  1. Elagabalus

Conservative Rod Dreher says he’s known about McCarrick’s history of “cuddling” with his seminarians since 2002:

And yet, as a Catholic bishop he has gone on record denouncing consensual gay relationships in general and gay civil marriage in specific. Yet another closeted hypocrite overcompensating for his sins of abusing his authority over the young seminarians in his charge. Sick.

  2. The Way of Dodo

Another liberal-progressive is revealed in the Church – a supporter of abortion and homosexual relationships. The obvious question: was this abuse against boys and were his previous, and known, assaults against men?

“In the past, there have been allegations that he engaged in sexual behavior with adults,” Checchio’s statement said. “This Diocese and the Archdiocese of Newark received three allegations of sexual misconduct with adults decades ago; two of these allegations resulted in settlements.”

This man should have been disciplined decades ago.

  3. The Way of Dodo

He’s certainly a hypocrite. In 2006, he’s on record as supporting homosexual civil partnerships:

“I think basically the ideal would be that everybody was—was able to enter a union with a man and a woman and bring children into the world and have the wonderful relationship of man and wife that is so mutually supportive and is really so much part of our society and what keeps our society together. That’s the ideal.

“If you can’t meet that ideal, if there are people who for one reason or another just cannot do that or feel they cannot do that, then in order to protect their right to take care of each other, in order to take care of their right to have visitation in a hospital or something like that, I think that you could allow, not the ideal, but you could allow for that for a civil union.”

  4. Elagabalus

And then he went on to say this:

“In trying to reply to a question, I mentioned people who may need the right to take care of each other when they are grievously ill and hospitalized, but it was always in the context of the proposed legislation and in no way in favor of a lifestyle that is contrary to the teaching of the Church and Scripture,” he clarified.

WOLF BLITZER: So just explain. You think that you could live with — you could support civil unions between gays and lesbians, but you wouldn’t like them to get formally married, is that right?

  5. alwayspuzzled

Dolan is going to throw an 87 year old guy under the bus. It has no more significance than that.

  6. The Way of Dodo

Which is what I posted – he was in favour of homosexual civil unions, against his Churches position, for those who couldn’t manage male/female marriage as the “ideal”. The rest was flannel. And now one knows why.

  7. Bob Arnzen

Which part is sick, denouncing gay civil marriage, or engaging in consensual gay relationships?

  8. Bob Arnzen

I thought that was what you wanted based on dozens and dozens of posts:

zero tolerance, hang’em high, no secrets.

  9. Bob Arnzen

Apparently no one followed Canon Law.

  10. Ben in Oakland

There is a very interesting article on Daddy McCarrick from 2010.

It’s quite long, so I’m not going to post the whole salacious thing here. It is apparently well documented.

Now, it’s time to cue the Uber Catholics to tell us that it’s all the fault of Teh Geyz, Daddy was really a good guy, and there is no problem with predatory priests, just anti catholic nitpicking.

  11. floydlee

Let’s put Father Martin out to pasture as well. (umm, ASAP, please.) The Catholic Church is in crisis. Get rid of Martin.

Speaking of crisis, President Trump just defused a big one today, signing an Exec Order to keep the kids with their parents.

The Trump-Haters will continue wallowing in angst & anger, (such is daily life in the libbie hog-waller). But if the economy stays good into autumn, Trump should be able to ride out the mid-terms okay.

  12. Bob Arnzen

I don’t suppose the fact that the allegations apparently stem from an event four plus decades ago ever entered into your thoughts on this?

    Of course not.

For those who are not ideologues:

“The pattern and practice of bishops, including Pope Benedict when he headed a German diocese, is clear: send reported abusers for mental health counseling; reassign them to pastoral work regardless of what a professional recommends (i.e. restriction of access to minors); allow them to work again unsupervised; wait for another report of offence; repeat the cycle; cover it all up. “

describes blatant violations of Canon Law.

It also points out one of the problems was that mind mavens (usually psychologists) purported to be able to “cure” the clerics in question and, based on assurances and clean bills of health from these same mind mavens, some (not all) bishops put the offenders back in the line. Very few recommendations of “restriction of access to minors” were given.

Dioceses which did not do that, Lincoln in Nebraska for example, had zero lawsuits and few or no problems.

Lincoln, in addition, ran its own seminaries and ruthlessly weeded out those with sexual difficulties during seminary formation.

  13. Ben in Oakland

    Right on schedule.

  14. Rational Conclusions

And the RCC vomit continues unabated. Run away pew-sitters and never look back. I did that years ago and it still feels right!!

