Religion News Service (RNS) receives $200,000 grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation

Religion News Service (RNS) today announced the receipt of a $200,0000 grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to support its work as an independent, non-profit news organization. RNS seeks to improve understanding and foster discussion about religion, faith, and belief in everyday life.

The support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation will help RNS enhance its coverage of some of the toughest challenges facing our nation and world, including attacks on democracy itself. This grant also will help ensure that RNS remains a trusted source of information about these challenges and spur constructive dialogues about them. 

“Our thanks to the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for its support of RNS’s coverage of crucial issues including the state of democracy in America and the divisions that have emerged. Religious communities will remain front and center in this struggle because of their rootedness in their communities and their powerful messages to adherents on all side. It is RNS’s role and responsibility to present these divisions, giving all faiths the space to be understood on their own terms, and explore potential alternatives to the polarizing ‘us versus them’ narrative that is widespread throughout the country,” said Deborah Caldwell, RNS’s Publisher. 


As the most trusted source for news, features and commentary on religion, faith and beliefs, this grant will contribute to RNS’s ability to increase religious literacy and foster dialogues among its readers viewers and in the broader news environment.
