Satanic Temple billboard protesting corporal punishment rankles Texas town

Photo by Francis Muzquiz de Anguiano

(RNS) — Arther Culpepper, a sheet-metal mechanic and part-time pastor in the South Texas town of Three Rivers, first noticed the billboard out of the corner of his eye.

He was driving south on U.S. Highway 281 — near the local Dairy Queen — when the message caught his attention: “Our religion doesn’t believe in hitting children.”

The sign was paid for by the Satanic Temple, a national group whose Protect Children Project takes aim at paddling in public schools.

“I kind of thought it was funny,” said Culpepper, who pastors at the nondenominational River of Life Worship Center. “Everybody in America has the right to rent a billboard if you want to rent a billboard.”

Free speech or not, many others in the town of 1,900 — about 75 miles south of San Antonio — expressed shock and outrage at the group’s message, which targets the Three Rivers school district board of trustees’ 6-o vote in July to reinstitute corporal punishment.

“The community is upset, not happy,” said Kevin Mackey, minister of the Three Rivers Church of Christ, which responded on its own sign: “Satan doesn’t own all the signs in (Three Rivers) — don’t let him own you.”

Lyn Means, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Three Rivers, echoes Mackey’s concern.

“I’m very sorry that the billboard has been posted in our town, especially in a city park where families and our children congregate,” Means said. “There’s not really anything I can do about it personally except pray for those people responsible for putting something like that up in our town.”

According to the Protect Children Project website, the Satanic Temple “believes that children should not be objects of physical violence or psychological abuse. We have prepared a letter that can be signed by students which informs their public schools that their deeply held beliefs do not allow for them to be hit in school, physically restrained, placed in solitary confinement, or deprived access to a bathroom.”

“Hopefully, our billboard will give pause to passers-by who will be forced to confront the fact that the school district is being operated by depraved and ignorant sadists who have no business being in education,” a Satanic Temple spokesman who goes by the name Lucien Greaves told The Dallas Morning News.

In a statement quoted by The Progress, a local newspaper, school Superintendent Mary Springs said:

“It has come to our attention that outside groups may try to force their beliefs on our community while attempting to orchestrate controversy and conversation regarding this policy. We believe that the majority of our community is very supportive of the school and our policies. We believe that the conversations that take place between our administrators and our parents regarding student behavior are the most important conversations regarding this topic.

“The district continues to focus on the greatest aspect of our work which is educating children and will not have any further comment on this policy,” concludes the statement.

Neither Greaves nor Springs responded to interview requests from RNS.

In the blue-collar community, many work in the oil business — including at Valero Three Rivers Refinery — and most claim a church affiliation, even if not all make it to worship on Sunday, pastors said.

Three Rivers is in Live Oak County, where 81 percent of voters cast ballots for President Trump in the 2016 election.

For many observers, the billboard’s ties to a satanic group spark particular alarm.

“I was just really … in disbelief,” said Francis Muzquiz de Anguiano, a Pentecostal Christian who posted a Facebook photo of the billboard after driving through Three Rivers.

“They advertise they don’t believe in hitting children, but the first thing you think about is, they’ll sacrifice them. It’s really alarming to me as a Christian because they’re being really bold about their beliefs and trying to lure in people from the outside.”

Actually, the Satanic Temple is an organization dedicated to church-state separation — and one whose leaders say they don’t really believe in the devil or Satan worship. Greaves has characterized the group, based in Salem, Mass., as “an atheistic religion.”

The corporal punishment policy enacted by the Three Rivers school board requires parental approval before a school official can paddle a child. Local church leaders interviewed by RNS distinguish between “hitting” and “disciplining” a child.

“Our religion causes us to love our children, and therefore we discipline them,” said Mackey, the Church of Christ minister. “Now, that discipline doesn’t have to be spanking. But it also can be spanking.”

Means, the First Baptist pastor, said: “Of course, no Southern Baptist condones abuse or hitting children. Abuse is different from giving a child, in my opinion, a spat on the seat. Hitting conveys the idea of abuse. Discipline is a word they wouldn’t dare put on a billboard.”

Culpepper, the River of Life Worship Center pastor, declined to respond to the billboard’s message, suggesting that whatever he said would be taken out of context.

But he voiced support for the town’s school leaders.

“I don’t think the school district should answer to anybody except the people they serve,” Culpepper said. “And anybody outside of Three Rivers doesn’t, to me, have a dog in the fight, so why should they even get involved?”

  • Too funny.

Defending hitting a kid as long as you don’t call it that. Upset because the satanists say you shouldn’t hit a kid.

Once again, atheists show the religionists what morality is.

  • “They advertise they don’t believe in hitting children, but the first thing you think about is, they’ll sacrifice them.”

Sure, I guess that’s the first thing you think about, if you’re a complete ass…

  • “they’re being really bold about their beliefs and trying to lure in people from the outside”

Well, that pot just called this kettle black. You best believe, you only see TST show up when some other religion is being too bold about their beliefs.

  • The Seven Fundamental Tenets of The Satanic Temple:

    • One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.

    • The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

    • One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

    • The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.

    • Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.

    • People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.

    • Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

  • Total demon-possession combined with total media-savvy. That’s how the Satanic Temple plays the game.

  • “Actually, the Satanic Temple is an organization dedicated to church-state separation — and one whose leaders say they don’t really believe in the devil or Satan worship. Greaves has characterized the group, based in Salem, Mass., as “an atheistic religion.” And satan, who they portray that they follow, isn’t known for his lies and deception, right?

  • lol And again, satan, who they portray themselves as following, is known for his truthfulness and lack of deception; right?

  • I grew up in a conservative (overwhelmingly Christian) rural community where corporal punishment was an unquestioned practice in our schools. It was the 70s, so our teachers were never questioned in how they disciplined us. I received several paddlings over those years. The lesson I took from being hit by adults is that violence is okay if it is committed by authority figures. It didn’t affect my behavior nor that of my friends. We just worked harder at not getting caught breaking the rules. The “spare the rod, spoil the child” mentality never addressed the cause of our behavior nor treated us as human beings. It was about obedience to authority which is a big fetish for conservative Christians. Children are to be seen, not heard. Wives obey your husbands. Step out of line and you get physically smacked down. It is really sad that the people of this community choose to pursue this counterproductive practice. It may make the “Christians” in the community feel good about themselves but it cheats their children out of learning appropriate boundaries and behavior in the classroom. Rather than address their support for an antiquated, ineffective, damaging practice, these folks hide behind their religion. These so-called Christians have much to learn from the “Satanists” on how to be decent, compassionate, functional human beings.

  • The fact inserted, that “81% of the voters” in Live Oak County “cast ballots for President Trump” is entirely gratuitous.

  • Just including satan in their name attests to the fact that they want to, if not already are. I don’t need to read lies. I’ve heard enough of satan’s lies in my lifetime, thanks.

  • The Satanic Temple is certainly not Satanist in the common understanding of the term, but I think it patently obvious that their little joke is wholly without humor. For those of us who recognize the existence of that arch malefactor, this is merely a deception within a deception.

  • It makes the zealots very nervous to learn that TST is informing their children they have a right not to be assaulted – at home or at school. They might not be able to get away with it any longer. Of course they don’t like it.

  • No one should have the. right to spank a child for any reason except their own parents. All State and agencies such as child protective services is the same as the church of Satan( Satan is a liar) and Satan is not allowed any more.to take our children from us any more. All Satan needs is a written invitation(a signature)and if Satan does he will devour your children and more. They want to teach your kids to rebel to ruin souls.Ignore them GOD will deal with them.

  • As usual the Satanic Temple are acting as heroes while Christians trip over themselves trying to justify awful behavior so as to not align themselves with the Temple. I’m forever proud to be a member.

  • Your willful ignorance as to what our organization is about is heartbreaking but not surprising. It’s amazing to watch Christians bend over backward to defend irredeemable activities and beliefs just so they don’t accidentally align themselves with us.

  • “No one should have the. right to spank a child for any reason” You started off so well. You should have quit while you were ahead.

  • I remember junior high school corporal punishment. It was a series of trumatic events associated with humiliation, brutal verbal threats, gym or homeroom teachers swinging as hard as they could in front of the classmates. All I saw was sadistic faculty being given the right to bash someone’s self esteem and butt and tramitize kids into learning how adult men enjoy humiliating and scaring kids. The Satan stuff is all over the Bible and Islam and killing non believers is quite alright. Didn’t witches get burned alive during the Inquisition? Modern day satanists probably take the subject of the Bible and give it a different spin.

  • They *don’t* portray themselves as followers of Satan. So whether or not a literal or biblical Satan is a liar is irrelevant.

  • Agreed. Apparently someone needs to tell these folks that even IF Satanic Temple members worshipped Satan of the bible (and let’s be clear: they do *not*); if a Satanist says the sky is blue, that doesn’t mean you should argue that it’s actually green. Yet these idiots are doing exactly that.

  • Springs, quoted: “It has come to our attention that outside groups may try to force their beliefs on our community …”

In the meantime, the rest of the Religious Right movement in the US continues its relentless, decades-old effort to force their beliefs on everyone in the country. Hypocrite much?

To be clear, I’m pretty sure Jesus wouldn’t approve of this king of hypocrisy: https://www.agnostic-library.com/ma/whats-wrong-with-christians-being-hypocritical/ But hey, what could this cynical, cold-hearted, godless agnostic heathen possibly know about such important and sacred things?

  • Fundamentalists believe in a universe which is perfectly black-&-white, and in which everyone and everything is allied either with their God (and thus, with them) or with Satan (and thus, is against them). As they see it, anyone who purposely rejects their own religion, must — by definition — be a follower of Satan. This is especially true of atheists, since they don’t think it’s even possible to be an “atheist” at all. Everyone, you see, has a god in his/her life. Either it’s their God, whom they call “the ‘Real’ God,” or it’s the false god, Satan.

They even can spout a few Bible verses which, they think, “prove” this absolute dichotomy. The most common of them is this quotation of Jesus:

He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” (Mt 12:30)

So it’s not something they plan to give up, any time soon.

  • God, that sentence stuck out to me too – I was like, um, your groups are constantly poking their nose in where they don’t belong!

  • “Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.” Proverbs 23:13-14

“He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” Proverbs 13:24

  • It was just a matter of time before a Christian found the Biblical justification for assaulting children. Your post is a definite Poe’s Law moment.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law

Abusing children for Jesus is so widely accepted in some circles there is even an expression for it. To “train up” a child.

  • Think about it this way:
    # of people killed in the name of Satan: 20-25 (Mostly the work of Richard Ramirez)
    # of people killed in the name of God: Millions and counting

  • Dear Satanic Temple members and supporters,

Many of you are new to this site. Thank you for your contributions to this discussion. I wholeheartedly welcome you to add your voice to many other topics on this board as well.

  • WINDY Edward Cooper BS Boswell, wow, you really went over the top with the wrong BEANS for breakfast, didn’t you.

Stop BLOVIATING and get back to growing that BEARD. Your husband Jimmie Shortbeard can’t do that all on his own.

Chin DOWN. Beans in. You know the drill.

  • The People’s Front of Judea appreciates your remark and has no affiliation with the Judean people’s front. Just sayin…

  • Windy Edward, you don’t have time for IRONY like that. BEANS IN. Get back on that BEARD growing and stop BLOVIATING.