  15. Bob Arnzen

You do understand you’re posting on an article I have already been commenting on and on a particular topic of some interest to me?

    Of course not.

This is your personal email system, and when YOU say somebody shouldn’t respond, that’s the end of it.

  16. Bob Arnzen

He did manage to draw out the Dems.

Chuck Schumer made it clear that he would not support ANY legislation that did not include retroactive legalizing of DACA.

Meanwhile Senator Cruz offered a comprehensive fix in the Senate:

  17. Jeffrey

Nah, I’ll stay. A better idea would be to vomit out life-long liberal heretics such as McCarrick, who despise the actual teachings of the Church and try to change them as much as possible to suit their own whims.
Nothing would feel more right than that.

  18. Rational Conclusions

And another reason for leaving the RCC and any other religion? The Great Kibosh of Said Religions:

Putting the kibosh on all religion in less than ten
    seconds: Priceless !!!

As far as one knows or can tell, there was no Abraham i.e. the foundations of Judaism,
    Christianity and Islam are non-existent.

As far as one knows or can tell, there was no Moses i.e the pillars of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam have no strength of purpose.

There was no Gabriel i.e. Islam fails as a religion. Christianity partially fails.

There was no Easter i.e. Christianity completely fails as a religion.

There was no Moroni i.e. Mormonism is nothing more than a business cult.

Sacred/revered cows, monkey gods, castes, reincarnations and therefore Hinduism fails as a religion.

Fat Buddhas here, skinny Buddhas there, reincarnated/reborn Buddhas everywhere makes for a no on

A constant cycle of reincarnation until enlightenment is reached and belief that various beings
(angels?, tinkerbells? etc) exist that we, as mortals, cannot comprehend makes for a no on Sikhism.

Added details available upon written request.

A quick search will put the kibosh on any other groups
    calling themselves a religion.

    e.g. Taoism

“The origins of Taoism are unclear. Traditionally,
Lao-tzu who lived in the sixth century is regarded as its founder. Its early
philosophic foundations and its later beliefs and rituals are two completely
different ways of life. Today (1982) Taoism claims 31,286,000 followers.

Legend says that Lao-tzu was immaculately conceived by a shooting star; carried in his mother’s womb for
eighty-two years; and born a full grown wise old man. “

  19. Ben in Oakland

Right on schedule And according to prediction.

“Targeted harassment — posted or encouraged others to post harassing comments or hate speech targeting me, other individuals, or groups”

    You know the solution:

  21. Elagabalus

Flagged, eh? That ought to put the fear of God into Ben. What a sniveling little tattle tale you are. I bet your wife is grateful you spend so much time commenting online – that means less around her.

  22. Bob Arnzen

It’s not intended to put the fear of anything in anyone.

It’s intended to give me a break from fascist attempts to tell me where and to what I can comment by a self-appointed moderator.

Oddly enough I have never even mentioned being married.

Facts – you really don’t care for them, do you?, speaking of sniveling.

  23. Elagabalus

If you aren’t married that would hardly be a surprise.

  24. Bob Arnzen

    My personal life is personal.

  25. Bob Arnzen

McCarrick’s performance in 2004 should have led to his dismissal:

for withholding a letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on a matter being voted on by the bishops.

  26. Elagabalus

    No doubt.

  27. Ben in Oakland

But of course, that isn’t what I did at all.
Poor persecuted snowflake. You could always block me.

  28. Bob Arnzen

    Also flagged.

    The discussion phase has ended.

  29. Ben in Oakland

Most assuredly, snowflake, I did not tell you that you couldn’t post. I didn’t even mention you, but your never ending aggrievedness, your persecution complex, and your megalomaniacal need to be always right and never wrong, took you right out to where you could be clearly seen, once again. I hope you took a screen shot of my comment, because that would certainly prove I did nothing of the sort.

but I really don’t think that you should invite what little moderation occurs here at RNS to take a look at the commentary that you have posted ever since you and your Pet Parrot started tag-teaming the comments sections– including calling me a FASCIST for predicting that the uber-Catholics would be out as soon as they saw my comment.

I don’t think you’ll come out looking too good.

  30. Bob Arnzen

    Also flagged.

  31. Ben in Oakland

    flag this one, too.

  32. patrick

Being a lifelong resident of NJ, I remember McCarrick being appointed bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen in 1981.
His liaisons with young seminarians back then was well known by the local RC clergy.
He also arranged for ” shelter ” near the Jersey shore for troubled youth.
    That kept the pickins fresh….

  33. Brian Curtis

Apparently, “all the kids you can diddle” was viewed as one of the job’s standard perks back then.

