Salem Church in Gomier, a small coastal town east of Jeremie, was destroyed by Hurricane Matthew. Samaritan’s Purse was the first organization to reach the area with aid. Gomier Mayor Charles Francois Fils said he was unsure how many people died in the community, but he thought the majority of losses were in the form of homes and infrastructure. Samaritan’s Purse has an existing network in the community because Salem Church is a recipient of Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan’s Purse ministry project. RNS photo by Kit Doyle