  • All true, and of course, it is no accident that this kind of nonsense is occurring in Texas.

This is really all about power and other things. Maybe the officials in the school should be punished, too, for their own sins and transgressions.

  • You may well be right, but I’m sure there are plenty of “educated” folks–“educated”, at least on paper–who believe the crap they hear in their “churches”.

  • Proverbs 29:15 “The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.”
“Spare the rod, spoil the child” etc.,etc. SIMPLE=you love your child, you guide him, even with the rod and reproof. SATAN=the great deceiver.

  • These so called “Christians” are simply members of the cult started by John Calvin & Oliver Cromwell. They also worship their paper pope, AKA the King James twisted version of the Bible. They ignore the fact it was “translated” to support the heresy of the “Divine Right of Kings”.

  • If you don’t actually believe in Satan, the point of labeling yourselves the Satanic Temple is what, exactly? Just curious.

  • All of Christianity is based on the idea that a single man’s sacrifice of his life via torture was necessary for the world’s salvation.

  • They are messing with you. The point of their organization is to hoist Christians on their own petard by getting a “Satanic” “religion” involved in public life.

  • Actually, the Biblical meaning of “Satan” is simply “Adversary” I wonder if the Temple of Satan is coming more from that angle, rather than that angel.

  • In a sense they are “portraying” themselves that way, until closer inspection reveals that they are not actual followers of Satan. Neither is the Church of Satan (LaVeyan).

  • Seems relevant to the political situation, when we know that the exact same number of white evangelicals voted for Trump.

  • Somebody believes if satanists did sacrifice children they would get away with it because of their beliefs. Scary considering they want to lock up or hang all gays.

Free exercise of religion is not absolute per scotus/scalia. No children were hurt in the writing of this message.

  • Possibly, but the image both the Satanic Temple and Church of Satan are going for is the Christian one: a malevolent, demonic being standing in opposition to God. The satan (lowercase s deliberate) as adversary image is one that is found in the Hebrew Bible, Job most importantly.

  • I heard that during their masses, Satanists engage in ritualized symbolic cannibalism!

Wait… wrong notes, sorry. That’s Christians. Christians do that.

  • Yes, in spirit at least, if not in fact, they are descended, via a number of twists and turns of history and theology, from Calvinism. Their loyalty to Calvin’s predestination is questionable, but their commitment to the harsh and uncompromising worldview of Calvin and Cromwell is not.

As for their allegiance to the KJV, I’ve found that to be waning. Yeah, there are KJV-Only churches, but in my experience they’re becoming less common. Back in the early 80s when I was a fundie, the church I’d attended and most of my fellow fundies used the NIV. It may well be the most common version among them, now. (Its popularity among fundies helps explain the firestorm that erupted when a gender-neutral version of the NIV was released a few years ago. Fundies, as you know, are opposed to gender-neutral language.)

One last thing: Fundies aren’t “so-called ‘Christians’.” They are, simply, “Christians.” There’s no such thing as “a ‘Real’ Christian” as opposed to “a ‘fake’ Christian.” There are only “Christians,” of many varieties, because there are numerous ways to “follow Christ” (which is what a Christian is, a “follower of Christ”). To think otherwise is to fall for the “No True Scotsman” fallacy. Other Christians may find their version of Christianity disagreeable and untrue to Jesus’ teachings, but that doesn’t mean fundies aren’t doing what they think Jesus told them.

  • Have you ever noticed the large amount of new people who decide to post on satan articles on christian news sites and their love of trolling christians? They are the face and attitude of TST and they show themselves for what they are. They are bigots and anti-christian who think they are so clever. I find it remarkable so many people are so deluded.

  • They are aware how he is portrayed in the Bible. The character of Satan they admire (but not worship) is the one portrayed in “Revolt of the Angels” by Anatole France.

  • Great question. The principle of atheistic Satanism has been the norm for Satanists for over 50 years now, originally spurred by Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey and his Satanic Bible (although the Satanic Temple now intentionally separates itself from LaVey’s followers).

Atheistic religion sounds like a contradiction in terms, but that’s because we’ve been raised in a society that treats “religion” and “theism” as synonyms. Historically there are a number of working examples of atheistic religions, like Revolutionary’s France’s Cult of Reason of the later Church of Humanity.

Neither of those lasted, of course, but they’re what you might call a proof of concept. Still extant examples include things like Shaker Friends, certain branches of Buddhism and Hinduism, and the millions of atheistic Jews in the world.

But okay, if you want to form an atheistic religions why employ Satan of all things? First, because western society has long conflated the devil with things that Satanists value: atheism, humanism, materialism, science, skepticism, LGBT rights, feminism, artistic liberty, positive sex, secular government. etc.

Millions of secular people have the experience of some fundamentalist whacko telling us we’re doing the devil’s work. So if “Satanic” is the word that society has chosen for those values, that’s the one we’ll use. And why should we be afraid of Satan or his stigma? We don’t believe any of this business to begin with.

Second, in Christian myth Satan is the universe’s first revolutionary. Christian myth frames this as a bad thing, but that’s because its rooted in a cultural norm that assumed the legitimacy of divine kings.

To a modern, liberal minded, post enlightenment thinker, it’s actually much easier and more natural to identify with the rebel than with the ruler. Particularly if you’re already a subversive artist or activist type.

Finally, I would point out that it’s not at all unusual to venerate the myth of Satan. Almost everyone in American culture does it, whether they realize it or not; Satanists did not invent the stories about the devil, devil worship, Black Masses, etc, Satanists did not write “Rosemary’s Baby” or “The Exorcist” or “Lucifer” and “Paradise Lost” and make those stories hits.

Other people did that, and they continue to do it because on some level the story of the devil is psychologically and emotionally gratifying for everyone. It must be, or else why would we keep it around instead of relegating it to history like so many millions of myths before it?

For a Satanist to find emotional gratification in the same story is therefore not at all unusual. The only difference between us and everyone else is that we approach the same material and the same psychological need from a different angle. The left hand rather than the right, or the back rather than the front.

Hope that answers some of your questions.

  • this is how Christ identifies satan:

    English Standard Version
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
If they want to identify with him, then this is who he really is

  • It’s true, Satan sat me down and told me he believed in me and that the power was inside me all along, and then I won the big game in front of everybody.

Or was that my dad? Sometimes these early memories get hazy…

  • No no, see, it’s the Evil Monkey In The Closet that you’ve got to watch out for. He’s the one behind all of this.

If you don’t believe me, it just proves that the Evil Monkey has gotten to you too. Try to argue your way out of that one.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised at the amount deluded, Ypoikes – I believe we are in the last days when there will be a pulling away from the church, so that doesn’t surprise me. They are under delusion though – reprobate mind, the whole shot. Maybe they come here to hear the truth about Christ, and learn they have itching ears, rather than a desire for the truth?

  • “My parents smacked me around and I turned out fine,” they say. Meanwhile, the rest of us quietly wonder whether they’re giving themselves too much credit…

  • No. They’ve put themselves under his name. They are portraying themselves as followers of satan. Satan is a liar is hardly irrelevant.

  • You are identifying with satan. You don’t deserve any more recognition unless by doing so, you want help to become a Christian.
Are you going to try to turn satan into our latest victim too?

  • Applying your logic: They put themselves under his name. They are portraying themselves as followers of Jesus yet they daily set about their lives inflicting physical and psychological harm upon the innocent. They blaspheme against their Jesus by saying they are loving others by “telling” non-conformists the truth, via rather heinous behavior.

  • Is this not how televangelists, fundamentalist, evangelicals, and puritans have been operating since invading this continent?

  • Actually, misusing a child is a big thing with Christ, Spud. He has no difficulty with a spanking, but, abusing a child is a different thing
Matthew 18:6 – English Standard Version
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

  • Michael and Debi Pearl have handed out this advice and made money from publishing their twisted ideology. There are dead children now as their pathetic parents fell for this felonious advice.

  • I bet there are a lot more dead children due to abortion, Navy. Something you may want to think about.

  • I’m interested to know what is behind the choice of the name using Satan. Is it to provoke religions to hypocritical indignity? Or are you using it in the original sense of the word, “Adversary”? Since you are against injustice and church-state infusion it would seem the latter would make more sense, with a side of ironic satisfaction from the former.

  • Actually, the character of Satan they most closely align with is the one depicted in fictional works like Paradise Lost and Revolt of the Angels.

  • “Actually, misusing a child is a big thing with Christ”

And a popular practice with clergy!

Too bad, the Christian, I responded to does not share your reticence towards abusing minors in the name of Jesus.

Of course your quote posits that Jesus would rather see dead children than one’s who do not believe in him. It is certain many of those self-professed followers of Jesus have fastened their own “millstones” around children to enforce their beliefs.

Actually come to think of it, your citation is rather repugnant but very indicative about how little Christians are supposed to regard the lives of others when compared to their personal beliefs. Very appropriate for you Sandi.

  • I, as well as many modern Satanists, view the Bible as a collection of myths and parables, and not that much different than the literary works I just mentioned.

  • Thank you spud. I misjudged you a bit though. I thought you were smart enough to understand what I was saying. Sorry.

  • Growing up in the household of a Baptist preacher I witness excessive use of “discipline by belt” or whatever else was on hand. My parents got more mellow over the years and began less and less to hit us, regardless of whether you call it discipline, it is still hitting by definition. What my parents didn’t seem to get was what affected me most was when I saw the disappointment on their faces after doing something wrong. The hitting only made me want to avoid them. The disappointment drew me to empathize and rethink.

When I became a parent, I spanked my son five times, three times I was wrong about who did what. After that I began simply explaining to my son, age eight, what mistake he had made, how to correct it, and assured him of my love. We have a great relationship. Sometimes he even calls me just to talk. I think corporal punishment is just that–punishment, which is the least effective means of correction existent In fact it has proven that punishment has results that work against the desired outcome.

  • Something you may want to think about is the fact that rabid anti-abortionists manage to vanish into the ether as soon as that infant takes its first breath. When they can’t shame the unwed mother into dumping the infant into their adoption mill, they leave. Sure, there are an insufficient number of “centers” who tie their contributions to mandatory religion indoctrination but it’s only their religion that applies.

  • Amazingly enough, in my non-religious household, we managed to raise two great adults who graduated college, and have great jobs. Neither has ever been arrested, no one got pregnant, or got anyone pregnant. They are both drug free, and don’t even consume alcohol.

And we did it without spanking either one. Ever.

And I sure as hell would have never allowed anyone else to hurt either of them, for any reason, in any manner.

  • LOL! Maybe if you had directed the comment towards the person who posted the “pro beating” citation, I might have taken a different approach here.

  • What is the problem with that? You have no trouble with these satanists applying their own religion.

  • If he did walk the earth the way religious literature insists, he’s portrayed primarily as a humble and generous man in almost all of them. I have no difficulty with this Jesus.
What I resent is the use of the man’s name to inflict harm upon the innocent. That’s a cop out to dodge accountability and atonement.

  • If logic ever entered the picture, the Satanic Temple wouldn’t need the billboards.

Public schools in the community would not be giving teachers license to assault students.

Evidently assaulting students is something supported by “good Christian folk” in that town.