  34. Brian Curtis

You realize that by signing an executive order on this issue, Trump has
    1) Admitted that it was NOT a law that he was being forced to follow, but simply an optional executive policy under his control the whole time (i.e., been caught in ANOTHER lie), and
    2) Lost his gamble to blackmail Congress into funding his border wall?

This was a resounding defeat for the hostage-taker.

  35. floydlee

Now that the Exec Order is signed, now that kids can stay with parenrs, it’s interesting to see how the Trump-Haters are doubling down on the extreme hate, instead of acknowledging the change and proposing one or two positive loophole closures. Sore winners, it seems.

You know, you take one one baby step, I take one baby step. Then the next steps. That’s how you fix an illegal immigration crisis. But the Democrats and their shrill media shills really DO a permanent, totally open southern border, de facto. Not good.

  36. Brian Curtis

He was just caught in a lie. He was holding children hostage, and it didn’t work. And you expect everyone to applaud now that he’s caved in?

  37. Bob Cariozen

The parts that you conveniently ignored, BobbyJo Arnzen.

  38. Bob Cariozen

    Right on.

  39. Bob Cariozen

L’il BobbyJo Arnzen can’t resist taking a swipe, as usual.

  40. Bob Cariozen

floydie is deluded, and generally, reality escapes him. But we already knew that.

  41. Bob Cariozen

And as usual BobbyJo Arnzen tries to sneak in a dodge to attack the opposition and defend a cretin.

  42. alwayspuzzled

    “loophole closures”
As soon as Mexico sends us the check for the wall, all the loopholes will be closed.

  43. floydlee

It was witty the first time. Try not to overdo.

  44. alwayspuzzled

    “Try not to overdo.”
    Then don’t create the opportunity.

  45. Charlotte N/A

You certainly care a lot about the personal lives of gay people and people who have or provide abortions. #hypocrite

  46. floydlee

You are free to post whatever you want. Even if its expiration date has passed.

  47. alwayspuzzled

President Trump promised that Mexico will pay for the wall. So the expiration date will be when we receive the check from Mexico.

  48. Ben in Oakland

According to the Mouth of Bob, that isn’t true.

  49. Ben in Oakland

I’m tewwibwy, tewwiby fwightened of the Wwath o’ Bob.

  51. Thomas Aquinas 2015

It appears that Mcarrick was another predatory homosexual ruining seminarians and the Church. No wonder the sad mix of priests we have today.

  52. CanisPulchrae

Your support of a sociopathic liar and sexual predator is so inspoiring.

  53. CanisPulchrae

Apparently, he doesn’t know how to do that.

  54. CanisPulchrae

Bob doesn’t have a wife… There’s no room for a wife in that closet.

  55. Bob Arnzen

    Of course you’re not.

  56. Bob Arnzen

I never commented on Mexico and the wall, ever.

  57. Ben in Oakland

He keeps saying he is blocking this person and that person. I have no idea, myself. If he has blocked me, I guess I don’t know it, because there he is, yet again, after promising me that the conversation had ended. Either:

    1) He’s lying, because obviously, since he just posted yet again, it hasn’t.
    2) He doesn’t know how, despite knowing everything. or
    3) He just can’t quit me.

  58. Ben in Oakland

It appears that McCarrick is another predatory priest. but it isn’t the likes of McCarrick corrupting the church, but the church that has corrupted homosexual men.
If I have time, I’ll tell you all about it.

  59. Ben in Oakland

He is neither liberal nor progressive, but another predatory priest.

  60. CanisPulchrae

They follow their own law. There is no “Canon Law”.

  61. CanisPulchrae

The Catholic Church creates these predators. And they support them. It’s is one of the most fkd-up cultures in human history.

  62. CanisPulchrae

He loves you, Ben. And so do I.

  63. Bob Arnzen

The discussion about whether or not I am going to continue to respond to what posts choose, including yours if wish, and the blather about “stalking” ended.

That was clear in the context, which makes it clear it is you who is lying.

It also makes clear that you’re purposely trolling so that you can write “He just can’t quit me” after alleging stalking. That is also why you don’t:

You fully understand what you’re doing and why.

  64. Bob Arnzen

His bag of tricks is mighty lean.

Don’t pick on him – he’ll have to go back to doing movies.

  65. Ben in Oakland

    Thanks for your love.

His? I have my own ideas about Das Bob and what makes him tick.

  66. Ben in Oakland

I got time. So here ya go.

It’s amusing to read your comments here, with you lamenting the alleged infiltration of this church by alleged homosexuals who, being evil as all homosexuals are, are destroying god’s vicarage on earth, causing it to sink into a swamp of corruption.

