The night before the Pasola, extended families gather at ancestral graves, which are scattered between houses in Wainyapu village on Sumba, on March 9, 2018. Some of the megalithic graves are more than 500 years old. To honor the ancestral spirits, people traditionally put betel nuts, leaves and rice on the gravestones as offerings.
