Trump is serving Red China and Mafiosa like Russia by failing to make America the leader in clean energy manufacturing and in establishing a clean energy economy no longer dependent on foreign oil especially in the powder keg called the Middle East where every year America taxpayers pay the equivalent of $9 per gallon of gasoline over the posted price at the pump to provide international oil companies with free security including the oil company once headed by Trump’s now Secretary of State and when he received the “Friend of Russia” medal winner pinned on his chest by Putin himself, Rex Tillerson. Also read the Documents of Vatican II complete with it many footnotes regarding the biblical basis for its principles.

  50. “White Catholics.” I guess nowhite Catholics don’t count. And since trump and Pence support efforts to disenfranchise minorities, they don’t want them to count.

  51. Revolutionized our lives but put the planet at risk.

  52. I have no idea what you are saying. You must be a lefty.

  53. “Go and do thou likewise.”
“Go and impress thy brother into service to perform thy will and thereby claim to be virtuous.”
You lefty hypocrites have so much difficulty understanding basic concepts.

  54. I am sure you don’t. Ignorance and lack of critical thinking skills is a common trait. Especially people who use the phrase, “you must be a lefty”.

I am a southpaw but that is irrelevant unless you are trying to sell me used golf clubs or baseball mitts.

  55. Yes, indeed, ignorance is common among lefties. Thanks for verifying my intuition on that. Your lack of coherence was a good clue.

  56. Dunning Kruger effect is quite evident in your posts. 🙂

  57. Sorry. I don’t care to know any more about your mental illness. Have a nice day, you font of Christian charity.

  58. Yes, excellent…for a lying, anti Christian communist.

  59. I resent the association with Christianity.

Speaking of charity, have you read the report about how Eric Trump stole money meant to go towards children with cancer?

  60. Then I assume you oppose all government funding of church-connected charitable, non-profit or educational programs, right?

  61. The Mayflower Pilgrims wanted religious freedom for themselves alone, not for anyone else.