Do I have the story right? Anything left out? Oh, yes. the truth. And The part where god cares about the church, so much so that the revelations just keep coming, the internal contradictions as obvious and painful as a train wreck.

This isn’t a morality tale about the dangers of homosexuality, but a tale about corruption — not from without, but within. It’s the corruption of lies, fear, shame, hatred, and projection, the corruption of the closet, which twists, perverts, and destroys everything it touches. It’s the corruption of telling people that the finest part of themselves represents intrinsic, moral evil, while at the same time telling them that they are indeed born that way– intrinsically, morally disordered, with a tendency towards grave evil.

Simple psychology and sociology: you tell people that, they believe it, and if they really hate themselves, they live it.

You don’t become a priest by signing up with the holy recruiter at the mall. You must have a vocation–literally a calling from god. Without it, you cannot be a priest. The church has its methods to determine that a vocation is real. Either god is calling morally, deeply corrupt men to the priesthood, or the church’s guarantees are meaningless. I’d go with option 2 for 50¢, Alex.

Whatever good the church may do, it also has a great legacy of evil. It’s love of ostentation, power, and wealth while children starve. Its history of burning those unfortunate enough to be labelled heretic, protestant, or witch while declaiming that god is love. 1900 years of official anti-Semitism, leading to the zaniness of a man with a funny mustasche.

Its centuries-old child molestation scandals, with pedophiles being shielded and protected by the church hierarchy. And in this case, the Church hierarchy was not only protecting the predators, but joined them.

Homosexually inclined men– they’re not gay and proud, but twisted with the self hatred inculcated in them by the church– join the church not to find other such men, but to escape their sexuality altogether, the pressures of society and family, a self claimed prison where they will be safe– from themselves. The men who are pedophilia oriented do the same thing, for the same reasons. And that is only if we’re going to give them the benefit of the doubt, because a huge part of child molestation is ACCESS. That’s why fully half of molesters are the father, step father,or father surrogate. And in an additional 25% of the time, the child knows he molester, family or friend.

I’m certain that most priests, homosexual or heterosexual, are good people, at peace with themselves and the celibacy requirements. They take their vows seriously. But we’re not talking about them, but of men who loathe themselves, who have never dealt with their sexuality, except to try to repress it. It’s called coming out, and if you joined the church to escape yourself, you haven’t done it.

And if they take a vow of celibacy which they routinely ignore, that shows you what kind of men they are. I don’t think much of people who make solemn promises to god which they then break, but at least priests having sex with each other is with adults; the consequences are between them and the god they claim to believe in. Either they don’t believe in that god, or they never did. They are liars and hypocrites, and the church that produced them is corrupt. The corruption does not lie within being gay or straight, but within the preference to believe anything but the reality of gay people’s lives.

It’s bad enough, the damage these men do to themselves, the church, and their direct victims. But their indirect victims also suffer: the gay men who don’t hate themselves, who aren’t twisted and perverted by self loathing and shame, who don’t act out their frustrated sexuality on underage boys, or apparently like Cardinal O’Brien and Cardinal McCarrick, hitting on other priests. There are plenty of priests gay and straight, who are good men, who aren’t perverts. I’ve met them.

Gay men are damaged another way– blamed for the damage these self loathing closet cases do, as YOU ARE DOING. we get blamed for the child molestation that horrifies us just as much as it does anyone else. And almost worse? Lumped in the same category as these perverts. “Oh, they’re homosexuals. That’s how they all are.”

No. We’re not. That’s just another story you’re telling yourselves to justify what you have done to us for centuries. We have the evil hypocrisy of the cardinal, railing against the sinfulness of happy, out gay men, while conducting his personal sex crusade from deep within the vestry. We have roger Mahoney, incensed that people blame him for decades of abuse coverup in Los Angeles, as of he were personally responsible. he’s the victim, or so he says. We have that Canadian archbishop, arrested and imprisoned for child porn, while wailing about marriage equality in Canada. We have the Belgian archbishop who saw nothing wrong, as he so charmingly put it, with “taking comfort with children.”

It isn’t homosexuality that has corrupted your church, but your church that has corrupted homosexual men, turning them in to homo-hating-homos. Child molesters find a safe haven there, both because of access to children, and people like Mahoney, who believe that a scandal in the church is of greater importance that the destruction of the innocence of children.

It isn’t homosexuality that has corrupted your church. It’s your church that has corrupted itself.

  67. Thomas Aquinas 2015

I don’t find anything amusing about a predatory homosexual cleric preying on seminarians.