  • It’s not against my mandate to accept claims as likely true. I’m a skeptic, which means that I require evidence sufficient enough to match the claim. I don’t start by asking if Christ is the one True God or Messiah, I start by asking if there is good reason to believe that ANY god or supernatural realm exists in the first place. I have found none so far, so I have no reason to believe.

  • As I keep telling you, only God has the right to life and death. He makes the choice of when. You don’t like His decisions, become a Christian and talk to Him about it. Telling me doesn’t earn you anything.

  • Gen 22 Abraham is told to sacrifice his son, so he carries it out until stopped last minute as a test of Faith.

Joshua 6:21 They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it – men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

I mean, I could go on and on.

  • Disappointingly, I’ve never seen it. General consensus among chapter members is that it’s okay, but just okay, and then usually the conversation moves on to “American Gods.”

  • The same way American Christians use Christ’s name, but follow not his teachings.

You use his name to fulfill your human sacrifice fetish, while feigning moral superiority.

We use Satan’s name to make fun of the simpleton’s who believe in the boogeyman.

  • Its a good show if one sees it for what it is. A “Cop/Weird partner” action/comedy. The leads are a bit grating but the supporting players really click and get some great humorous moments.

American Gods was phenomenal. But I am biased. I will watch anything with Ian McShane. The guy can read off a phone book and make it sound enthralling

  • this whole article is about a large group of Christians who can’t even stand seeing a name of an organization on a billboard, yet you call the other side “anti-christian”? A corporal punishment christian, seeing any different viewpoints as evil is now calling someone else a “bigot”. Let that sink in for a moment. So scared to see a town that is dominated by crosses, churches, religious government and education leaders, have a *single* piece of advertisement for someone that is not like you.

If the character Jesus from the Bible walked America today, I guarantee he’d sit in contempt of the Religious Right wing of this country.

  • But “Satan” is not just the name of the protestant devil.

It’s also the name of the ancient Hebrew adversary who put obstacles in the paths of the prideful and foolish; and the name of the flawed but humane revolutionary in “Paradise Lost”; and the name of the great humanist in Anatole France’s “The Revolt of the Angels,” and of the spiritual guide who inspired William Blake’s beautiful and subversive religious poetry and paintings.

It’s the name of the vain but paradoxically servile gentleman’s gentleman in “Man and Superman,” and of the spirit of satirical wit in Mark Twain’s writings about Genesis and the judge of the human condition in his last, unfinished novel. It’s the spirit of paganism revived in Jules Michelet’s histories and of secular reason overthrowing ancient superstition in Carducci’s “Hymn to Satan.”

All of these are Satan, and many, many more. Once you liberate yourself from the superstitious belief in a literal devil cackling down in a real burning hell, you realize that nobody’s devil is necessarily any more valid than another. And humanity has furnished us with a great many instructive Satans over the years from which we draw our own inspiration.

  • I am a fan. Especially once the writers really decided to embrace humor in the characters and situations whole hog after the first season.

  • no no no, not “abused”.

    “disciplined”

And now, because of the diligent discipline of their figures of authority, these christian adults are extremely well balanced individuals! So balanced that they will take every opportunity to shove their faith down the throats of anyone within ear shot, but will scream bloody murder at even seeing a hint of a belief that is different to theirs. And that belief is not even being pressed on anyone, in any way.

Somehow, not sparing the rod somehow still spoiled the child.

  • It looks like most of this discussion is taking place between folks who do not bother to read a thing about the record of beating children and the violence it promotes in them for the rest of their lives. I doubt any official or that school nor hardly anyone living in that town has ever cracked a book on the subject and are more interested in ‘showing everybody who is boss’ than solving at school discipline problems that are probably deeply rooted in the at home use spanking and hitting and intimidation. It will do no good to a community afraid to know what is true if it might differ from what they like go around saying. But here ya go anyway: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C44&q=corporal+punishment&btnG=&oq=racism+

  • well, the waters are muddied because “satan” is purely a construct of the early Catholic faith, and has no real Biblical merit. The same with Hell.

“Lucifer” was originally the name given to a babylonian king who was seen as their enemy. And Biblically this is a different being than the Serpent in the garden, or the fallen angel. It is all creatively constructed to sow fear and lump one great big bad guy into an easy figure to point fingers at.

  • Hey at least that crowd is civil, well spoken and well meaning.

By all means go through the list NotJesus posted for TST principles. See what you find so hateful or objectionable there.

When the subject is white supremacists or neo-confederate silliness we get some of the most hateful ignorant miscreants coming out of Reddit to post here

    “christian news sites”

RNS is not a Christian news site. None of the Satanists have been trolling Christians here. Quite the opposite. It is the Christians trolling the Satanists here

“They are bigots and anti-christian who think they are so clever.”

Where do you find any of that? The only really hysterical and hateful remarks coming out here are from the Christians posting.

” I find it remarkable so many people are so deluded.”

    Dramatic irony at its finest.

  • I have read plenty about TST, thanks. The Baphomet statue they’ve adopted as their symbol is something a Christian Crusader accused the allegedly heretical Knights Templar of worshipping. In other words, a Christian mind conceived the statue the TST uses. The “Eternal Rebel in opposition to arbitrary authority . . . the heretic who questions sacred laws and rejects all tyrannical impositions,” in other words the “literary Satan” mentioned on the website, is still itself based on the Christian conception. Those literary works would not exist without it.

  • Some of us are waiting for the world’s wisdom to catch up with that of Christ.
The people in this group are appealing to worldly wisdom in an effort to deceive.

  • Yet the Lord used it as a tool to teach Israel and Christ felt it was important enough to take from us, onto Him, when He chose to die on the cross for us.
I don’t think we know the real story about punishment and this group is not answering it.

  • I already talk to Christ on a regular basis, Spud. He isn’t pro-beating, but He is pro punishment.

  • purple, I would say, for royalty – which He is.
But then, he died so His blood could wash us white as snow in reference to our sin, so maybe white?
But then, His blood is what cleanses us, so maybe red?
    Ask Him.

  • oh yes……wikipedia is theeee source…..rofl
Satan is a murderer, liar, deceiver and you have shown me nothing else. Thanks, but I’ll believe Christ when it comes to satan.

  • How about this, when God gets his own Disqus account I will tell him. Until then, I will go through his minions, flunkies and groupies.

  • Sandi is our regular fundamentalist troll. Do not bother with fact based or rational appeals. It is a waste of time. Snark is the sanest approach

  • Lark’s Law. Sooner or later a frustrated Christian will threaten an opponent in an online discussion with eternal damnation.

  • Are they really so concerned to protect kids from corporal punishment? Nah. It’s just one more opportunity to trash religion, to represent Christians as brutal, benighted bullies who beat up kids. That’s it. Within our culture there’s an easy formula for establishing yourself as a member of the enlightened elite: just trash religion. It’s that easy. That sets you apart from those lower class rubes and yahoos in Three Rivers! And calling your anti-religious organization Satanic is really good—shows that you really hate religion and aren’t bothered by any residual superstition—and hence that you are really smart, sophisticated and definitely upper middle class, transgressive, cool and a real intellectual. Better than a PhD—and a lot more fun than grad school!

  • your god is a murderer, yet you defend ihm. And since he said he would return while some of the people listening to him would still be alive, he’s a liar.

  • My best guess is that it is something deep in the gut (not the heart, as is often said) that causes people to hold those “beliefs” (not sure “beliefs” is the right word for something originating in the gut); and that beliefs originating in, or held in, the gut, short-circuit logical thinking.

The behavioral scientist Jonathan Haidt has studied this and written about it (www.jonathanhaidt.com).

  • God is the One who defined murder, Ben. I think He knows what He is doing. You want to call it “murder”…you’ve also been given a reprobate mind by Him to do that which is not good (Romans 1:28) so I won’t put much credence into your opinion about Him.

  • Hmm! They don’t hit kids. What in the world is controversial about that claim? It is certainly in line with every scientific study conducted regarding the subject.

  • Why do you assume it’s only religious folk who defend hitting kids? Oh, I forgot, all atheists are educated, enlightened, liberal upper middle class urban coastal knowledge workers who would never defend hitting kids, or think, say, or do anything declassé.

  • Well, it’s intended to focus on what you believe in. Atheists have no belief in a higher power.

  • You could even expand it to Islam, which also has Satan as the bad guy/liar/deceiver.

Satan also exists in Judaism, but is less fleshed out than the one in Christianity, which retcons the character by placing him in the Garden of Eden in the form of the serpent.

In all cases though, he is the adversary against the tyrannical, capricious God of Abraham.

  • “In all cases though, he is the adversary against the tyrannical, capricious God of Abraham.”
thank you for your testimony and for proving the goals of the enterprise.

  • It’s the metaphor that is adopted and is expanded to include rebellion to arbitrary authority, which in America takes the form of the religious right wing, and in other places of the world, theocracies like the ones in Iran and Saudi Arabia.

  • If you read the article, you would find that the “good Christian folk” are the ones systematically physically abusing children using taxpayer money to do it.

But you didn’t. So there you go.

  • So if you don’t worship satan why call it a satanic temple? Yup all lot of thought was put into the name that doesn’t mean what it says.

  • Just to bring you up on facts only catholics worship the pope. Also the catholic church don’t use the King James and besides that their are many other versions that are more accurate. Also the only ones that whine about “it’s a translation” are those like you because most biblical Christian know the bible is translated from the original languages Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek to English. Which makes you whole rant pretty much moot.

  • First lets quote some numbers from Atheists/Secularists genocides just in the 20th century alone. Over 180 million deaths/murders has occurred from Atheist Dictatorships/Rulers/Regimes, etc. From Stalin, Mau Tse Tung, Hilter, Pol Pot, Hideki Toji, Leopold II of Belgium, Kim IlSung, Meghistu and the list goes on and on. And please, before you give me the “Hilter claimed he was a Christian” garbage you atheists like to quote so often, even secular Historians agree on the main points concerning that Hitler’s religious views were nothing more than a political move to advance his way into power in a country where the dominant religion was Lutheran. Once in power, he burned the Bibles in the Churches along with the schools and replaced them with Mein Kampf, along with sending the churches leaders into death camps along with the Jews. Christians today would call him a Anti-Christ (lead by Satan) as his actions were not Biblically based in any sense of scripture. Unfortunately Christians are not marked by God when we are born again other than what fruits we bear once transformed and continued during the sanctification process. However, the Bible is full of advice on discernment of showing how to distinguish False Prophets, False Leaders, False Teachers and those of the Anti Christ i.e. False Christians such as Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama or any other so called professing Christian whose lifestyle and actions are contrary to God’s Word and teachings. I have no problem whatsoever calling someone a Non-Christian, no matter what political party, church they attend, etc. if I hold them up to Gods word.

  • But according to those like you our God doesn’t exist therefore He is guilty of nothing you claim…….HOWEVER…..

First lets quote some numbers from Atheists/Secularists genocides just in the 20th century alone. • But if as those like you claim our God don’t exist why rant about Him. Also by reading your comments our non-existent God apparently lives rent free in atheists heads.

  • So how many people did those that didn’t believe in God murder over the last 2 centuries>>>>>>>>>180 million.

