As Gilbert Becker of Blue Springs, Mo. approached the end of life, he and and his family decided to plan a “green” or “natural” burial at Green Acres Cemetery near Columbia, Mo. After he passed away in Sept. 2013, Becker’s sons carved a casket from a neighbor’s tree and he was laid to rest in nature, where the family had spent many memorable times camping, fishing and just being outside with their husband and father.