  68. CanisPulchrae

Well said. I spent many years in the seminary, to the point of ordination. I thought I was being called because I was gay and I believed at that time what the Church taught about that. There were some advantages. Many people expressed admiration for my “calling”, which served to prop up my broken self-esteem, but in a false way – It was a way of hiding who I was. The day I embraced myself and my sexuality was the day I finally walked into the light and decided to leave the seminary.

  69. CanisPulchrae

I would never defend his misconduct, but unlike you, at least he was capable of some emblance of empathy and understanding.

  70. LLCisyouandme

Four decades, a past best forgotten, a different era. 2000 years, just like yesterday.

  71. LLCisyouandme

He blocked me he says. Maybe he thought I cared. Hasn’t stopped me from responding with the facts to his addled spew. So far he hasn’t responded.

He seeks foils, certainly. I guess I just didn’t work out.

  72. Ben in Oakland

Who said it was amusing? Of course, your blatant need to miss the point and blame it on Teh Geyz is amusing, in a missing-the-point-and-blame-it-on-Teh-Geyz sort of a way.

Apparently, god doesn’t care about your church, so hard core fundamentalists posting on these very pages are right. Your church’s “discernment” for verifying a vocation doesn’t work, so it merely proves the point.

No other conclusion possible, other than that you are more or less agreeing with me.

  73. Ben in Oakland

Thanks. I’ve talked to more than a few priests about this, read a lot of books, and this was my field a long time ago.

  74. Ben in Oakland

As with so many authoritarian bullies, BobWorld is awash in megalomania, insecurity, and projection. Unfortunately, he also possesses some intelligence.

Let’s just say I’m glad he exists only as a collection of electrons on my screen.

  75. Thomas Aquinas 2015

The damage these predatory homosexual clerics are doing is incalculable.

More than 80% of the “child” abuse cases involve same-sex attracted priests and POST-pubescent young men (USCCB report 2016).

  76. Bob Arnzen

I can’t decide whether “Apparently, god doesn’t care about your church” coming from an atheist homosexual is amusing or offensive.

  77. LLCisyouandme

The priest / principal of the Catholic high school I attended sought to “counsel” two young men there, two of the most overt gay men you’d ever meet, *into* the priesthood. One went. I think they see it as a way to “gain control over primitive drives, through faith,” as absurd of a notion as that is. There is an ultimate irony that *those* drives are so disparaged, most often by using only the lens of all the base emotions, guilt and anger and shame and hatred and disgust and fear, to “interpret” homosexuality. Reason, the ability to process reality in a rational matter, is left out of it. So, of course, is empathy. The priest involved likely saw himself as making lemonade. They much prefer situational and transactional faith and loyalty, blind adherence to tribe, which is to say no faith or loyalty at all.

  78. LLCisyouandme

“They didn’t always rape pre-pubescent children.” Males typically enter pubecence at 11 or 12.

  79. Ben in Oakland

I think you have it precisely.

The other side of that particular coin is this. The national ballet in Hungary has had to cancel a production of Billy Elliot, after attacks by a right wing news paper which claims that the show turns boys gay. Billy does, but not swan lake. As a self respecting homosexual, I have no idea whether being gay is supposed to turn me into a psychotic, hyper-masculine super soldier, or pink tutu wearing girly girl. It is almost as if they project all of their own issues In their own dark psyches on to other people because it is just too painful to deal with their own issues by themselves.

No amount of facts, logic, or experience is ever going to get into a mentality that it is so obsessed about homosexuality, and yet at the same time, Beyond ignorant, beyond stupid about it.

  80. Ben in Oakland

And 100% of the abusers were Catholic Priests, called to the priesthood by god and certified by the church. And 80% of the victims were still under the age of 14. They are not men, they are boys. UNDERAGED BOYS. BOYS BEGINNING PUBERTY.

All you are saying is that your church is deeply, deeply, deeply corrupt. And you desire to make excuses for them.

    More later.

  81. Bob Arnzen

100% of the Catholic abusers were Catholic. Some were priests.

100% of the Jewish abusers were Jewish. Some were rabbis.

100% of the Protestant abusers were Protestant. Some were ministers.

    And so on.

And you’re right, the predators were largely homosexual pederasts in the Catholic clergy, and the reasons for that are well-documented. I would begin with Rembert Weakland as Exhibit A.

It is the very nature of human society, and the Catholic Church is a human society, that evil cohabits with good.

Jesus selected twelve Apostles, one of who turned out to be a rather nasty piece of work.

Nothing to see here, move along.