  • Yeah I agree it’s an outdated archaic practice and now we have students murdering each other, students assaulting teachers, students graduating illiterate, STD’s in epidemic proportions and uncontrolled drug abuse. Things are so much better since there is no longer discipline allowed in our schools. When I went to school in the late 60’s early 70’s when discipline was stopped the drug problem began and in the last three decades there is a murder in the high school I attended at least once a year. So as you can see the new and improved secular values are working out so much better.

  • No, you did not. And notably, yet again, you cannot counter what I said with anything of substance.

  • Hey, what you do in Wanda’s House of Pain is your own thing. But public school teachers have no business laying their hands on students.

So not only did you not read the article, you support public school teachers assaulting students.

  • Not exactly. When one gets to know right-wing blowhards, inevitably there comes a part where they say, “My Daddy whupped me with a [belt, wooden spoon, etc.]….”

  • A public service to who? I sad there are people like you out there that think other people must be forced to believe as you do despite you know little to nothing about Christianity. The fact is I see you a a very bigoted hateful person that has nothing better to do but attempt to bully those that call you out on your assumed superior intelligence which in reality you are just a scared and insecure little person who needs to feed your ego attempting to bully others. Hows it working for ya?

  • Actually, Sandi, your religion really is in steep decline, and that’s GREAT news for humanity.

  • You expressed your opinion and I proved it in error. So which of my points do you think are wrong?

  • You’re a little late with that news Reason. Christ foretold that two thousand years ago. It just proves Him to be correct.

  • Satan’s stance against the metaphorical tyranny of God. Also doesn’t hurt that pushy religious-right folks get their underwear all bunched up in knots when the Satanic Temple wants to share the public square with them.

We find out who is for true religious freedom when a religion with Satan in its name pays a visit.

  • I didn’t assume that. We’re talking about a particular subset of Christians here.
But if you want to go in for absurd statements, read what you wrote about ALL ATHEISTS.

  • False as usual from you Bob. In none of the cases you present were the killers acting according to any tenet of atheism. In fact, they were acting much as your own deity of your horrid Christian myth, in theocracies with themselves at the head.

  • So my God was a killer that you claim doesn’t exist but you give a free pass to those that murdered over a 180 million people that did exist. Please explain the difference because I’d love to hear your excuses.

  • yes it is.
    2 Peter 3:3-4 ESV
Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”
It is amazing watching scripture come true before one’s very eyes.

  • Again how do you justify what you claim a non-existent God did with what can be proven historically that those that don’t believe in God murdered 180 million people in the last 2 centuries? Please make an attempt to answer my question honestly.

1.) Do you believe in God ?

2.) Did those that don’t believe in God murder 180 million men, women and Children in only the last two centuries?

  • Jude 1:18 ESV

They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.”

  • But how do you know they weren’t atheists? And which ones do you think weren’t atheists because I can give you more information contradicting you beliefs.

  • And I was proving your horrid beliefs lead to murdering 180 million people. What makes your beliefs any better than mine knowing recent history exposes yours as murderous.

  • You’re very close to the truth of it there. The Satanic Temple holds to the definition of the word “adversary” or “enemy of God”. Every individual satanist is, in fact, Satan. We’re a check against the ever present Christian influence and over reach. We fight for Women’s reproductive rights as well as protecting children, and taking a stark stance against violence and rape. As one of our tenets dictates that one’s body is inviolable and subject to one’s own will alone. We also defend LGBT rights against religious oppression(part of what drew me to them as I am trans) I recommend reading our 7 tenets. They’re more than reasonable.

I do derive some pleasure from watching Christians defending villainy so as to not recognize us as in the right. It reveals their true colors as self-righteous hypocrites.

  • I’m an ex-Christian suffered enough abuses at their hands. Thanks for invitation, but I’m no massochist.

  • Am I? I defend Women’s rights, protect children, stand up for the LGBT community. Meanwhile, Christian faiths play musical chairs to keep pedophile priest’s out of prison. Who’s the real evil here?

  • Satanic Temple Tenet #4 …

“The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.”

  • So then you can’t prove they weren’t atheists but just make unfounded opinions and really think I’ll accept them……you’re so very wrong.

  • I do not identify with Satan. He is a fictitious character used to frighten people to join Christianity. No. I identify AS Satan. Any who stand against religious oppression are. We are all adversaries of “God”. The conjured character allowing certain humans “divine” right to oppress their brothers and sisters.

  • Ok you’ve been lipping off about your circular reasoning and as of yet given any substantial evidence to back up anything you claim. So let’s do this your way. The burden of proof is on you to prove God doesn’t exist and if and when you can do this I will forsake what I believe and support atheism from that point on. Let’s see how honest you are or rather you think you are with this simple task?

  • But you foolish opinion doesn’t cancel the facts I posted and I can just let them know the name of the school I attended and the truth would be exposed. But thanks for proving my point by your disrespectful and asinine answer.

  • No actually I’m calling you out on your asinine point so please prove my God doesn’t exist or are you to embarrassed because you can’t?

Atheism is borne out of ignorance, false pride and arrogance.

  • So then you lack the honesty to back up your big mouth?

Atheism is borne out of ignorance, false pride and arrogance.

  • We’ll play your silly game shall we. Now which of these facts are wrong?

1.) Just to bring you up on facts only catholics worship the pope.

    2.) Also the
catholic church don’t use the King James and besides that their are many
other versions that are more accurate.

3.) Also the only ones that whine
about “it’s a translation” are those like you because most biblical
Christian know the bible is translated from the original languages
Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek to English. Which makes you whole rant pretty
    much moot.

  • I know all about “Christianity” and about “Christians.” I also know all about the Bible, too.

Let’s see: The English word “Christian” comes from Latin Christianus which comes from Greek χριστιανος (christianos), which is the genetive of χριστος (christos) meaning “annointed,” a title for Jesus referring to his being believed the Messiah. Thus, a “Christian” is a person (or thing) who is “of Christ,” or more specifically, a follower of Christ.

So yes, I know what that word means. (And now, you do too!) I also know that there are many ways to “follow (Jesus the) Christ” since, despite that a more-or-less accepted body of texts exists describing him, his teachings, and the religion he founded, there are still many ways of interpreting those texts. Another thing I know is that those Christians, or “followers of Christ,” have historically done an outstanding job of rationalizing away most of Jesus’ teachings and have cooked up any number of ways to put words they find more convenient into his mouth.

And I know the Bible. I know it front to back and to the front again. I’ve read it in several English translations, in Latin, in Luther’s vernacular German, and I’ve also read the New Testament in its original κοινη (koiné or “common”) Greek, too, and the Old Testament in the Septuagint (a Greek translation that nearly all early Christians knew). I can even recite parts of it from memory in that language. I can’t say I know any Christians who can do the same.

I also have studied Church history, and have read the Church Fathers in their original languages (mostly Greek, but a few, like Tertullian, in Latin). I’ve read the medieval scholastics, likewise in their original languages (mostly Latin), including their treatises, debates, correspondences, and compendia (e.g. Summa Theologica). I’ve read what’s available of the canons of the various ecumenical councils. I’ve read much of the writings of reformers and later Christians. Again, I don’t know any Christians who can say the same, aside from some who’ve been to Catholic divinity school (including a couple priests).

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly — I’ve been a fundagelical Christian myself. I know what they think. I know what motivates them. I understand them completely … having been on the inside of their movement … and often know them better than they do, themselves! They can’t lie to me, because I know the truth about them. And that truth, I’m sad to report, is not pretty.

Now, if there’s something I don’t understand about Christianity, I invite you to correct me. Go ahead. Tell me all about whatever it is I’ve gotten wrong about Christianity and its followers. But — be specific and clear. Telling me that I “know little to nothing about Christianity let alone the bible” is so vague as to be useless, and little more than a child’s playground taunt. Such drivel may be dismissed out-of-hand as the product of immaturity.

  • You’re not the least bit bothered by your obvious hypocrisy refusing to answer my rebuttal to your comment….. Because you opinion doesn’t change the fact those that believe there is no God murdered 180 million people and your recently created tenets fail to change history.

  • You tenets are a recent creation therefore your argument falls flat on it’s face.

Atheism is borne out of ignorance, false pride and arrogance.

  • No but I did expose the hypocrisy of atheism that when you continually lose your battles you go against what you fought for.

  • Interpreters fall into two categories: those who seek to interpret the passage objectively with respect for the original meaning of the authors, and those who have an agenda.

    And your agenda is what?

Christian is a believer in Christ did you notice the CHRIST in CHRISTian? And the name was actually meant to be derogatory….you know the way you and your atheist ilks use it.

  • What are you talking about? My churches roots stem from John the Baptist. John Calvin has his own following and is rather small compared the Luthor.

  • Actually, they have repeatedly proven themselves to be morally Superior to Christians in every possible way. Not that I expect much from Christians since all Christians are child-abusing terrorist pedophiles

  • Re: “Interpreters fall into two categories: those who seek to interpret the passage objectively with respect for the original meaning of the authors, and those who have an agenda.”

All interpreters of Christianity have an “agenda.” No one obeys Jesus’ teachings as they were written: https://www.agnostic-library.com/ma/scriptural-passages-christians-need-to-read-know-and-obey/

Re: “And your agenda is what?”

I’m not a Christian, so I don’t have one, where Christians’ sacred texts are concerned. I read them as what they are, then compare them to what Christians actually do with them.

Re: “Christian is a believer in Christ did you notice the CHRIST in CHRISTian?”

I already said that was the case. What part of that did you miss? If it will help, I’ll repeat what I already said:

“The English word “Christian” comes from Latin Christianus which comes from Greek χριστιανος (christianos), which is the genetive of χριστος (christos) meaning “annointed,” a title for Jesus referring to his being believed the Messiah. Thus, a “Christian” is a person (or thing) who is “of Christ,” or more specifically, a follower of Christ. ”

Re: “And the name was actually meant to be derogatory …”

If so, Christians appropriated it and used it themselves, fairly early on. They used it to speak of themselves in Acts (11:26, 26:28) and 1 Peter (4:16), so they had adopted it by the early 2nd century CE. You might be referring to Tacitus in his Annals, in XV.44, where he said (emphasis mine), Nero subdidit reos et quaesitissimis poenis adfecit quos per flagitia invisos vulgus Christianos appellabat (“Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace”). But Tacitus hadn’t said that “Christianus” was a “vulgar” (in English) term. It was, instead, the “common” or “the people’s” term.

Re: “… you know the way you and your atheist ilks use it.”

I’m not an atheist, so I have no idea what that’s about. In any event, the word “Christian” has been in used a long time, and not only by “atheists,” but by Christians themselves.

  • You just proved you know little to nothing about Christianity so I’ll start with some easy question for you.

Why did God give the 10 Commandments to His creation?

  • Which is strange, since many of us atheists are waiting for Christians to wake up and realize that there is absolutely no wisdom in the Bible at all.

  • and yet modern cognitive psychology has proven that physical punishment does not and cannot leads to improve behavior in children over a long-term. Never has, and never will. Just one more example of how the Bible has never been right about anything in all of history.

  • Re: “You just proved you know little to nothing about Christianity …”

Another of your vague, childish taunts. When you feel like telling me something specific that I don’t understand about your Christianity, please let me know. Until then, I have no intention of answering any of your questions.

