Hoffman, current chief political correspondent and analyst for Jerusalem Post, to further enhance HonestReporting’s media accuracy and educational activities
JERUSALEM, Israel — HonestReporting.com, the US and Israel-based nonprofit dedicated to helping ensure truth and fairness in the media as it relates to Israel, has appointed Gil Hoffman as its new Executive Director in its Jerusalem office.
Mr. Hoffman, who until now was the Chief Political Correspondent and Analyst of the Jerusalem Post, will lead the development and management of HonestReporting’s programming, media corrective services and other aspects of editorial and content creation. He will also be engaged in educational speaking, with a particular focus on younger communities.
Mr. Hoffman was born and educated in the U.S., graduating magna cum laude from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. He brings to HonestReporting nearly 25 years of experience, as the leading English language political journalist in Israel. He appears regularly as an Israel affairs expert in print and on TV and radio worldwide, including on CNN, BBC, and various Arab media platforms.
The Chairman of HonestReporting’s U.S. board of directors, Robert Blum, commented: “We feel very fortunate to be able to appoint Gil as our Executive Director. He is well respected by the foreign press corps in Israel and abroad, with a wealth of journalism and political relationships worldwide. It is difficult to think of a better person to lead our efforts.”
Mr. Hoffman stated that he was especially excited about the opportunity to reach out to young people in America, Jewish and non-Jews, to help them learn why being progressive should mean being pro-Israel, too.
“Strong democracies rely upon a sound press, and I believe my experience will help HonestReporting assist journalists, as well as help people to better understand how to critically read the news as it relates to Israel,” Hoffman said. “HonestReporting provides me with the perfect platform from which to pursue these goals and help Israel win the fight in the international media.”
Daniel Pomerantz, who is departing HonestReporting as its CEO, will pursue new opportunities in the areas of public speaking and social media, advocating on topics related to Israel and antisemitism. “I wish HonestReporting the very best as it continues to work within its important and specialized mission,” said Mr. Pomerantz. Mr. Blum commented, “We are very thankful to Daniel for his contribution as CEO. We wish him the greatest success in his future activities to improve the prospects for Israel and the Jewish people.”
Gil Hoffman will officially assume his position as HonestReporting’s Executive Director on July 1, 2022.