  82. LLCisyouandme

I’m not sure how you can read what was “decided” in that EO and classify it as a “cave.” He just tried to buy himself some time and hope the outrage dies down. People seeking asylum will still be actively refused at official ports of entry. Not only will no attemprt be made to guide them to the “normal,” legal process, they are actively being directed and driven from it, entirely in the hope that they succumb to their plight and cross somewhere else. People seeking asylum also still have that right as soon as they are “in the US,” by law, to declare for asylum. This perverse administration is instead using their (forced) illegal entry as a way to subvert the system, to label them (and accuse them as) criminals and somehow argue this pre-empts their honest intent. They want to jail and punish and deport them without considering their asylum status, or denying that status based on criminal behavior. What’s changed? These victims will now be incarcerated indefintitely as families. No new judges will be hired. No expedition of process. (Being in the very large “front” of a very long line where service is deliberately as slow and dysfunctional as possible is not expediting.) I see some of these judges having their decisions appealed and requests for censure coming when those decisions are seen to “interfere* with the calculated chaos. No mention was made of a process for reunitiing families, those who are presumed to have the responsibility for implementing that are “awaiting guidance,” sitting on their hands to promulgate the current horrendous state of affairs.

  83. LLCisyouandme

DACA and the immigration process in general have been deliberately subverted here, and then “fixes” that are actually extortions, with carefully worded loopholes and escape clauses to avoid any real responsibility, are proposed. It’s like the abusive husband saying “Look what you made me do. Sign this confession and maybe next time I won’t hit you quite so hard, unless you make me all over again.”

  84. LLCisyouandme

People are stews. Treating sexual desire as some sort of separable element of our lives is like trying to eat around the carrots and pepper.

  85. LLCisyouandme

Exercising one’s intelligence to rationalize away reason is the most peculiar (and idiotic) thing one could possibly do with it. A wasted gift is an abomination.

Funny, the John jay report says 73% of the victims were 14 and under. They are still children, they are still under the age of consent, and the fact that they were boys with public hair says absolutely NOTHING about the sexual orientation of the priests that abused them. It says a great deal about their access, since I suspect it has been something like a century since priests were allowed the same access to girls.

The real question is: what kind of homosexual man molests children and young teens? Just as: what kind of straight man molests children and young teens? What leads to this kind of behavior which is far from the norm among homosexuals and heterosexuals? And why does the Catholic Church priesthood seem such a magnet for child rapists and molesters? Why has it seemed to attract so many homosexual men who are psychologically disturbed or sick when it comes to their sexual orientation? and let’s NOT leave out the fact that child molesters don’t really care about the gender of the child, only that the child is a child.

The alleged sexual orientation of the perpetrator is, strictly speaking, irrelevant to the matter at hand: an institution that sought to cover up, and protect rapists and molesters of minors. If we were talking about adult sexual relationships here, we could have a discussion about sexual orientation. But we’re not. We’re talking about abuse. Its a gay problem? An alternative is that it could be a PRIEST problem. The priesthood offers access to children, unquestioned moral
authority, a hierarchy steeped in secrecy, a legit excuse for not dating
or being married, and a place to CONFESS with absolute confidentiality and ZERO

Tenerife Bishop Bernando Alvarez, blaming child molestation on the victims, made this comment some years ago. “There are 13 year old adolescents who are under age and who are perfectly in agreement with, and what’s more wanting it, and if you are careless they will even provoke you.”

the majority of cases of sex abuse involve post-pubescent boys, as if the fact that many of them had just reached puberty changes anything. None of the victims were adults. If you fail to grasp that then you simply can’t understand the problem. In your desire to revile and slander gay people, you want to claim a “gay pedophilia crisis”, when all along it’s been a Catholic crisis, even if 100% of the victims of priestly sexual abuse are male and most are post-pubescent, WHICH THEY ARE NOT.
While Catholicism does not cause predatory behavior, and most Catholic priests are not molesters, all of the molesters have been Catholic, and all of the people who have covered the problem for the last 1000 years or so have been catholic as well.

Thank you so much for that. It summarizes the Mouth of Bob– a reference he will never get– perfectly.

  88. Bob Arnzen

Apparently determining the orientation of the perpetrator by noting the sex of the victim is a new methodology to you.

    It shouldn’t be.

  89. Ben in Oakland

Even when speaking with the mouth of bob, BobWorld simply doesn’t understand what you are talking about. I can’t help you with that. Educate yourself- for once- or don’t. I really don’t care.

  90. Thomas Aquinas 2015

The 2016 report from the USCCB says at least 80% of the abusing priests were same-sex attracted and 90% of abuse occurred with post-pubescent youth.

    Devasting data.