  • and yet modern cognitive science and developmental psychology have conclusively proven that these approaches do not and cannot work. Just one more example of what I have been saying for two decades now. The Bible has never been right about anything in all of history.

  • Thank you for proving me correct about you lack of assumed knowledge of Christianity. Not being able to answer my question is showing just how much you don’t know. BTW it’s not a childish taunt it was in fact and honest question to start a honest dialog….something Christian mockers fear.

  • That is neither a refutation nor a rebuttal. You do understand that just calling something silly and laughing at it doesn’t make it not true. Not that I expect a Christian to understand.

  • Re: “… even secular Historians agree on the main points concerning that Hitler’s religious views were nothing more than a political move …”

If this is true, and you seem to think it is, you just debunked your claim that Hitler was driven solely by “atheism.” The above is a concession that he was motivated by his own selfish politics.

Also, Stalin was an Orthodox Christian … he’d even attended a seminary in his youth. So, he wasn’t driven by “atheism” either. Mao, Pol Pot, the Kims, etc. also were all motivated by their own self-serving politics, too. No “atheism” needed to explain anything they did.

That said … it’s inconceivable that Hitler and his cronies would ever have been motivated to try to extinguish Jews, if not for centuries of Christianity-inspired anti-Semitism. It simply could not have happened, without it.

  • he killed mankind by deceiving Eve. Christ had to then come here and die for us that we can live again.

  • You mean Stalin was a Christian like you are a Christian? BTW they all denied God Just like modern day atheists denied God. The only difference between atheists today and those of yesterday is the atheists of today created some tenets they think change history in some way. The fact is you all serve the same fascist tenets. .

  • Re: “Thank you for proving me correct about you lack of assumed knowledge of Christianity.”

Why won’t you tell me what, exactly, I’m wrong about? I think you can’t come up with anything — so you just cry like a sniveling child.

Re: “Not being able to answer my question is showing just how much you don’t know.”

It does nothing of the sort. What it shows is that YOU have no idea what you’re talking about, and refuse to engage in a real discussion about your own religion with someone who actually knows more about it than you do. In other words, it demonstrates your own intellectual cowardice.

Re: “BTW it’s not a childish taunt it was in fact and honest question to start a honest dialog….something Christian mockers fear.”

Actually, it very much IS a childish taunt. I explained that to you already. Also, asking me a question does NOT constitute correcting me on anything. It’s just more proof of your own intellectual cowardice and immaturity.

Oh, and believe me, there is absolutely nothing about Christianity that I “fear”! Not one single thing. I’m not afraid of you, your faith, threats of eternal perdition, or your big bad sky-tyrant.

  • He made a bet with god and lost. He let job pay the debt. That made him a welsher. Does that count?

  • Not at all since that is not what happened. He made a bet with God, that if he could do whatever he wanted to torture some poor schmuck, that schmuck would give up his faith. He lost the bet fair and square, and then God undid all the tortures. But in order to do all of that he had God’s permission to torture some poor innocent guy who never did anything wrong. That makes God the villain of the story, not Satan.

  • Honey, you can fool yourself all you want. You want to be Bozo, that’s fine, but you know not which you are playing with and my prayer for you is that someone keeps you in prayer until you stop the silliness. I’ll add you to my list.

  • Grow up and specify something about Christianity that I’m wrong about. Asking me your absurd questions cannot, and will never, do that.

  • Nowhere in any of the original copies or manuscripts the book does it say that the serpent in the garden was Satan. And, in fact, the serpent did not deceive Eve. The serpent told the truth. God lied to Adam and Eve, and the serpent called him out on it.

  • Except that nobody actually died. At all. They continued living, had a bunch of kids that wouldn’t have existed otherwise, and the story went on. In fact, in the garden the serpent is the only one who told the truth. God lied to Adam and Eve. And nowhere in any of the original manuscripts does it say that Satan was the serpent in the garden. That was added later as a justification.

  • 2 Timothy 4:3 – For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

  • no such thing as an ex-Christian and now I have given you far too much attention – which is what you seem to be seeking. God bless

  • Why did God give man the 10 commandments? How does it feel to not be in control of the dialog? This is what happens when you make foolish claims and are afraid to learn something you thought you knew. So let’s get on with the dialog and answer the question because you were the braggart that claimed to know about the Christian faith.

  • Re: “You mean Stalin was a Christian like you are a Christian?”

No, he was a Christian like many other Orthodox Christians from his homeland.

Re: “BTW they all denied God”

    So?

Re: “Just like modern day atheists denied God.”

You still haven’t established any relevance here. Wake me when you decide to give it a try.

Re: “The only difference between atheists today and those of yesterday is the atheists of today created some tenets they think change history in some way.”

What the hell kind of insane gibberish is that? Speak English. Or another language I happen to know (just to make it easy, you can choose from several: German, Latin, Irish, Greek, Slovak, Old Norse, or Coptic).

Re: “The fact is you all serve the same fascist tenets.”

Bzzzzt! Wrong. I’m no fascist. I’m also no atheist. Also, the only fascists in the US at the moment are Christofascists.

  • ROTFL. This cleansing with blood zombie Christian thing is so, well, gory. And dumb.

    And TAGPOE yet again!

  • You seem to be confusing a basic education in the humanities with “deception.”

Satan is a mythical figure, the only way he can deceive you is if you anthropomorphize him sufficiently to start regarding him like a real person.

  • TST LA is a great chapter, very large and very active. I’ve never met Ali, their chapter head, but I’ve heard good things. I’d get in touch with them and ask if they have any regular meetings coming up.

There’s nothing “special” that needs to be done to join TST, just show up and participate, if it strikes your fancy. You can also check out the TST Official Forum on Facebook for a more general group powow. (But don’t make any “Thanks for the add” posts after the mods add you, they hate that.)

  • This of course is a classic red herring: When criticized and without defense, play the martyr and act as if your accuser is in fact the real bad guy for daring to point out what you are in fact doing.

    An oldie but a goodie.

  • just one?

    2 Peter 3:2-3 ESV

That you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.

  • So when is the all knowing and powerful PsiCop going to answer my question….why did God give the 10 commandments to man?

  • 1 Corinthians 3:19 – English Standard Version

For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,”

  • I have read every book of apologetics there is. They all fail. I’ve read a dozen different versions of the Bible including the Codex Sinai, which is the oldest known version of the compiled Bible. I’ve also read enough Science and History to know that the abrahamic God has been conclusively proven to not exist. Pure mythology, nothing more.

  • Isn’t it amazing on just how superior the atheists think they are and don’t realize just who they are deceived by and yet argue their hilarious tenets as if they’ll make them like gods. Their conceit is astounding to say the least.

  • Some of you might also benefit from knowing that you can block most of the spammy Christian ads on this site by pointing tpc.googlesyndication.com to e.g. 127.0.0.1 (local host) in your /etc/hosts file on typical linux, or in windows/system32/drivers in some Windows versions, or otherwise setting a rule that blocks tpc.googlesyndication.com.

  • History is my witness and you opinion doesn’t change that fact. Now one thing all you atheist have in common is that you argue in circles when the facts I posted can’t be disputed because they are historical facts that can be found on the net. I did my homework now do yours. BTW a federal judge declared atheism a religion and again your opinion will never change that fact.

  • No, but I have established that I know more about the subject of Christianity in the Bible than you do. Word of advice? Never get into a Bible fight with an atheist. Any random atheist is almost guaranteed to know more about the Bible than you do.

  • Romans 1:22 – Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

  • Na don’t bother because atheism is confused enough about itself and I don’t want to cause you any more problems with your all to real aberrations. Please never assume atheist make me uncomfortable in any way because I get a kick out of your circular reasoning and incessant whining about Christians.

  • Goodness, Bob….you had me laughing above. I just have to repeat this scripture that I posted earlier. I think it says it all
Romans 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

  • I’m not sure…..they think they are so smart that they’ll try to come back with something to refute it, and that’s where they’ll start thinking about scripture, eh?

  • They tend to ignore scripture and focus on whatever else you said because the fear God’s word. I have found this out by their arrogant responses. All they want to do is accuse God of atrocities but then proclaim He doesn’t exist. A very arrogant and contradictory people.

  • Actually that is funny, eh? Accuse Him of wrong, and then He doesn’t exist. A little double minded, eh?
    James 1:8 -English Standard Version
he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

  • Again your opinion does not change a federals judges ruling. I deal with facts and if the scares you then you should stop responding. So please be my guest and show us how your arrogance changes a federal judges ruling?

  • The sad thing, in that they are looking for attention, is they will get it and not know what to do when they get it. Then, they’ll run to Christ.

  • Possibly but their minds may already be seared….. 1 Timothy 4:1-2: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.”

  • Remember their foolish circular contradictory logic…….we started a satanic church but it’s really nothing to do with satan but rather to mock Christians. They are indeed of the god of this world. I wonder if they’re even brave enough to mock islam but my belief is they’re scared to death of mocking islam.

  • Gotta love it when your outrage is at not hitting children. You might want to inspect your morality if that upsets you. When not assaulting children has you pissed off you’ve got issues.

  • -> “…will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths”

That is perfectly appropriate for followers of bronze age holy books. For the modern world, this is appropriate…

    Satanic Temple Tenet #5 …
“Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.”

  • I really don’t owe you anything because you’re too lazy as most atheist are to do your own research which you think gives you the right to make the foolish comments you do. It really doesn’t matter how or why the judge made the ruling but the fact the ruling was made that atheism is indeed a breligion because an atheist forced that ruling because, and this is hilarious he wanted to start an atheist PRISON study group. You atheists are your own worst enemy. But just the same here’s another factoid for you that lead up to this ruling…..The Supreme Court has said a religion need not be based on a belief in
the existence of a supreme being. In the 1961 case of Torcaso v.
Watkins, the court described “secular humanism” as a religion. BINGO. Bwahahahahah .

  • Please point out what you think was not a fact? BTW I expect you won’t disappoint me by bloviating excessively.

  • You like when spankings are dished out? Get some paddles and whips…and you should become “Mistress Louiseyvette”.

  • Yup, right now I’m watching Masterpiece Theatre, sipping my French Cognac, slicing some goat’s milk cheese…all within 100 miles of an ocean.

  • Yeah I absolutely agree atheists seem to be completely confused by the differences between discipline and child abuse.

  • You realize endless troll posting here is quite a “wordly” thing to do. Haven’t you heard about Benedict Option yet?

  • Better yet…

    Satanic Temple Tenet #1 …
“Strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.”

  • But it’s the Christian clergy that doesn’t understand that raping children is child abuse, or maybe they think it’s just discipline.

  • That is a conflation, not necessarily germane to what is essentially a local philosophical conflict.

  • It doesn’t matter if I’m verbose or succinct, your infantile response never deviates from its practiced form.

  • As is yours with respect to the reality of God, but don’t worry that ain’t goin’ to last forever.

  • Um, ‘scuse me–I was suggesting, facetiously, that YOUR assumption was that atheists were all good enlightened people who would never recommend hitting kids, hence that the defense of hitting kids would never reflect adversely on atheism. My, my I would have expected that a terribly smart, sophisticated intellectual religion-trasher would have gotten that.

  • You have no “case” to “rest” because you haven’t identified anything I’ve said about Christianity which is wrong.

