RNS offers Olympic feature content to publishers

Do you wish you had the budget to send a reporter to Brazil? Maybe you are already receiving Olympic sports updates from the Associated Press, but want more of a feature angle? Religion News Service has Olympic content that you won’t find anywhere else.

RNS national correspondent Kimberly Winston will be introducing readers to the Team USA athletes — Catholics, Muslims, Jews, evangelicals, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses and more — who say their faith influences their success. She will also highlight some international athletes whose athleticism is influenced by faith. Whether it praying before a race, wearing a special symbol or amulet or even donning special religious attire to compete, Kimberly will offer short, insightful and informative pieces on the faith behind the Games.

In addition, Kimberly will offer some pieces that examine the religion working at the setting of the Games — Rio De Janeiro. Brazil is home to a large Catholic population, but Protestants have been making inroads there for more than a decade. And a couple of indigenous religions — Candomble, Umbanda and Spiritism — have grown to the point that their followers, too, are demanding a place for worship in the Olympic Village. Kimberly’s will focus on what can we learn about world religions as they move behind the scenes at Rio 2016.
