MALIBU, Calif. (RNS) —  Wendsler Nosie Sr., along with his family and members of Apache Stronghold — a coalition of Apaches, other Native peoples and non-Native supporters seeking to preserve Oak Flat — gathered Sunday at the Wishtoyo Chumash Village in Malibu in Los Angeles County as part of a spiritual convoy to San Francisco, where a court on Oct. 22 will hear an appeal the group has filed to keep the land from being transferred. RNS-RCA-Synod: The Reformed Church in America moves toward restructuring, prepares for departures
(RNS) — The Reformed Church in America’s 214th General Synod taking place in Tucson, Arizona voted Saturday (Oct. 16) to appoint a team that will develop a restructuring plan for the denomination, and to adopt new regulations for allowing departing churches to retain their assets and buildings. These decisions are part of the nearly 400-year old denomination’s desire to move forward following decades of gridlock over LGBTQ ordination and same-sex marriage.

RNS-Salkin-Oped: A Jewish case for not liking ‘The Sopranos’
(RNS) — The Sopranos is great television. But, let us be honest. The Sopranos is not good ethnic politics. I am invoking the rabbinic dictum: “What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow person.” It is about empathy. When I see how Jews are sometimes portrayed on the screen, I cringe.