Grow up, for the first time in your life, pull up your “big boy” pants, and tell me exactly what it is I’ve said about your religion which is in error.

And no, I’m not answering your childish, insipid question. You can keep typing it into Disqus responses until your fingers fall off — but I absolutely will never answer it, because doing so has nothing whatever to do with what you claim I’ve said about Christianity which is in error.

Have I made myself clear to you? Are you going to continue being an infantile little whiner, or are you going to finally summon the courage to tell me what it is, exactly, that I’ve said about Christianity which is in error?

  • Yes the catholic church is responsible for hiding such heinous things but then again the bible is quite clear about giving rapists the death penalty. However those like you took that consequence off the table for being inhumane. So those like you are just as responsible for those rapes to continue instead of being handled justly. But then again it’s not only Priests that commit that crime but is also running rampant in your newly created secular society and happens more frequently than by Priests or in any church.

  • SATAN is the great deceiver, and you are one of his victims. Modern cognitive psychology
is mostly smoke and mirrors, for weak and gullible people. The bible is the word of GOD when understood correctly. KEEP THE FAITH.

  • Your refusal to answer why God gave the 10 commandments proves you know nothing about the Christian faith…..so again case closed.

  • Illogical. You’re confusing my refusal to answer your question with an inability to answer it. They are not the same thing. You’re leaping to a fallacious conclusion about me.

Again, what is it, precisely, which I’ve said about Christianity which is not correct? You’ve repeatedly insisted I’m wrong, but so far have refused to identify how. If you can’t name one, then how wrong can I possibly be?

  • Why does the qestion about the 10 commandment have you in such a rage that you can’t answer it? After all you claimed you know everything about Christianity?

  • Uh, Bob, no, the tenets of atheism, lack of belief in god, haven’t changed. Wow, RoR really pegged you.

  • Way to miss RoR’s point. Present a tenet of atheism that demands killing. Psst: there aren’t any. But your Christian operations manual presents many demands on you to kill animals and people, and your god kills repeatedly throughout your fairy tales.

  • You’ve plainly got history wrong. And yet again, you can’t cite a tenet of atheism that demands killing, but your “word of god” instructs you to kill repeatedly for ludicrous reasons. Stone them…

  • Psst. Sandi, we are a lot smarter than you are. Tough luck -you lost the genetic lottery, and lolling won’t change that for you.

  • Actually, we are equal opportunity atheists. We mock all skydaddy fairy tales, not just your own Christian one.

Now, Sandi and Bob, you shouldn’t be consorting intimately like that when Sandi’s beard is only knee-length.

  • Bob, the only tenet of atheism is lack of belief in god. That was so long before your few thousand – year old fairy tales were written, and hasn’t changed.

And seriously, way to miss RoR’s points. Repeatedly. You’re not the sharpest tool in the shed…

  • Yeah RoR sure did get me knowing atheism is just another cultic religion.

The Supreme Court has said a religion need not be based on a belief in
the existence of a supreme being. In the 1961 case of Torcaso v.
Watkins, the court described “secular humanism” as a religion

Even when you tag team you still lose the argument despite your bullying tactics.

  • Sandi, what you speak of as “foretelling” is entirely specious when no date and details are given. Anyone can say “support is going to decline” and eventually be right.

Zero points for claimed prophecy there,
    and LOL to you.

  • Again just because of your “recently” created tenets doesn’t really prove anything because humanists do still murder as well as atheists but then agian you have no proof it doesn’t happen because of your silly tenets. So explain why the murder rates exploded since those like you kicked God out of society?

  • Windy Edward Cooper BS Boswell, you’ve never been SUCCINCT.

Now stop wagging that PUNY tangled beard at Sandi. Your husband Jimmie Shortbeard will get jealous and you have a LOT of combing to do.

  • So you’re going to continue atheisms aberration that a God you say doesn’t exist instructs us to kill. Think about that a while before you continue to embarrass yourself with your non-stop circular thinking.

  • Yeah we know just how foolish you are doing something that you can’t seem to prove. Please be my guest and do your best to prove God doesn’t exit until then I’ll just laugh hysterically at your foolish circular thinking.

  • No Sandi. LOL at you.

Michael presented valid comments, and supported them, whereas you just puffed and dumped. Big difference.

  • More bloviating by Windy Edward Cooper BS Boswell. Ed, get back to work on that BEARD or you won’t be able to entwine with Jimmie for the rapture capsule.

  • Please point to that source because I need a good laugh because as far as history goes the bible is the oldest accurate history that we have. All other forms are based on assumption and conjecture.

  • That whole death on the cross thing was unnecessary. Well, maybe not for your non-omnipotent “god” LOL.

  • Faith is a horrible thing to have. Faith is believing in things without any evidence, or believing in things despite evidence that proves them wrong. Why would anybody want to have faith in anything?

Historically speaking, the Bible has never been right about anything. Ever. If you can point to any single thing in the Bible that the Bible got right, I would be extremely impressed.

The abrahamic god, the god of the Christians Jews and Muslims, has already been conclusively proven to not exist. Likewise the Satan character in The Bible has been proven to not exist. I think it is time for you to grow up and stop believing in fairytales.

  • It’s a shame you atheists can’t deal with facts pointing to your hypocrisy……oh wait both of you missed that point did you? .

  • Really then please point to what date these tenets were created then we’ll both know how deceptive your are and they didn’t exist before 20 years ago. My thinking is you won’t give a date but will embarrass yourself farther by bloviating useless information.

  • You repeating RoR’s unfounded claims doesn’t disprove humanists/atheists didn’t commit these atrocity’s. Just to update your silly claims Christians don’t sacrifice animals and when they were sacrificed they were also eaten and only certain small parts were burnt. You atheist really need to get your propaganda in order….oh wait……

  • There are all kinds of things I could expect, like courtesy and accuracy, but obviously, I’m going to be disappointed. For the record, I am quite supportive of religion in general, as long as it isn’t used as a weapon or as an excuse for bad behavior…

As in supporting the idea that anybody but the parents of a child has any right to spank or hit a child…

Or that in a website that deals with religion, in an article that deals with the reactions to a protest on the subject by religious people…

Or as in attacking someone as an elitist bully for pointing it out.

But whatever you need to believe in order to make yourself it to be a poor persecuted victim of those mean old atheists. For the record, I have stated many times I have no issue with religion itself, though I am an atheist. If it makes your life better, and you a better person, I’m all for it.

  • As always, your reasoning is off the edge.

Atheists have no belief in a god that exists. You believe in a god that exists, not us. The god you believe exists instructed you to kill: withches, gay people, Muslims, cathars, other Christians. King Leopoldo was in fact a catholic, as was Belgium before, during, and after his reign.

We merely point out that fact.

  • And it must be noted that Germany, and its European allies in WWII, was Christian before the war, during the war, and after the war. Germany is Christian today.

Hitler did not personally kill 6 million Jews, but Germans (and Hungarians, Romanians, and a host of others) did.

  • 2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

  • John 12:40 ESV

“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”

  • John 8:12 ESV

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

  • 1 Timothy 6:20 – English Standard Version

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,”

  • Jame 3:6For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
We’ve seen a fine example of this, also.

  • Embarrassing atheist with one comment is dumping say it isn’t so…Bwahahahahah you’re kidding right? Or is it you can’t handle the truth the atheism imitates Cgristianity….which is it?

  • I got one of them trolling me just today.

    Proverbs 16:28

A froward person soweth strife: and a taleteller maketh division among princes.

And they are a very froward people.

  • Look at who they have named themselves after……right?
Look at the attitude of the respondents. All you need to do is bring satan into something and off they go. A hateful crowd without a leader.

  • If you want to protect children, check into NAMBLA. They marched with Hay in pride parades. They missed a parade and Hay wore something on his t-shirt saying that he was with NAMBLA. Try to do something useful for a change.

  • Spare me your condescension puleeeze (‘if it makes your life better…’)

Consider what the billboard said, viz. ‘Our religion doesn’t believe in hitting children’. Let’s look at the speech act there, and the presupposition. The billboard did not say ‘Hitting children is bad’ or even ‘The Satanic Temple repudiates corporal punishment’. It said, ‘OUR religion doesn’t believe in hitting children’ carrying the presupposition that other religions do—and, ‘nyah, nyah, WE don’t’.

Note also, that the policy to which the Satanic Temple was objecting was an initiative of a secular body—the Three Rivers school district board. There is no reason to assume that it was initiated or supported by any religious body or that it was religiously motivated, and so no reason suggest, as the billboard did, that any religious issue was involved. Except, of course, the assumption by the Satanic Temple’s constituency of enlightened atheists that this dumb policy any other dumb policy that the yokels of Three Rivers instituted must of course be religiously motivated. Or more likely, that this was just another opportunity to take a pot shot at us nasty, brutal, ignorant religious folk.

I’m happy to give you accuracy. Re-read the article on which you commented and see if you can find anything to suggest that the corporeal punishment policy the community supported was religiously motivated, or that they were using religion as a weapon or excuse for bad behavior as you suggest. Read carefully: the citizens of the town who mentioned religious concerns did not object to the Satanic Temple’s opposition to the policy on religious grounds or claim that they supported the school district’s policy on religious grounds. They objected to the Satanic Temple’s interference and suggestion that a bad policy was motivated by bad religion—to the Satanic Temple’s gratuitous, self-righteous, self-congratulatory, anti-religious grandstanding.

And it does get old and tired doesn’t it, the Satanic Temple’s brave stance in South Texas? Reminiscent of Mencken’s reportage of the Scopes Trial—head to a town in fly-over country to trash the local ‘rubes’ and ‘yahoos’ as he put it. I suppose it’s a hobby, but I don’t see why they or you merit ‘courtesy.’

  • ROTFL. Bob, you simply lost the argument. You still can’t state what tenet of atheism demands killing, because no such tenet exists.

  • I was born and raised a catholic until I actually read and studied the bible and became a born again Christian as per John 3:3. There are so many heresies in the catholic church there no sense arguing about them to those that choose to be blind to them. You pope claims to be the vicar of Christ and that is Christ on earth……not found i the bible. You pope claims to speak ex-cathedra which means extra-revelation in which the bible is complete and no farther revelation is necessary……not found in the bible. There are many more heresies but I think you get the drift.

  • ROTFL. Bob, we’re laughing at you and the repeated irony in your posts that you can’t grasp.

    ROTFL. ROTFL.

  • My leader is the Flying Spaghetti Monster and unlike your mucho killer dude, the FSM nourishes and is never violent.

See http://venganza.org for a far better and nicer god than your pathetic deadman-on-boards dude.

  • ROTFL. The worst thing that could happen to Bob was being “born again”. Bad enough that he was born once.

  • That’s your own group, Sandi, the one with a leader that doesn’t exist.

    ROTFL. And another TAGPOE!!!!!

  • Funny how you atheist created the “flying spaghetti monster god” out of fear over something you claim doesn’t exist.

  • Bob, insulting us doesn’t help win converts to your cult, which is in major decline anyway.

    So, you get another…

    …TAGPOE!!!!

    ROTFL.

  • ROTFL. Lisa was spot-on as usual.

So Sandi what was the date that the prophecied event was going to happen on? Oh, there wasn’t one that could be given because the “prophet” couldn’t predict it… That “concept” flew many miles over your head.

