SAN FRANCISCO — The Supreme Court announced today, in a landmark 6-3 vote, that it has overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, effectively leaving the legality of abortion to individual states.

Hoye II is both founder and president of the Issues4Life Foundation, the California Civil Rights Foundation, founder of the Frederick Douglass Foundation of California, core member of the National Black Pro-Life Coalition and a board member of The Morning Center, which was founded to provide free full-service maternity care for women in urban and under-served areas. On Friday, March 20, 2009, fifteen months after the City of Oakland, California, passed a law making it illegal to approach a woman entering an abortion clinic without her consent, Hoye II unjustly went to jail for standing on a public sidewalk outside an abortion clinic with a sign saying, “God loves you and your baby. Let us help you.” The ordained Baptist minister could have accepted a lesser sentence of community service, provided he agreed never to return to the clinic. But he preferred spending thirty days in the county jail to forfeiting his constitutional right to free speech and his Christian duty to offer help to women in need, most of whom were black like him. Two higher courts eventually exonerated him: one overturned his criminal conviction, and the other judged that the enforcement of the Oakland “bubble law” was unconstitutional.

After her exodus from Planned Parenthood, where she was a manager of a center in Texas, Treviño became an international public speaker and pro-life advocate, speaking for the dignity and sanctity of life. She is a devoted wife and mother, and proud to be called pro-life, pro-woman and pro-family.

Father Robert Spitzer, S.J., author of Ten Universal Principles: A Brief Philosophy of the Life Issues and Healing the Culture: A Commonsense Philosophy of Happiness, Freedom, and the Life Issues

Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D., is the president of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith and the Spitzer Center. He was the President of Gonzaga University from 1998 to 2009. He is the author of many books, including “Finding True Happiness,” “Five Pillars of the Spiritual Life,” “The Light Shines On in the Darkness,” “The Soul’s Upward Yearning” and “God So Loved the World,” in addition to “Ten Universal Principles” and “Healing the Culture.”

Teresa Tomeo, author of Extreme Makeover: Women Transformed by Christ, Not Conformed to the Culture

Tomeo is an author, a syndicated Catholic talk show host and a motivational speaker with more than 30 years of broadcasting experience in both the secular and Christian media. Her daily morning program, “Catholic Connection,” is produced by Ave Maria Radio and syndicated through the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network.