  91. Thomas Aquinas 2015

And the number of such priests pale in comparison to the number of public school teachers who abuse both same sex and opposite sex youth.

More devastating data to the Catholic Church HATERS and to the PUBLIC school lovers.

  92. Ben in Oakland

It’s not what the earlier Jan jay report says, but quite the opposite. Even if TRUE, which. Sincerely doubt, It doesn’t negate a single thing that I said.

But How about an actual quote?

  93. Bob Arnzen

I think we all understand that your response is a tacit admission that the goods have been had, the perpetrators were roughly 80% homosexual, and that there just isn’t any evidence that 80% of heterosexual offenders prey on same sex victims anywhere in any literature of any discipline.

  94. Bob Arnzen

No, all of the molesters have not been Catholic.

Currently molestation is most common among public school teachers.

  95. Bob Arnzen

Ben is in a real bind.

He is either going to have to deny that folks act on their “orientation”, which is part of the same sex bible, or he has to deny it.

Watch the amazing tap dance. Look for “opportunity”, look for “pederast not homosexual”, look for anything and everything but plain old what you see is what you get.

Yes, the Jay Report nailed it.

What is unfortunate is that it was preceded by decades of complaints about certain bishops, a gay mafia in formation, and a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in some of the seminaries.

Had Canon Law been followed, which absolutely precluded the ordination of folks with these problems, look at all the pain and suffering that could have been avoided.

  96. Thomas Aquinas 2015

New data, chases old and suspect data away. Go read the report…text, charts, you name it.

  97. Ben in Oakland

Except that there doesn’t appear to be a 2016 or even a 2015 or any other new John jay report since the original one, which emphatically did NOT say what you claim it says. I did 6 different google searches trying to track it down, and could not find a single reference to ANY new John Jay report.

So, please provide a link to this NEW report, becuase otherwise, I will have to assume you just went to a right wing Catholic website and pulled it out of your rear end.

Even Bill Donahue makes no reference to any such report. If it existed, you know that he would.

  98. Thomas Aquinas 2015

    Page 40, right side.

The authors so try to side step the language too.

“The percentages reported for year 2016 in
Figure 5 are similar to those reported for year 2015
    (July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2015), where 81 percent of
the victims were male and 19 percent were female. ”

NET: 81% were assaulted by same sex attracted priests.

We need to re-aquaint ourselves with truths, for too many, uncomfortable truths, truths that the Agenda doesn’t want to face up to, because they’ve become soft-headed.

  99. Ben in Oakland

Still waiting for a link. Because as far as I can tell, this report DOES NOT EXIST.
But same sex attracted is not defined, nor is defined how they know. It also does not contradict what I was saying.
what you are trying to do is conflate men who molest boys with homosexuality. I got that.

  100. Thomas Aquinas 2015

If you type USCCB 20116 abuse report, you’ll find it. Some people.

  101. Thomas Aquinas 2015

For a run over of the problems with the “John Jay report”, see this.

It’s not the standard for good science…but the Agenda types love it, but they’re not the sharpest just the most activist.

  102. Charlotte N/A

The data does not support a virgin giving birth. Some issues are not open to interpretation.

  103. Ben in Oakland

    Thank you. I will.
But bobWorld says that there are some issues of interpretation. And he is never wrong. But that’s a loophole you can drive a very large cathedral through.

  104. Charlotte N/A

Look at all the pain and suffering that could have been avoided if Christianity didn’t exist: no Crusades, no Inquisition, no bombings of abortion clinics…

  105. Thomas Aquinas 2015

  106. Thomas Aquinas 2015

Anyone with a good mind for science can read the survey questions and can see how they walk around the topic.

  107. Charlotte N/A

Where’s your source for that claim? I know how much Christians love to make up lies for attention, to deflect scrutiny of their own pedophilia.

  108. Charlotte N/A

Apparently, the notion that a virgin can’t give birth is news to you.

    It shouldn’t be.

  109. Charlotte N/A

You turned out to be a rather nasty piece of work.

Nothing to see here, move along.

  110. Bob Arnzen

Ah, First Name: Ben Last Name: In Oakland, “bobWorld”.

At least you’re doing some variations on it.

But the shtick remains the same – nothing of substance.

  111. Bob Arnzen

It was posted two hours before you made this comment.

    What a brain you have.

  112. Bob Arnzen

    Oh you DID get it.

What an act you put on.

  113. Bob Cariozen

WHAM! BLAM! Nasty, typically Christian BobbyJoJack Arnzen-Carioca fires off another snide, insulting attack at a sincere poster.

It’s definitely time to take BobbyJoJack’s guns away.