    Kaching! ROTFL and TAGPOE!!!!

  • I’m not here to win you over but rather to expose your anti-Christian bigotry. Did that go over your head as usual?

  • Sandi’s all-powerful god needs a servant to guard his deposits. Too funny!

Sandi, the bulk of your posts are “babble”, at best.

    Major ROTFLs. And, TAGPOE!!!!!!!

  • glad to see my comments have influenced you enough Henry that you need to follow them. Do they convict you?

  • No, you are the one claiming “They need good spankings….”. Why is that? What are you really thinking when you say that?

  • No, actually it was created to defend against bigotry and injustice from those of your ilk.

It’s not your (non-existent) god that we worry about. It’s you and your cult co-members.

  • Bob, your laughing like that at a major set of scientific discoveries doesn’t make them go away, and makes you and your beliefs look even more foolish.

You get a giant TAGPOE!!! there.

  • No, I have eaten from the tree of knowledge, and cherish the flavor. You however, are still God’s ignorant sheep, waiting for a nonexistent savior to return.

  • Really are you that desperate to pat yourself on the back that you just make silly accusations up out of thin air. Where did I say fossils didn’t exist? But I am still laughing at your desperation to look intelligent. LOL.

  • Re “convict”, funny how our jails are loaded with Christians beyond their % of general population.

Fail whale to you for that one Sandi. And a major…wait for it…

    …TAGPOE.

    ROTFL!

  • That coming from you is supposed to be a insult right? But then again if it wasn’t for your narcissism you’d have no character at all..

  • So, they cannot be spanked but they can be abused physically? Is that what you are saying? Where are your priorities?

  • lol lol
c’mon……that one is so old Damien……surely you can come up with something better than that. Christ addressed that one in the Bible.
Liberals haven’t come up with something new in 2000 years?

  • Uh, lady, what the hell are you talking now? You were complaining about NAMBLA a second ago (a favorite red herring of weirdos everywhere) and I told you to get off the couch and do something if you’re so bothered. Now you’re accusing me of “physically abusing” someone?

This might be time for you to fall back on another Bible verse. I won’t listen, but it doesn’t seem like speaking your own mind is your specialty.

  • No. I was accusing you of not being sincere in helping children if you aren’t fighting NAMBLA.

  • 1: there is no such thing as last days.

2: there is no such thing as Sin, so there cannot possibly be sinful ways.

3: people have been scoffing at religions, especially Christianity, for a very very long time. Pretty much since the whole thing got started. The only difference between then and now is that now you are no longer allowed to persecute and murder people who disagree with you.

You would think that 1500 years of not being able to back up your claims and people proving you wrong would have put a damper on your ego. Hello, there were Greek philosophers who conclusively disproved the possibility of the abrahamic god long before any of the events described in the New Testament are said to have happened.

  • No, Bob. Again and again you miss the point. We are presenting you with what your own holy book says your god did and instructs you to do. The reasoning fails are entirely your own here.

  • Mark, time to find someone else to argue with. I’ve already made it clear that you are a fraud.

  • Again, Bob is unable to state his claimed tenet.

Enough dodging, Bob. State your claimed tenet here. Links to religious shill sites like you just tried to get away with don’t cut it.

  • As others have noted, that is such a general and unsubstantial “prophecy” as to be completely worthless. No dates, and no specifics -so typical.

Your “omniscient” sky fairy is plainly not truly omniscient, nor even existent.

  • Bob, I don’t think you actually understand what circular thinking is. You simply do it, and use it to support your own delusion.

Present the evidence for your beliefs without reference to the bible.

  • If you’re a sincere Christian why aren’t you out fighting ISIS?

I’ll second my call for you to fall back on scripture again, btw. Just saying…

  • Bob, no, it is you who has repeatedly missed the point, and the irony, repeatedly in the recent discourse.

  • No I get the point you give atheist a free pass on their atrocities that did happen historically and then turn around and accuse a God you say doesn’t exist on atrocities you claim he did that by your own claims never existed. Sounds like a exercise in futility on your part with a lot of crazy in there. .

  • You’ve done no such thing in regard to Michael Giffin, Sandi. It is plainly your own doctrine here that is fraudulent or false.

  • Brilliant response, Spuddie. Also see my post above re Sandi’s sky god lacking its own website.

  • Then it should be quite easy to back up your mouth to prove God doesn’t exist because now that burden of proof is all on you a your big mouth.

  • Easy to prove that one false, as usual for your posts Bob: I think Henry’s posts, and particularly his very appropriate Sandi mimicry, to be pretty funny.

  • Here’s the typical atheist circular thinking, something you’re guilty of …….you claim God doesn’t exist then you accuse that none existent God of dong things. Rational people know better than argue over that insanity.

  • The difference I never accuse your created god of anything but you addlepates accuse a God you say doesn’t exist of killing people. How insane is that?

Now could you point out the injustices you continue to accuse God and or Christians of? Because you totally avoided pointing them out every time you’re asked?

  • They’re not portraying themselves as followers of Satan. People are simply jumping to that conclusion. Some, (like you Sandi) are even flatly refusing to listen to their explanation how they are *not* followers of satan.

But then again that shouldn’t be surprising, considering the ubiquitousness of Christians acting nothing like Jesus. When Satan himself came to Jesus in the desert, Jesus didn’t attack Satan or dismiss his words out of hand. He listened to what Satan had to say and quietly debated with him, separating the truth from the falsehoods.

  • So, you are then suggesting that being hit is worse than sexually abused with your lack of interest. How loving of you! Kind of takes away for your concern for children – showing it to be a compete lie – typical satan.

  • And the entity they have named themselves after was too stupid to realize when he offered Christ all that He saw, He already owned it. He created it.
They have named themselves after a loser.
Matthew 4:9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”

  • I’m not suggesting anything, I’m asking why you aren’t out fighting ISIS.

Through your inaction, can we assume that it’s worse for Satanists to put up billboards than for terrorists to behead people–some of them children, we may note–for believing in Jesus? Your previous attempts at an argument suggest so. Kind of takes away your concern.

So it seems you’re the one deceived–or deceiving? Could go either way. Or maybe it just seems like your argument is a silly red herring and that once someone challenged your theological attacks and ad hominems you had to scramble to change the subject. Take your pick.

  • You and the libbies call it “assault.” When I was growing up, it was simply “corporal punishment”, and the specific (and legal) policy details were fully explained to parents. School corporal punishment is still legal in 19 states.

Nobody was hospitalized AFAIK, in the schools I attended. (But I do support policies that allow for lawsuits in excessive-force or mistaken-kid cases.)

Meanwhile, school bullying incidents were lower (in my school district) because the schools at that time had a true corrective that the bullies honestly wanted to avoid. But now the bullies even sass teachers and admins.

Findlaw Website says, “In all but a few states the practice of corporal punishment is outlawed and schools must now determine ways to account for student misbehavior — especially in light of a growing number of on-campus crimes by students.” Go figure.

  • The Christian-dominated NRA and the lack of gun control are the main reason for the increase in homicides in the US, Bob. See Australia’s recent experience in that regard.

  • The only tenet of atheism is “There is no God.” Everything else is just trying to shift the burden of proof to the theists, because you’re already outta gas.

  • Bob, Thank you for finally acknowledging my point, that unlike in your horrid Christian doctrine, there is no tenet of atheism that demands or instructs killing.

I suggest that you retract and apologize for your latest closing insult. You continue to reflect badly on your cult.

  • Bob, thank you for finally acknowledging my point, that unlike in your horrid Christian doctrine, there is no tenet of atheism that demands or instructs killing.

  • No, Bob. Again, we are presenting you with what your own holy book says your god did and instructs you to do. The reasoning fails are entirely your own here.

And the irony from you continues, in regard to your accusations re “crazy”.

  • No, Bob. What I’m claiming is that your bible documents your god doing those things. The circular reasoning is your own, as usual.

Now, I’ll ask again, state what proof you have of your beliefs that is not in the bible.

  • Okay then, I’ll tell ya. You backslid on what you were given (and it was a lot that you were given). You stopped believing the Bible you were reading.

I do not know your personal history, so I can’t say on which tracks the great train wreck occurred, but it was at least a 100-car pileup, with your tank cars exploding in fire and fumes. Yes you know what the Bible says, but you completely lost your hold on it, and worse, you stubbornly refuse to allow it to hold onto you.

With all due respect (for you certainly have an amazing, God-given intellectual gift if you can memorize NT Greek, why did you stop?), you are in radioactive trouble. And I bet this explanation will tick you off just for me saying it to you.
But it’s the truth. And it’s not too late to change course.

  • First show us a YouTube of all YOUR successful hospital-attested brain surgeries (heh heh heh), and THEN you can credibly critique Carson’s thinking abilities.

  • Agreed on the welcome. I ordered too many bottles of Holy Oil again, and I need to score some extra exorcisms around here, so I can bring the inventory back to normal. Thanks Satan supporters!

  • NAMBLA is dead, I killed them with my own hands 20 minutes ago, the world is safe again. You’re welcome.

  • Well if you have nothing of intelligence to add the ball is in your park. I’ll wait until you can stop making childish comments.

  • I didn’t ask for you opinion because your opinion is meaningless to me, I asked for proof and your opinion isn’t proof. Now let me make it simple and down to your level do you have scientific proof God don’t exist and to educate you before you go off on another foolish rant…..I never claimed God don’t exist nor did I ever claim I could prove He exists but you claim God doesn’t exist so again I’ll remind you the burden of proof is on you.

  • I took care of NAMBLA, the problem is solved, that’s your answer. ISIS is still around but we know you don’t care about them, so that’s that too. Everything is wrapped up in a neat little package.

  • Your question was why I don’t do anything about NAMBLA. It’s a stupid question from a stupid person, but then I took care of it and now you have your stupid answer.

You won’t answer my counter question, but that’s okay, we know the answer already even without you. Everything’s taken care of. You can go back to your Bible.

  • You’ve been answered five times. If you missed the previous replies, you can go back and read them, they’re still there. If you’re incapable of reading them, then I’d suggest you don’t know what’s been answered, nor even what you’ve asked.

  • No. You’ve answered nothing – leaving me to assume that you are pro abuse of children. So, why go the route you have, rather than working on sexual abuse, something that scars children immeasurably. Kind of takes your seriousness away. So, how do you expect to be treated seriously? (edit) your comments refute any credibility you may have had

  • Yeah according to atheist logic those darn guns go off on all their own and murder people. BTW Chicago has the most restrictive gun laws in the USA and more murders happen there because criminal could care less about your foolish gun controls. Another fact is crime is the highest in democrat controlled cities and states and yes they all cry the same tune you do. And yes only criminals have guns in Australia so that also make your point moot.

More gun facts to educate those that fail to blame criminals but rather other people.

    https://crimeresearch.org/2013/12/murder-and-homicide-rates-before-and-after-gun-bans/

And the one thing that makes those socialist like you angry

    2nd Amendment
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free
state(, )the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be
    infringed.

