Global Sisters Report

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Global Sisters Report’s story by Doreen Ajiambo, “Sisters foster healing for survivors and perpetrators of Sierra Leone’s civil war,” has been longlisted in the One World Media Awards Print 2024 category,

Global Sisters Report (GSR), a project of National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company that gives greater voice to Catholic sisters around the globe, published the story in its 2023 yearlong series Hope Amid Turmoil: Sisters in Conflict Areas.

Doreen’s story highlights survivors and perpetrators who have benefited from religious sisters and other organizations fostering healing and reconciliation in Sierra Leone since the 11-year-long civil war was officially declared over on Jan. 18, 2002.

The story will now go to the next stage of the awards judging process. One World Media received 540 entries from 117 countries. Doreen’s story was among 10 selected for the “Print” category alongside impactful journalism by international publications such as The Guardian, Reuters and The Economist.

“We are thrilled to see Doreen’s powerful story getting much-deserved recognition. In Sierra Leone, sisters are on the front lines, and too often, their stories go untold,” said Gail DeGeorge, editor of GSR. “We’re so proud to see One World Media honor this story and shed more light on sisters’ important work.”

The longlisted entries are available to view on One World Media’s website. The awards ceremony will take place June 19 at Curzon Soho, London, and will be livestreamed.