  114. Bob Cariozen

Your abilities to discern reality or make a good decision are generally weak, BobbyJo.

  115. Bob Cariozen

WHACK! BobbyJo Arnzen takes another snide slap at Ben.

  116. CanisPulchrae

“Same sex attracted”??? No. He abused a 6-year-old when he was 15. He’s a pedophile. You don’t seem to know much about this issue.

  117. CanisPulchrae

“Same sex attracted”?? What are you? Another disturbed self-loathing closet case?

  118. CanisPulchrae

The John Jay report was clear that “homosexuality” was not a cause of the abuse. It’s the sick goddamned culture of which you are immersed that caused this crisis.

  119. Thomas Aquinas 2015

How else can one describe it? These priests are males and they are attracted to the same sex. By definition they’re homosexuals.

  120. Thomas Aquinas 2015

80% of priestly abuse and 91% of priestly abuse are same sex, to post-pubescents!

  121. CanisPulchrae

You can go to hell for trying to paint all gay men as abusers. Go. To. HELL. Learn the goddamned difference between adult sexuality and sexual abuse. Grow up and think like a man.

  122. CanisPulchrae

Was the 6-year-old a homo, too? Pervert.

  123. The Way of Dodo

Yes, he certainly showed that to the young seminarians he repeatedly sexually assaulted. And he was a liberal-progressive, as well as being a homosexual and a molester of a teenager boy.

  124. CanisPulchrae

That’s funny — there hasn’t been a “liberal progressive” person in the RCC since Jesus Christ.

  125. Thomas Aquinas 2015

Same sex attractions span many age groups, some sicker than others, irrespective of the illegalities.

It’s the attractions that are disordered.

  126. CanisPulchrae

    Fuvk you. you gpoddamned pervert

  127. Thomas Aquinas 2015

You misunderstand. I’m trying to make sure that perverts and other disordered types don’t enter the priesthood.

  128. Thomas Aquinas 2015

No he was raped by one.

  129. CanisPulchrae

Well, you’ve failed at that. The next time you take communion, remember that it was from the hands of a disordered homosexual pervert.

  130. Thomas Aquinas 2015

No, the number of homosexual priests as a percentage is considerably small, and the number of “disordered homosexual perverts (note: a triple tautology) is (though a perfect subset) much smaller.

  131. CanisPulchrae

Really? How would you know that?? The fact is, the majority of Catholic priests are gay. Go ahead, tell yourself differently so you feel better.

  132. Thomas Aquinas 2015

Fabricating data is a sure sign of some serious and long-standing interior disorder, literally a perversion of the truth.

We’ll clean out the stables and rid the Church of such clerics, who stain everything they touch.

  133. CanisPulchrae

Take your own words to heart, hypocrite. You’re a disordered closet case.

  134. CanisPulchrae

You’re the one doing the fabricating.

So how many gay priests actually exist? While there’s a glut of homoerotic writings from priests going back to the Middle Ages, obtaining an accurate count is tough. But most surveys (which, due to the sensitivity of the subject, admiittedly suffer from limited samples and other design issues) find between 15 percent and 50 percent of U.S. priests are gay, which is much greater than the 3.8 percent of people who identify as LGBTQ in the general population.

  135. Thomas Aquinas 2015

Oh there’s no doubt that there are some in the mix and have been for a long while. I’ll go back even futher than you… here’s what a St Peter D. said in the 1000s about what their disorder does to themselves and to the church.

Here’s what he wrote with beautiful clarity.

“This vice is the death of bodies, the destruction of souls, pollutes the flesh, extinguishes the light of the intellect, expels the Holy Spirit from the temple of the human heart, introduces the diabolical inciter of lust, throws into confusion, and removes the truth completely from the deceived mind…It prepares snares for the one who walks, and for him who falls into the pit, it obstructs the escape. It opens up hell and closes the door of paradise. It makes the citizen of the heavenly Jerusalem into an heir of the Babylonian underworld. From the star of heaven, it produces the kindling of eternal fire. It cuts off a member of the Church and casts him into the voracious conflagration of raging Gehenna…For it is this which violates sobriety, kills modesty, slays chastity. It butchers virginity with the sword of a most filthy contagion. It befouls everything, it stains everything, it pollutes everything, and for itself it permits nothing pure, nothing foreign to filth, nothing clean…”

He even says they forget who they are…and how true this is today…with all the gender confused.

  136. St Reformed

That’s a huge question. Every time I ask it, the estimate becomes larger. In any case, it’s far, far above the 4% proclaimed by Fr. McCloskey of EWTN, a fellow in the deepest depths of denial.