Take note of the comma starts another complete thought. I even put parentheses around it so you can comprehend your opinion has no effect on the law.

    pa·ren·the·sis
    pəˈrenTHəsəs/
    noun
    plural noun: parentheses
    a
word, clause, or sentence inserted as an explanation or afterthought
into a passage that is grammatically complete without it, in writing
usually marked off by curved brackets, dashes, or commas.
a pair of round brackets ( ) used to mark off a parenthetical word or phrase.
    an interlude or interval.

  • How do you expect to be treated seriously when you’re not out fighting ISIS? I’m not going to take policy or parenting advice from someone who supports radical Islamic terror, I’ll tell you that. You terrorist lovers don’t get to tell us how to raise kids.

  • So then you admit regardless of your Bwahahahah tenets atheists still murder other people. Yes I agree it’s horrid as you put it but evil men come from all walks of life regardless of their Bwahahahaha silly tenets

  • That won’t help your lack of credibility hon – particularly when someone being hit with a ruler is worse to you, than a child being sexually abused.

  • Please post where in the bible God instructs Christians to murder anybody? We both know you’re a bold faced liar saying that but please go for it because I can’t stop laughing at you making such stupid unfounded comments. I’m going to copy your asinine comment below in case you attempt to change it

No, Bob. Again, we are presenting you with what your own holy book
says your god did and instructs you to do. The reasoning fails are
    entirely your own here.

And the irony from you continues, in regard to your accusations re “crazy”.

  • Just a thought I never accused your teapot of anything but you accuse a God of doing things when to say He doesn’t exist?

  • Thank you for saying “let the Bible hold on to you” I really needed that in other words let Jesus hold on to me and I realize I need to hold on tight to Him.

  • An confessed ISIS sympathizer like you doesn’t get to judge my credibility. We don’t need terrorists telling us how to raise kids.

  • You put it up for judgment yourself hon. Your immaturity and lack of appreciation of the seriousness of which you were making fun , showed exactly what a farce this is, and an attempt for attention with no actual respect for children – or yourself for that matter.

  • Sorry, I don’t negotiate with terrorists. I’m probably going to end up on some watchlist for even communicating with you.

  • Can’t talk, the FBI are here. I’m giving up all the dirt on you to avoid being prosecuted as an accessory. Don’t run, you’ll just make it harder on yourself. Allahu Ackbar, comrade.

  • Just a few from Genesis for you, Bob, to prove you wrong as usual

“I will destroy … both man and beast.”

God is angry. He decides to destroy all humans, beasts, creeping things, fowls, and “all
flesh wherein there is breath of life.” He plans to drown them all.
    6:7, 17

“Every living substance that I have made will I destroy.”

God repeats his intention to kill “every living substance … from off the face of the earth.”
But why does God kill all the innocent animals? What had they done to deserve his wrath? It
seems God never gets his fill of tormenting animals. 7:4

“All flesh died that moved upon the earth.”

God drowns everything that breathes air. From newborn babies to koala bears — all
creatures great and small, the Lord God drowned them all. 7:21-23

God sends a plague on the Pharaoh and his household because the Pharaoh believed
    Abram’s lie. 12:17

God tells Abram to kill some animals for him. The needless slaughter makes God feel
    better. 15:9-10

Hagar conceives, making Sarai jealous. Abram tells Sarai to do to Hagar whatever she
wants. “And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled.” 16:6

“I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.”

I guess God couldn’t find even ten good Sodomites because he decides to kill them all in Genesis 19.

Too bad Abraham didn’t ask God about the children. Why not save
them? If Abraham could find 10 good children, toddlers, infants, or
    babies, would
God spare the city? Apparently not. God doesn’t give a damn about
    children. 18:32

and so on, from your horrid sky fairy.

  • What you do in your spare time is none of my business. As long as everyone is a consenting adult and nobody gets hurt. 🙂

  • Your resort to insults is notable, Bob.

Now, how about you explain for us what you think “circular reasoning is. You clearly still don’t get it.

    LOL.

  • LOL. I just did, in my post above yours. Read it again.

Your lack of reading comprehension is remarkable.

  • So short answer, “yes and it made you what you are today”.

It’s assault of students by teachers and fully supported by Fundamentalist Christians. It’s a disgusting, pointless practice which normalized physical abuse by authority figures. I am not surprised you support such things.

It’s not an either or thing. Corporal punishment and bullying are bad. What difference does it make between teachers and students assaulting students with impunity?

  • It would have been hilarious if someone started a joke disqus account as “God Almighty” and responded.

  • I bet you just love a good spanking. But what consenting adults do, and what you clearly do as a commercial transaction, has no place in public schools.

  • “Why did God give the 10 Commandments to His creation?”

To give self righteous Christian trolls a sense of importance and feed their narcissism. An entire buffet of word salad amounting to a “Secret Decoder Ring” fallacy. How dull.

  • Bob, everyone knows more about Christianity than you.

As the defender of the Christian faith, you are doing a terrible job of it. Making them look like child abusers, liars, trolls or ignoramuses.

If you feel bullied by everyone pointing out how dishonest and ignorant you are being, so be it. You are just being a snowflake

  • Good grief. Religion favors assaulting little children. School district legalizes child abuse. This just shows once again how stupid religion is, and how it corrupts both cognition and ethics. The very idea of faith is obscene, because faith perverts reality itself. Yes proponents of faith are perverts who are willing to perform any act, no mater how heinous, for the sake of faith. including beating children. Religion is well beyond dangerous and scary: it is downright dangerous to children for Christ’s sake.

  • First it’s not a threat it’s a choice just like atheism is a choice. So the only one to blame are those that make poor choices and God will abide by whatever your choice is.

  • And I agree you believe God doesn’t exist so it is impossible to accuse a God you say doesn’t exist of doing anything you claim he did. You see I’m on your side and what you believe therefore you’re arguing in circles. BTW history is factual evidence that those that believe as you do murdered millions of people because they believed there is no God.

  • Oh I as a matter of fact appreciate your unwitting irony because I never laughed so hard at somebody that gives such uneducated arguments atheists do.

  • So in your Bwahahahah silly logic you don’t see the irony that you atheists claim God doesn’t exist then turn around and blame Him for every bad thing under the sun……nor that is blatant in your face irony

  • Yeah I get it it’s just that I’m laughing so hard at you it’s difficult to comprehend just how ridiculous you sound but are completely clueless that you are so blinded by your anti-Christian bigotry you just continue to repeat inane circular reasoning.

  • Let me break it down to your 6th grade level.

1.) you say God doesn’t exist

2.) You blame God for everything bad under the sun

    Thus circular insane atheistic reasoning.

  • You should have been a comodian. P.S. comodian is not a misspelling…..

Just to bring you up to date Christ was murdered by unbelievers.

  • Re: “Okay then, I’ll tell ya.”

Thank you for speaking up for Mr Shoemaker — who obviously remains too cowardly to support the assertion he made.

Re: “You backslid on what you were given (and it was a lot that you were given).”

I suppose one could say that, but one might also say I realized that I’d been swindled, had believed a lie and realized it was false.

It’s all in how one looks at it, no? Can you offer any proof that your version of this is more accurate than mine?

Re: “You stopped believing the Bible you were reading.”

In the words of Sarah Palin, “You betcha!”

Re: “I do not know your personal history, so I can’t say on which tracks the great train wreck occurred, but it was at least a 100-car pileup, with your tank cars exploding in fire and fumes.”

That’s a remarkably Hollywood-blockbusterish picture. Do you have any evidence to support this dramatic a metaphor?

Re: “Yes you know what the Bible says, but you completely lost your hold on it, and worse, you stubbornly refuse to allow it to hold onto you.”

Why would I want a book (or collection of them) “hold onto” me?

Re: “With all due respect … you are in radioactive trouble.”

More of that Hollywood-blockbusterish condemnation. Yawn.

Re: “… (for you certainly have an amazing, God-given intellectual gift if you can memorize NT Greek, why did you stop?) …”

Hmm. I think the apostle Paul said it best:

οτε ημην νηπιος ελαλουν ως νηπιος εφρονουν ως νηπιος ελογιζομην ως νηπιος οτε γεγονα ανηρ κατηργηκα τα του νηπιου (1 Cor 13:11)

Re: “And I bet this explanation will tick you off just for me saying it to you.”

Why would it “tick me off”? Having already been a fundagelical myself, I’m well aware this is the sort of thing your type would say to someone of my type (i.e. an apostate). Why on earth would you ever assume this would “tick me off”?

    Re: “But it’s the truth.”

    I know you think that.

Re: “And it’s not too late to change course.”

No, it’s not. Your deity, I suppose, could — assuming s/he/it exists — present him/her/itself to me and order me to believe what you believe. Yeah, it might happen. I’m not assuming it will, nor should you … but it might. That’s about the only thing that could force me to “change course.”

  • We don’t really have a “left-wing” in the United States of any consequence at all. This is through a systematic destruction of it (Palmer Raids,J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI, etc.) as well as the systematic building up of the right-wing by Lemuel Boulware and so forth. You could read Susie Bright’s “Big Sex, Little Death” for the part about her time as teenage runaway in a communist cult which was trying to infiltrate the Teamsters. I remember she said one of the communists said when they were having some Teamsters and their families for dinner that they had to use garlic powder in the spaghetti sauce because working class people do not use fresh garlic. That’s about all I know. You should read it anyway.

  • Oh I see you live by double standards. What you say through insults is acceptable but when it’s reflects back at you it’s unacceptable. Again no surprise there eh? BTW I meant predator nor predictor.

  • He showed fairly convincingly that actually, Bob, knowledge is the thing he really does have here. Why can’t you acknowledge that?

  • There was nothing vaguely honest about your misdirection and failure to engage with the poster Bob. He showed his knowledge – repeatedly. You chose to ignore that and post the usual Christian bile.

Re-read the thread and imagine how someone coming objectively to this would view his detailed and knowledge filled posts next to your posts of ignorance, avoidance and naked prejudice.

  • Gods not a murdered Sandi – he can’t be as he doesn’t exist. It’s the horrible followers who tick that box…

  • Only to another atheist. Faith = Trust and I have no faith in atheism. As to why I can’t acknowledge PsiCops rant is simply I asked them a simple question to start a dialog with them and all they did was bloviate. They claimed to know all about Christianity and I challenged that claim. Atheists are control freaks and you feed that kind of mentality.

  • You are correct. But if you will ALWAYS remember JESUS in every thought, every act, and every moment, Satan will have NO power over you and you will rejoice constantly!

  • You repeating PsiCops lie isn’t helping atheism whatsoever. PsiCop made a claim and I challenged him beyond his comprehension.

  • Thank you for confirming that fact of atheism. I’m going to save your post for other atheists.

    Jimmyboy99
God didn’t give anyone anything Bob as she doesn’t exist..

So if God doesn’t exist why do you atheists claim He did all kinds of bad things?

  • “too stupid”? Just who do you think you are? Disagreeing with someone does not give you the right to insult them. You’ll win few people to your views that way.

  • I’ve deliberately not read PsiCop’s answer yet. As I’m another recovering ex-Christian, I know exactly whereof he writes. I too stopped believing the Bible I was reading. I realised that the supernatural basis it claimed for itself was obvious nonsense. I had no choice: there is not a shred of supporting evidence. Why should I believe the bible and not another faith-based doctrine? Floyd, why are you not a Scientologist, Mormon, Muslim or Hindu? Their claims are equal to your bible’
