National Catholic Reporter names Dr. Nicole Symmonds 2021-2022 Sacred Writes Fellow
The National Catholic Reporter (NCR) named Dr. Nicole Symmonds the 2021-2022 Sacred Writes Fellow. The Sacred Writes fellowship is hosted by Northeastern University and funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. The goal of the fellowship is to bridge the gap between academia and religious media. The fellowship, first created in 2018, offers fellows training and support from writers and editors working in religious media.
Dr. Symmonds received a B.S. in Journalism from Florida A&M University, an M.Div from the Candler School of Theology and a Ph.D. from Emory University’s Graduate Division of Religion. Her work focuses on sexual ethics in pop culture, Christian social ethics and ethnography and anti-trafficking work. Her current research focuses on anti-trafficking and the role of Evangelicals.
Because of its independent status, NCR goes where other Catholic news sources cannot. In its early days, NCR reported on the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, including the secret findings and the dissenting opinions of Pope John XXIII’s/Pope Paul VI’s commission on birth control. The publication can be read online at NCRonline.org, or by following @NCRonline on Facebook and Twitter.
