If the "Selma" trailer doesn't give you chills...

The trailer for the film "Selma" is out, and it is a must-see.
If the “Selma” trailer doesn’t give you chills…

You’re probably not human.

“What happens when a man stands up and says ‘enough is enough’?” David Oyelowo, whose role in the trailer as Martin Luther King, Jr. should be enough to nominate him for an Academy Award, leads the cast of this film about the civil rights march in Selma, Alabama, in 1965.

If this blog exists for any meaningful reason, it is to highlight the issues that live at the intersection of religion and popular culture.

I cannot imagine a better candidate for three minutes of your time today, or a couple of hours in January, when the film is released. Especially in light of the recently-leaked Hoover-era FBI letter to MLK urging him to kill himself, I think every American with a spare twelve dollars should be out to see this movie, to see the ugliness our country perpetuated in very recent history and to join together in hope that we can keep moving in a better direction.

No paywalls here. Thanks to you.
As an independent nonprofit, RNS believes everyone should have access to coverage of religion that is fair, thoughtful and inclusive. That's why you will never hit a paywall on our site; you can read all the stories and columns you want, free of charge (and we hope you read a lot of them!)

But, of course, producing this journalism carries a high cost, to support the reporters, editors, columnists, and the behind-the-scenes staff that keep this site up and running. That's why we ask that if you can, you consider becoming one of our donors. Any amount helps, and because we're a nonprofit, all of it goes to support our mission: To produce thoughtful, factual coverage of religion that helps you better understand the world. Thank you for reading and supporting RNS.
