RNS convenes event on first impressions of Pope Leo XIV

RNS is bringing together veteran Vatican observers to explore the early signs and analyze first impressions from Pope Leo XIV in a virtual event to be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 12:30–1:30 p.m. ET.

Building on the success of our pre-conclave virtual event, and the foundation of RNS’s reporting that has tracked everything from Pope Francis’s passing to this moment, as part of the conversation, we’ll ask: Is Pope Leo XIV charting a new course or sticking to familiar ground? What are insiders noticing that the headlines might miss? From policy to personality, we’ll take stock of his first month and what it could mean for the future of the Catholic Church.

Join us for this free virtual event featuring:

  • Dr. Anthea Butler, professor at the University of Pennsylvania, known for her work on religion and politics.
  • Monsignor Roger Landry, Catholic priest and National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies USA.
  • Claire Giangravé, RNS reporter based in Rome, covering the Vatican.
  • In conversation with Niala Boodhoo, RNS events host/EP and veteran journalist.

This event, part of a series leading up to our in-person Fall Symposium, is free. To register for The New Pope: First Impressions, visit our registration page. For information on the speakers, please reach out to RNS here.

No paywalls here. Thanks to you.
As an independent nonprofit, RNS believes everyone should have access to coverage of religion that is fair, thoughtful and inclusive. That's why you will never hit a paywall on our site; you can read all the stories and columns you want, free of charge (and we hope you read a lot of them!)

But, of course, producing this journalism carries a high cost, to support the reporters, editors, columnists, and the behind-the-scenes staff that keep this site up and running. That's why we ask that if you can, you consider becoming one of our donors. Any amount helps, and because we're a nonprofit, all of it goes to support our mission: To produce thoughtful, factual coverage of religion that helps you better understand the world. Thank you for reading and supporting RNS.
